plemax: William is simply a very crude person. There are countless pedagogues who have much higher standards than William and they are not crude and obnoxious people at all. Yes, there are some who scream and yell all the time but they are (believe me) in the minority. Conductors who scream and yell and throw tantrums are a thing of the past - violin teachers who teach through fear and intimidation are also a thing of the past. However, William's behavior outside the classroom is what people tell me is abhorrent. I was not referring to his being nice in the classroom. Not at all. If you know any of his colleagues who would disagree, let me know.
Interesting, never had the opportunity to meet him but I studied chamber music under his father who was one of the nicest people.
