I think ssj4 gogeta is somewhat mystical and otherworldly, especially considering the fusion technique, gotenks is able to create somewhat sentient life with the kamikaze ghost, and ssj4 gogeta can just spawn in party poppers.
The connection to the Other World is an interesting aspect, because the first time Gogeta appeared was in Hell. The Other World is supposed to be a mystical realm that is in a constant state of nirvana. So maybe there's some deeper connection to some chinese mythology that could shine more light upon this.
I wouldn't say that, I feel like it was more a kin to a super saiyan bule evolution. Still super saiyan bule but just to that next level entirely. It even has the same sparkles.

I like the idea that SSJ4 Gogeta was, in fact, a step above the rest. While SSJ God form wasn't a thing back during the days of GT, it may well be that Super took their inspiration from SSJ4 and ran with it. I always liked the interpretation that SSJ4 was not, in fact, a super saiyan form. It was the form of a Saiyan that has mastered itself; an ascended base form.

Ssj4 was one of the best things to come out of gt if not THE best. I'd argue that it's even among the best things that came out of the entire series. Not just because it's such an unfathomably overpowered form but because of the character design and how he had the actual best traits of both Vegeta and Goku. Vegito is much more like him than the regular gogeta because regular gogeta even in his blue form is super serious. This ssj4 gogeta is uniquely fun but still focused on the objective. This gogeta just has a much more likeable ratio of the two Saiyan's personalities and that always stuck with me.
Dbs Gogeta isn't super serious he let Broly reach his max before finishing him . Ssj4 is in fact the best transformation of the franchise overall no offense to anyone's personal favourite .

No, Full Power just has a red outer glow and also appeared in GT. You might be thinking of Limit Breaker, and though I'd agree that it makes sense because it gets red hair, SS4 Gogeta can also go Limit Breaker and it looks slightly different, with his fur going from scarlet-brown to hot magenta. Which is a shame because they could have just retconned Gogeta and handwaved his GT appearance as Super Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker. It would have made a lot more sense.

I've heard people say that the moment Trunks, Gohan, Goten, and Pan give their energy to Goku is very similar to the god ritual with just one less person, so when Vegeta fuses with Goku it acts like that fifth saiyan, which gives Gogeta godki.
I like to call GT gogeta a SSJ 4 grade 2, since to me it looks like just a stronger form of ssj 4. And just like how us fans were calling the different upgrades of ssj “grades”, it just makes more sense to use the same terminology for ssj 4. Using that logic you could even say ssj 4 limit breaker is actually ssj 4 grade 3

My Personal Canon: This is SSJ5, since just like how Goten and Trunks can’t go SSJ3 by themselves but have to fuse their powers in order to go into SSJ3, Goku and Vegeta with when they combined there powers allowed them to gain access to SSJ5, this could be an incomplete stage of SSJ5, or it is SSJ5. But then again, it’s probably just the full extent of the primal nature and power of SSJ4, which can just be called the perfected stage. Ssj4 gogeta was just in his full power state. When goku and vegeta fused, vegeta's super saiyan 4 was at full power mode, while ssj4 goku was in the last bit of his ultra full power ssj4 mode, making full power ssj4 gogeta
I rationalized it as an imperfect Super Saiyan God ritual (retroactively, of course). Basically it had the ingredients but two of the saiyans in the ritual fused so it wasn't quite right. He still got a big power boost.
Something about this theory I feel should have been mentioned is that since Fusion Reborn is canon to GT (Gogeta already existed, already named, Vegeta not needing to be taught the dance etc) and since Gogeta in that movie forms from 2 base form Saiyans fusing, and starts as a Super Saiyan, then it's possible that 2 Super Saiyan 4s fusing made a Super Saiyan 5 when factoring in that fusion allows Gotenks to become Super Saiyan 3 while Goten and Trunks individually cannot. Incidentally, Elder Kai knowing about Super Saiyan 4 makes me think that during the time between Z and GT, he visits the Time Nest and gets roped into working with the Time Patrol for a bit.

