The 18th Musician
США

I am primarily a classical guitarist who also likes to compose. My name is an homage to my favorite composer Steve Reich and his masterpiece Music for 18 Musicians.
Natural Science (Rush) for Classical Guitar Trio by The 18th Musician
A classic by #rush from their Permanent Waves album. I think the #classicalguitar arrangement works best for the third part of the song which starts at the 4:55 mark. Thanks to the holy triumvirate of Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart (RIP)!

A quirky short song alternating between 7/4 and 4/4. #progressiverock
The Trees by Rush for Classical Guitar Trio
Просмотров 1,7 тыс.Год назад
One of my favorite tracks by my favorite band. From their 1978 album Hemispheres. Playing these Rush songs as a classical guitar trio makes me appreciate them even more. Thank you Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart (RIP).
Love Buzz (Nirvana) for String Quartet by The 18th Musician

This song by Nirvana from their debut album Bleach was a perfect candidate to arrange for string quartet. I used the great Cremona Quartet library from Native Instruments.
Bell Box Minimalism by The 18th Musician

Short minimalist build-up piece attempting to showcase the following fantastic cowbell and music box virtual instruments: -Cowbells Complete (maxx-mcgee.com/instruments/cowbellscomplete) -Musicbx33 (cobeyrokes.progbox.co.uk/vsts) This is harmonically static, really just focused on texture with these VIs.
The Gate of Finis (Octopath Traveler) for Classical Guitar Quartet by The 18th Musician

I've never played this game, but discovered this piece by chance when I saw Animalisa Keys' fantastic piano version (ruclips.net/video/o_Ej9u4PN6E/видео.html). I couldn't get the ostinato out of my head so I decided to arrange it for a classical guitar quartet. Music by Yasunori Nishiki. #octopathtraveler #vgm #classicalguitar

Probably the last Brouwer etude I will record for a while. I love playing these. #brouwer #classicalguitar

Another Brouwer etude. I prefer playing this a little slower than others. I recorded a handful at the same time last month so will be uploading another one soon. #classicalguitar #brouwer
Between The Wheels (Rush) for Classical Guitar Trio performed by The 18th Musician
Просмотров 4,1 тыс.Год назад
Between The Wheels from the album Grace Under Pressure is one my favorite #rush songs. I thought it would be fun to arrange it for three classical guitars. It is not perfectly identical to the original, but somewhat close. Let me know if you think it works and maybe I will do other Rush songs the same way. Thanks for listening.
Study No 1 (Frederic Hand) by The 18th Musician

Anyone who has studied from Frederick Noad's second Solo Guitar Playing book knows this short but charming piece in 5/8 by Frederic Hand. Never gets old playing it. #classicalguitar
Leo Brouwer Etude No. 6 (Estudios Sencillos) performed by The 18th Musician
Просмотров 393Год назад
Another #brouwer etude. It is simple yet powerful. I prefer playing it at this moderate speed, though many like to zip through it. I also like that one of my favorite guitarists, the late great Randy Rhoads, was influenced by this piece for the #ozzyosbourne song Diary of a Madman. The #classicalguitar is a Kenny Hill Signature Double-Top (Spruce/Cedar). [Please excuse the incorrect B that I am...
Alex Lifeson (Rush) Classical Guitar Compilation performed by The 18th Musician (louder version)
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
I wish Alex Lifeson and #Rush would have included more classical guitar in their #progressiverock recordings. Includes: 00:00 - intro to A Farewell To Kings 01:11 - intro to Cygnus X-1, Book II 03:08 - Broon's Bane/intro to The Trees I know Cygnus is far from a classical guitar piece, but I like to think the intro was originally written on a #classicalguitar. Performed on a Zebulon Turrentine g...

My first song with lyrics in a long time. Vocal performance by Ethan C. The original goal was an '80's-style anthem but not sure where this ended up! Thanks for listening.

