4:44 It definitely was not Magnus's plan. In the live game, he was clearly cursing in Norwegian. But Magnus truly is Ian's kryptonite and winning after the double exchange sac really shows it
Not sure about kryptonite, in fact Ian used to be the only player to have never lost to Magnus in classical for very long time, maybe up to their championship match, or maybe a little bit earlier than that
It's interesting how Magnus is almost always higher rated than anyone else in any format be it online ratings or official ratings. Of course online blitz ratings fluctuate a lot due to farming but no top gm farms for rapid ratings and that means he's the highest rated because he just beats the other guys more in competitive online rapid games. He's also the highest rated in all three formats in the official ratings even today. I know he's dominated chess for over a decade but this level of dominance is actually insane.
He was raised as a prodigy from a young age and then came into his prime during the rise of high-level chess engines. So he had all the classical knowledge plus the engines and that just put him well over the top.
And then there's some random Indian dude bragging about Gukesh and that he performed in his last tournament with a 3060 rating, something that Magnus has never achieved he said. How dumb do you have to be to even think that way?!
@@klevialushi571 While it is true that Magnus has never achieved such performance rating, it doesn't in any way diminish Magnus' career achievements. Gukesh had a really good tournament in the Olympiad but can he keep it up? Can he continue at that pace for the next 3 months, or 6 months or a year or in fact 14 years? Can he go unbeaten in over 120 classical games? We'll have to wait and see I guess. Also Magnus mentioned that Gukesh is more calculative that instinctive, that's why he does much better in classical than in other formats. Magnus has 17 WC titles spread across all 3 formats. I have been watching your content for some several years now and always enjoyed them. I am glad that you’re still making these videos for us. Thanks for everything!
The reason it is different when Magnus blunders is because most of the time his opponent refuses to acknowledge that it is a blunder so he/ she doesn't take advantage of it. Of course, it doesn't work like this for the rest of us.
Not in this game. Nepo took the skewer and had a winning advantage. But Magnus found counterplay with an immediate attack after saccing another exchange. If Nepo could hold the attack, he would win. But not so easy to find all the only moves. So this was a case of Magnus able to play strongly after a blunder the opponent did take advantage of initially, but not able to convert. And everyone playing Magnus would expect this.
Before I watched Armageddon in real time yesterday, I checked their previous games. After 4 very equal games, I couldn't believe how Nepo seemed like his brain just "Errored," he shook his head (and made his stupid/funny face expressions), and I knew this is the end. The only good thing going for Nepo is the format. He's going into the Losers bracket, and he can still climb back. Like Magnus did a couple of times.
Ian is always nervous against magnus. I noticed most games they play eachother Magnus has complete psychological dominance over Nepo which is not enjoyable to watch since hes a very strong player with strong moves but doubts himself against Magnus.
People keep including Magnus within the engine generation. Magnus lives during the engine era but he is not within the engine players generation. Magnus won his first tournament in 2004. He most certainly improved his chess like the old masters. He is nothing like the likes of Alireza, Gukesh etc. Those younger ones completely depend on and trained by the engine. While Magnus utilizes the engine, it is just a supplement. Even an old folk like Kasparov uses the engine. Are you going to say "Kasparov is a man of the modern engine era" too?
Just wondering what the A is featured on Medo’s forehead What a game to lose for Nepo I think Magnus realized he did not need his Rooks since he had a knight and his Bishop along with his Queen going after Nepo’s king Looking forward to Levon vs Magnus Levon has been playing great chess great game from Magnus
It's important to remember that after blundering a piece or exchange, your opponent has to use a move to capture and may not be putting his piece on the best square. If you can find a way to take advantage of that, you can turn a total brain fart into a brilliant sacrifice and pretend you intended it that way. Agadmator has demonstrated that in at least one of his games.
Hey Antonio, I want to start a channel like yours. Please do a 'behind the scene' video about how you set up your camera, what software's and accessories do you use etc.
Agad the issue is, you skipped some moves of Nepo without analysis. Magnus definitely blundered, but Nepo should have played his subsequent moves more smartly, ofcourse the end was just hopeless so no need lamenting that.
great example of why its better to be attacking then defending. one mistake on the defense and the game is just lost. this game is far to frustrating. If its not to absolute amateurs playing together for laughs, then it becomes unbearable and annoying to play.
I have been a fan of the channel for years but I must tell you, that new camera you got is ruining your content. It is constantly zooming in and out and has become so distracting I can hardly stand it. Please fix it.
Recovering from a blunder, or if you opponent doesn't exploit your blunder, doesn't mean it wasn't a blunder. We've all seen plenty of unpunished blunders.
Magnus is the best players of the modern engine era, but Bobby Fischer is the greatest of all time, he did it without age of the engines. With modern engines, all kind of preparations can be made. the other players also use engines. if all player use it neither player has an advantage of another player. So preparation is not an argument for fischer. Fischer was dominant for a short period of time. Magnus is dominating Chess for a decade or more.