SSJ4 was originally a personalized form. Goku had Black hair and magenta fur, Vegeta had brown hair and red fur, and Gogeta had red hair and brown fur. They were all visually distinct in GT, which is why Gogeta had red hair. DB Heroes and all the other video game slop is the issue, because the people who designed SSJ4 Broly, Gohan, etc clearly didn’t get the memo and just made them all look like Goku
There have been a lot of theories about the power of Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta which in the hindsight terms I could definitely see case in point is the fan made version of Dragon Ball called DBAF. Plus it also introduced the power of Super Saiyan 5 not to mention in another fan-made Dragon Ball comic called New Age featured the older brother to Vegeta in the power of his version of super saiyan five against the ultra powerful Fusion of Gogeta at Super Saiyan 4
1+1=2. 2 has all the strength and potential of 1 & 1 ever had. When 2 does what 1 or 1 can do, it’s much more dramatic because 2 has double the strength and potential at base form (excluding all the fusion multipliers). 1+1 full power SSJ4’s, you get a very special SSJ4 2. Gogeta also looks a lot like Goku tbf so the red hair could’ve been a differentiator.

Bit of an unpopular opinion, but I think the DB series should rely a lot lot less on transformations and focus on learning new techniques and enemies that can overwhelm/dodge brute strength attacks, and instead need technique or smarts to defeat. That was the core of the OG DB, to the point where Goku learning the kamehameha was pretty much the greatest technique he learned there (afaik), he had to train under different masters and be taught different ways to overcome difficulties. Pretty awesome that they had Sensei Roshi claim as much in the manga of the ToP.

Just my own head cannon but imo its a ssj5. Hair color change doesnt happen by just mixing, it would be like with Gotenks where it is in part trunks and in part goten's hair color. The change to red to me always suggested an upgrade to the ssj type
This is my theory: Gogeta ssj4 is actually a different fusion, an assimilation like that of Piccolo and Nail where Goku reaches the Super sajan 4 limit Breaker or ssj5 stage, this is also demonstrated by the hair style, which is practically the same of Goku
Only problem with that theory is this is a normal fusion because ssj4 Gogeta split back into Goku and Vegeta after 15 mins instead of the usual 30 by how powerful ssj4 is and fusion clothes, when Piccolo fused with Nail he just absorbed his power and memories which is the complete opposite of what happened to Gogeta
Ultra Full Power did have a red glow around it instead of the yellow aura. SS4 Gogeta felt like being a limit breaker 4, but they gave that one a pink/red aura and more vibrant soft red hair colors instead of a deep orange/red qith a sparkly yellow aura.
My guess is that Super Saiyan 4 have different colors for different Saiyans, like how Vegeta having blue eyes and crimson fur compare to Goku having yellow hair and lighter red fur. When fused, it created a new being altogether that neither the fusee, so they have different looks for their Super Saiyan 4 form. It's not some evolution of Super Saiyan 4 since there's no statement even hinted that and the true evolution of the form is Limit Breaker (it's not SSGSS4 like some people think), which looks different.

Ikari form brings out the Great Ape power in base form and SS4 required a tail for Goku so maybe this would be an ascended form of that like Ikari State 2.

Gogeta = goku + vegeta It’s goku’s outline of his hair and body, looking at his bigger stature and so forth… And it’s vegeta’s colour scheme of brown and red - BUT REVERSED. Think about it, Vegeta had red fur and brown hair and goteta had brown fur and red hair. Granted, the colours dont completely align, but it’s still the same idea. What do you think about this?

The Metamoru fusion is no where near the boost as Pothala fusion that adds both powers then multiply them by them by 10 just as stated by Vados in ToP. So it's safe to assume that Gogeta SSj4 is still weaker than Goku SSj God from Battle of Gods. Vegito SSj4 would be a different story. The gap between SSj3 (and even SSj4) is massive in regards to to SSj God.

