It just just kills me that Terry Brown (Broon) detested “Broon’s Bane.” It was the original pre-intro to The Trees and he bellyached to axe it from Hemispheres, as I understand it. He disliked it so much that Alex named it for that. It’s such a beautiful piece. I know a couple of professional classical guitarists who have it in their repertoire and perform it.
...wow I never New that...boy that must have caused some serious tension between Alex and Terry. If I was Alex I would have stuck to my guns to have it on Hemispheres. It’s a wonder then that Terry Brown allowed it to be performed on E.S.L...Thanks for the info ✌️
Great job, beautiful. Alex is such a criminally underrated guitarist in my opinion. Don't know how he's not up towards the top of every list of the top guitarists.
This is exceedingly pleasant to listen, so a big thank from a long time Rush fan. Lovely to hear the guitar without everything else that happens in Rush songs.
I wish Lifeson and Lee get together and arrange their pieces for the classical guitar. It would be a dream. Their music is just well suited for that. Lifeson and Lee, if you are listening, make it a music project: Rush for the Classical Guitar.
I love that you are doing this in appreciation of the guitar style that is Alexander Živojinović. He is a living classical master of the instrument. There should be college courses teaching Alex. I love him. I always have. September, 1978. I drop the needle on my newly purchased copy of All the world's a stage. Bastille day. Great song. Song number 2 - Anthem. Alex plays the guitar solo. My life changed right in that moment. I became a lifelong fan of Alex and RUSH.
I also have shockingly vivid memories of the day - the moment - I got turned on to RUSH...immediately became a drooling fan-boi, and 40+ years later, still consider them to be in a class by themselves.
My first exposure was their Distant Early Warning video on MTV but I didn’t appreciate it back then as I do now. Too young I guess. A few years later I picked up the Fly By Night album and heard the opening of Anthem and life has never been the same since.

Alex is a genius. Clearly the man has a vision that runs deep and he can shred like nobody's business too. Rush will always be my personal favorite band.
Nobody loves Alex more than me. I've seen rush 105 times live including the last two shows and I've had his name on my license plate in THREE different states (and him holding one in a photo with me!!) but the fact of the matter is he is a very sloppy shredder and he knows it too.
@@MAXIMUSMINIMALIST Nobody's perfect and there are more important guitar skills than shredding but I do agree it is not his best trait. There are many superb shredders but only one Lerxst and he sure is loved. Peace✌
Just amazing to see and hear. Some of my favorite music. Yes I was singing to the trees at the end. A Farewell to kings was incredible to see live I was there. Well done!
Your music does tribute to Neil, I hope he is up there smiling down on you. One time I played the offering at church and it was me playing classical guitar and I included the riff from The Trees with Broon’s Bane. Your version is the way I imagined it sounding even though I was slapping them strings on way more bad notes than yours. Bravo, you are my brother! I found that when I get nervous playing classical guitar in certain settings, my right hand sorta becomes literal concrete and instead of using a relaxed dexterity, I end up playing something that sounds like slap bass

Well played. There were many instances of acoustic guitar in Rush's music. One notable one would be the intro (where much of his acoustic parts fall in songs) to La Villa Stangiato.
Love this, thanks for sharing your brilliant playing! You've highlighted Alex's god tier status as not only an exceptional player, but, his exceptional compositional abilities.
Almost the same order I used to play them in on my 12-string in the park back in the day. Sure sounds better on the nylon string though. Beautifully played too.😊 Alex along with Jimmy Page, were both (unknowingly) my first guitar teachers. 🥰
Great! Have another look at the chord in Broon's Bane at about 3.43-ish..... the one with the C root note. In that same root position, try C Minor 7 add 6, then just C Minor 7.
i don't know why people keep saying this, just because he doesn't place higher in some irrelevant rolling stone list, or similar. The likes of Dream Theater often include rush covers in their live shows. Other guitarists speak highly of Alex, so no, he's not underrated.
