Great video. Enjoyed that, very informative. Would love to see a comparison post-flagstaff

Many thanks for this video. Great that you are willing to share details like this with us athletics fans. Not too many world class runners would reveal so much about their fitness levels! I have memories of doing treadmill tests in the late 1970s which were regarded as state of the art back then but lok a bit primitive compared to what you and Zak underwent. Are you going to post videos from Flagstaff? Hope so!

Very interesting video. The skin fold test interesting that it is good that you have a little extra bodyweight as you dial down to race weight. Your channel and Stephen Scullions are the 2 best out there for the scientific info rather than just coverage of track sessions...

It's also nice to see the difference in training between the middle distance and long distance too

I did this test when I was 15. Ran a 3 minute mile. Completed running. Now I work at an Esso garage.

Is the 3min standard ramp test in the UK? Dont you need 6-7min intervals to reach kind of plateu, cause La cumulation after VT1 is faster so for 3min 2.6 could be 3.9 for 6min ...thx.

Probably won’t be…. Would be giving his competitors all of his metrics wouldnt it. Not something an elite athlete wants to be doing.

Guys I’m struggling. I work harder then so many people I race against yet I’m still always loosing. 50 mile weeks and I do long runs and speed workouts and recovery run days yet I get rolled by everyone only doing 20 mile weeks and they basically just woke up. I just don’t understand, I feel like I should be so much better then what I am right now but I’m just not.

They won't be doing what they say keep chipping and your time will come to beat the 20 mile a week men

It’s not about mileage and amount of hours you put in.
You should get the stress that your body can handle (not too easy, not too hard)

It's all just consistent training. Assuming your aren't overtraining just be patient and trust the process, I started out running and after a full year I still hadn't run under 23 minutes for a 5k. Meanwhile some of my friends started off no training running sub 19 and after a month of barely running dropped into the 17s. Now years later my consistency in the sport has me usually 10-20 seconds faster than my friends in the 5k and my higher mileage aerobics pays off way more in longer races. I can cruise a half marathon at their 10k pace

Perhaps you’re not being productive with your training. Try cutting a run in favour of an extra rest day. Need to remember that it’s not actually running that makes you faster, it’s just the stimulus. It’s the adaptions your body makes AFTER when we’re at rest & recovering. If you’re beating your body down faster than it can bounce back then you won’t be improving.

Thanks Everyone for the advice. I actually just started training training for track during July of last year. It was after a injury that I told my self I’ll go all in with track. Now I’m doing 50 mile weeks with long runs and speed work but the past meets I have been getting progressively worse. Hopefully once this sickness goes away I’ll be back to going fast. Appreciate it guys!