I'm gonna be honest, gt gogeta was the worst fusion in Dragon Ball. At least gotenks being a prankster makes sense, since they are the fusion of kids. But, gogeta wastng time playing around with Omega shenron when goku and vegeta were as serious as ever, was just a cheap way to extend the fight and give the final win to goku in the end. One of the many reasons, GT is so trash
GT as a whole was not trash but I definitely agree with your point of Gogeta unnecessarily being a way to stall time. Goku and Vegeta were as close to death as we have ever seen and all the tension of that was thrown away in a ridiculous fashion. This gogeta didnt behave like goku or vegeta but instead a plot device.
He toyed with omgega so the latter would use his minus energy ball attack. Gogeta then purified it and knocked it back canceling out the negative energy Omega was spreading throughout the universe. As soon as it was done, Gogeta went for the kill before the time ran out

Something about this theory I feel should have been mentioned is that since Fusion Reborn is canon to GT (Gogeta already existed, already named, Vegeta not needing to be taught the dance etc) and since Gogeta in that movie forms from 2 base form Saiyans fusing, and starts as a Super Saiyan, then it's possible that 2 Super Saiyan 4s fusing made a Super Saiyan 5 when factoring in that fusion allows Gotenks to become Super Saiyan 3 while Goten and Trunks individually cannot.
Incidentally, Elder Kai knowing about Super Saiyan 4 makes me think that during the time between Z and GT, he visits the Time Nest and gets roped into working with the Time Patrol for a bit.

SSJ4 was originally a personalized form. Goku had Black hair and magenta fur, Vegeta had brown hair and red fur, and Gogeta had red hair and brown fur. They were all visually distinct in GT, which is why Gogeta had red hair. DB Heroes and all the other video game slop is the issue, because the people who designed SSJ4 Broly, Gohan, etc clearly didn’t get the memo and just made them all look like Goku

I don't believe it's Ssj5, but rather the complete Super Saiyan 4, and in db heroes The Ssj4 Limit Breaker is shown, the name is quite suggestive .
There have been a lot of theories about the power of Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta which in the hindsight terms I could definitely see case in point is the fan made version of Dragon Ball called DBAF.
Plus it also introduced the power of Super Saiyan 5 not to mention in another fan-made Dragon Ball comic called New Age featured the older brother to Vegeta in the power of his version of super saiyan five against the ultra powerful Fusion of Gogeta at Super Saiyan 4
It's because the designers didn't want Ssj4 Gogeta to look plain so they gave him red hair to look more badass
1+1=2. 2 has all the strength and potential of 1 & 1 ever had. When 2 does what 1 or 1 can do, it’s much more dramatic because 2 has double the strength and potential at base form (excluding all the fusion multipliers). 1+1 full power SSJ4’s, you get a very special SSJ4 2. Gogeta also looks a lot like Goku tbf so the red hair could’ve been a differentiator.

Gogeta SS4 is at minimum SS5 or SS6, because they didn’t fuse in base form and then go SS4 (every other fusion has been done in base form then they power up), they fused already in SS4 so their combined power far exceeds SS4 level
Bit of an unpopular opinion, but I think the DB series should rely a lot lot less on transformations and focus on learning new techniques and enemies that can overwhelm/dodge brute strength attacks, and instead need technique or smarts to defeat. That was the core of the OG DB, to the point where Goku learning the kamehameha was pretty much the greatest technique he learned there (afaik), he had to train under different masters and be taught different ways to overcome difficulties. Pretty awesome that they had Sensei Roshi claim as much in the manga of the ToP.

