ホウキング -農業をもっと楽しくする- Interplant Weeding Broom "Hawking"

2017/09/16 に公開「ホウキング」へようこそ
　　有機農業を始めて以来約４０年間、私は畑の作物の株間の草を手や三角鍬で黙々と取ってきました。
　作物の生えていない条間の機械除草は比較的容易ですが、作物と雑草が隣接して生えている株間を機械で作物を痛めずに連続的に除草して行く事は難しいと思い込んでいました。
　世界中の多くの農民がそう思い、そうしているのではないでしょうか。
　　ところが２０１６年２月、１０年に及ぶ試行錯誤の末に偶然辿り着いた新アイデア松葉ほうき利用の揺動式除草犂により作物は傷めずに連続的に速く株間除草ができました。
　思い込みが一瞬で氷解しました。
　　私はこの愉快な技術を「ホウキング」と名付けました。
　ホウキングは世界中の家族農業が容易に実践できる面白い「適正技術」であると同時に株間除草の「基本原理」であり、機械化を含め広範な応用が可能です。
　私はホウキングで農業が面白くなりました。
　ホウキングにおいて最も重要な事は実践、自分で試し、自分で観察する事です。全てはそこから始まります。

Welcome to “Hawking”

For 40 years since I began to practice organic farming, I was spending a lot of time in the fields silently weeding between plants with my hands or with a triangular hoe.
It’s quite easy to weed between the rows of crops with a machine, but I had convinced myself that it was practically impossible to use a machine to weed continuously between the crop plants in a row, where the crop and the weeds are growing close together, without damaging the crop.
Farmers the world over probably think the same way and are doing their weeding in the same way I did.
In February 2016, however, after ten years of trial and error, quite by chance, I stumbled upon the idea of using a rake with thin, spring steel wires (called a matsuba hawki in Japanese) to produce a vibrating weeding broom (VWB) that can quickly and continuously carry out interplant weeding without damaging the crop plants.
In a flash, my preconceived notions about interplant weeding all melted away.
I named this fun technology “hawking”.
As well as being an interesting “appropriate technology” that can easily be practiced by family farmers anywhere in the world, it is a “basic principle” of interplant weeding and can be widely applied, including by making a mechanized version.
For me, farming has become much more interesting with hawking.

実際やってみました。雑草が多いと絡まった雑草が肥大して野菜の芽もどんどんぬけてしまったり冠水で土が固くなっていると上手くいかなかったりタイミングが難しいと感じました。