Dude, please tell me Jack Black has seen this.
Maybe he has, and he is speechless
Absolutely Epic dude!
Thanks! One of my favorite movies.
Great job, beautiful. Alex is such a criminally underrated guitarist in my opinion. Don't know how he's not up towards the top of every list of the top guitarists.
Thanks and I definitely agree about Alex!
No no no start again
WOW!
Thanks! Can’t wait to get back at it and do another one.
Big RUSH fan here@@the18thmusician40
Very beautiful and creative! Yes, more Rush please. Do you have the sheet music or tab for this available? I’d love to try to learn your rendition!
Thanks! Hoping to do more videos soon. I don't have sheet music or tab for the three parts. I believe I made them using a combination of a tab online and listening to the song over and over. I also watched a live version. I then memorized each part to record.
No, I don't like this version, at all. Very sloppy. And yes, I've been able to play this piece since I was 16 (some 40 years ago) and I played it better THEN than you're doing NOW. But hey; you can't please all of the people, all of the time. Nice try though.
Thanks for commenting. Good to hear from someone who also likes to play this piece. I am definitely a sloppy player, but having fun playing it nonetheless. That’s good enough for me.
Alex the best in the galaxy
He sure is!
Beautiful
Thank you!
Wow! Amazing playing! ❤
Thanks a lot! I can't wait to get back to doing more of these.
とても気品のある演奏!ぼくは、これからあなたの演奏をお手本にして、この楽曲にチャレンジしたいと思っています!素晴らしい動画を投稿していただき、感謝します‼️
Thank you very much!
Unbelievable. This is the best reinterpretation of any Rush song I have ever heard.
Thanks! I hope to do more later this year.
Awesome! I look forward to seeing which one(s) you choose.
@@the18thmusician40 incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am begging you to do Available Light. I have been trying to learn the section, ''oh the wind can carry....."" i know its on deep E and A strings around the 2nd fret, but can not figure out
@@Augfordpdoggie I love that song. I will definitely do that one. I am finishing an album for release later this year and will then get back to some Rush covers.
Beautiful. Brings me lot's of memories, a friend played that one (Farewell) a lot when I was in high school.
Thanks! Rush was my life soundtrack back then. Still is!
I love to think about having a conversation with Mozart if you told him this piece was from 1978 and he could hear it performed like this.
Mozart would be air drumming in the front row of a Rush concert!
Fabulous. This is the song that introduced me to Steve Howe and I've been a fan for 50 years.
Thanks! One of his many masterpieces.
"This is the song that..." It's not a 'song' because there's no 'singing' in it. See how it works? 🤦♂ It's a piece, of music.... not a song. 🙄
From 'Tide Pools' to 'Hyperspace' to 'Permanent Waves'. Well done. 👏👏👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks!
Incredible
Thanks!
who makes that guitar?
Zebulon Turrentine
nicely done. Your playing of the solos certainly made me smile with joy. ❤
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
That was AMAZING !!! Very nice, a lot of work to work out all those parts and play so well, very inspiring ! ( although I think you should have tapped out the drum breaks on the body of the guitar ! )
Thanks! I admit I was tempted to play some percussion, but my guitar told me not to, haha.
Do you have the full 2112? :D
It’s on the wishlist so hopefully one day
Cool
So awesome ❤
Thanks 😄
Beautiful
Thank you!
This is great!!
Thanks!
Lovely arrangement
Love this…..would listen to this musician all day…..❤️🙏😊
Beautiful
Thanks!
Nicely done! I'm sure Alex would approve! 😊
Thanks! 😄
@@the18thmusician40 I look forward to hearing other pieces
I have some more Rush songs and other guitar pieces on my channel. More to come.
Wow! Beautiful cover.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful, as always; love hearing you play. And the Rush sweater is sweet, too.
Thanks! I think the world might need a Black Creek Rock xmas sweater!
Bravo!
Thanks!
👏👏👏👏👏
I have the same Cordoba Torres. I saw you mentioned on Delcamp that you used Savarez Carbon treble on it. How bright does it feel for you? (it's hard to tell just from recording) I am asking because I tried D'addario Carbon on mine and it immediately felt way too bright for me. Wonder if carbon trebles from other brands are the same.
There is something about those Savarez trebles that I like a lot. I use them on all my guitars right now. They are a little bright to some, but I liked them on the Torres (I recently sold it). I think the Savarez strings have a nice roundness and sustain though they do sometimes sound artificial after spending many years playing non-carbon Pro Arte strings. I have not played the carbons from D'Addario so can't compare to the Savarez strings.
Thia is the greatest thing I have seen since your last Lifeson video! Keep up the great work! Love it.
Thank you! Will do!
Great song, never thought I would hear it with nylon. Well done!
Thanks!
Nicely done, loved the arrangement. Do you have a the sheet or tab for this? Cheers!
Thanks! I don’t have the tab or sheet music, but you can get the tab fairly easily online of each of the songs.
Incredible job and amazing sweater!
Thanks!
Nice
Thanks!
Bad ash
Thanks!
What a fantastic arrangement and performance of this complex Rush track. Great job.
oh. and nice jumper
Thanks! I have always loved this song.
this is excellent, thank you!
Thanks!
Good stuff
Thanks!
Extremely good performance. To think this song is 40 years old now (was recorded between November 1983 and March 1984, I think)
Thanks! it has always been one of my favorites. I think that whole album is underrated
Perfect. Nailed it.
Thanks!
Well done , most excellent playing 👍
Many thanks!
Brilliant playing! Subscribed! Any appreciator of Alex is someone I appreciate.
Thanks! Will be doing more Rush soon.
Brron’s Bane is so good. All of it really. The Trees. Ok. Lifeson is so great
It is truly great music
Perfect! It passes the "Rush hardcore fan" test. Very beautiful arrangement. Good job!
Thanks! That is the test I was hoping to pass!
Beautiful. It sounds like a classical piece of music. Lovely. 🙏
Thank you very much!
Very nice thank you.
Thanks!
Very nice rendition.
Many thanks!