Just my own head cannon but imo its a ssj5. Hair color change doesnt happen by just mixing, it would be like with Gotenks where it is in part trunks and in part goten's hair color. The change to red to me always suggested an upgrade to the ssj type
This is my theory: Gogeta ssj4 is actually a different fusion, an assimilation like that of Piccolo and Nail where Goku reaches the Super sajan 4 limit Breaker or ssj5 stage, this is also demonstrated by the hair style, which is practically the same of Goku
Only problem with that theory is this is a normal fusion because ssj4 Gogeta split back into Goku and Vegeta after 15 mins instead of the usual 30 by how powerful ssj4 is and fusion clothes, when Piccolo fused with Nail he just absorbed his power and memories which is the complete opposite of what happened to Gogeta

Ultra Full Power did have a red glow around it instead of the yellow aura.
SS4 Gogeta felt like being a limit breaker 4, but they gave that one a pink/red aura and more vibrant soft red hair colors instead of a deep orange/red qith a sparkly yellow aura.

My guess is that Super Saiyan 4 have different colors for different Saiyans, like how Vegeta having blue eyes and crimson fur compare to Goku having yellow hair and lighter red fur. When fused, it created a new being altogether that neither the fusee, so they have different looks for their Super Saiyan 4 form. It's not some evolution of Super Saiyan 4 since there's no statement even hinted that and the true evolution of the form is Limit Breaker (it's not SSGSS4 like some people think), which looks different.
GT Perfect Files state he is dozens of times stronger than a normal super saiyan 4 .

Ikari form brings out the Great Ape power in base form and SS4 required a tail for Goku so maybe this would be an ascended form of that like Ikari State 2.

Well... it was confirmed that its ssj4 in both gt and heroes. The ascended ssj4 is limit breaker which gogeta has already.
I love the fanon retcon that SS4 Gogeta is SSG, it's technically true because it matches the ritual requirements 4 pure hearted saiyans fueled Goku back up against Omega and Vegeta made it 5 in a way. All of this generally doesn't matter anymore because GT isn't canon, so why the fuck not have that be the explanation and make GT more interesting and fun.

SJ4 gogeta is the closest thing to son wukong. He literally makes clones of himself creats matter out of nothing. Itd an absolute troll. Overconfident and an asshole when fighting. It's just the same SSj4 but with a different hair color just to make him more imposing. I really DON'T buy Gogeta being SSj God or even SSj5. The Metamoru fusion is no where near the boost as Pothala fusion that adds both powers then multiply them by them by 10 just as stated by Vados in ToP. So it's safe to assume that Gogeta SSj4 is still weaker than Goku SSj God from Battle of Gods. Vegito SSj4 would be a different story. The gap between SSj3 (and even SSj4) is massive in regards to to SSj God.

Shame this is a bit more cooler transformation compare to the canon SSJB Toriyama must have been drunk and scrap this idea because probably it’s hard to animate this rather than a recolor version of the sad generic super saiyan turned into blue but it’s just the same and also the super generic looking UIGoku in his base form with white aura. talk about lazy work! can’t blame animation artists on this one though because ultimately the job will go to the editing and composition for the color scheme.

At least gotenks being a prankster makes sense, since they are the fusion of kids.
But, gogeta wastng time playing around with Omega shenron when goku and vegeta were as serious as ever, was just a cheap way to extend the fight and give the final win to goku in the end.

GT as a whole was not trash but I definitely agree with your point of Gogeta unnecessarily being a way to stall time. Goku and Vegeta were as close to death as we have ever seen and all the tension of that was thrown away in a ridiculous fashion. This gogeta didnt behave like goku or vegeta but instead a plot device.
He toyed with omgega so the latter would use his minus energy ball attack. Gogeta then purified it and knocked it back canceling out the negative energy Omega was spreading throughout the universe. As soon as it was done, Gogeta went for the kill before the time ran out
same situation as Vegito vs buu. Vegito played around to get absorbed to save his friends (could have killed buu with ease), Gogeta played around to goad shenron to doing the negative karma ball so he could purify it and purify earth. Immediately went for the kill right after lol
