Interesting speculation being made on the Yussaf (Yosef) character as being the "Joseph of Arimathea" in the Bible. "Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus..." Seems a reasonable supposition as he is a student of Nicodemus. I suppose we'll have to wait and see....

I could see Jesus' mother traveling with them a lot. I learned in Bible study that once a Jewish woman lost her husband, if they didnt remarry they were pretty much left destitute, many were left to die. They had no one to take care of them, except her sons. My favorite episode was the first one where Mary ran from the tavern and Jesus called her by name. He then took hold of her head to drive out the demons. I sobbed. Then in the episode where Mary came back and had to face Jesus. She couldnt, she was too ashamed. She said I broke and you fixed me and then she said You redeemed me and I just threw it all away. He said it isnt much of a redemption if it can be lost in a day. I felt the very same way when I came to Christ last summer. I do enjoy your commentaries, Ive watched both seasons all the way through 4 times. Picking up new things each time.

Oh wow, Steve! Watching again every riveting scene in this whole episode, leaves me in awe of the brilliant script, the superb anointed acting by Jonathan, all the disciples & unknown newcomers, Quintus, Atticus ... and the music or background sounds that help to create the atmosphere. I am constantly drawn into feeling I'm there in the moment with them all, yet understanding with hindsight all the various tensions that are so natural and real within the group who are also discovering themselves as they battle to understand Jesus and His ministry. This is another profoundly impacting episode, where I agree with all your insights.

What I like about Atticus and why he's recognizing something going on with Jesus is also what makes him good at his job, makes him a dangerous man, he's Observant. He listens and Watches before Acting or talking. He spent a number of episodes not saying a word just standing back and watching events unfold around him. When others are to busy or to into their own worlds to realize what's going on with Jesus, Atticus on the other hand, it's his job to observe the world going on around him. It's kind of like that old saying, sometimes you're to into the mix to see what's going on, sometimes you have to just take a step back and look at the big picture as a whole, That's Atticus seeing the picture from the outside, like the viewers of the show.

    “Where are you from?”
    “Wadi Kelt…”
    “Where?”
It’s hilarious because no one’s heard of this tiny town. And this question of where they are from gets lost in the rest of the conversations. But I find it hilarious!

I was a tad disappointed to find your season 1:1 video had no clips or viewing of the episode, but kept in there, cos i knew those type videos were coming! So, so glad you're going to revisit your commentary on 1:1, as Seeing the video along with your commentary is so instructive & helps the viewers & lovers of the Word to both enjoy watching it with someone who can offer such valuable insight as well as experience the context & gravity of the Word in full Living colour. So that "coming to the end" of the season, is bitter sweet, because we've got another fresh look at all that was contained in 1:1 to look forward to. Thank you for your insights, especially with you being a pastor, many leaders put themselves on a pedestal where the average person can never reach them or truly get to know them. I really enjoy your reactions to various scenes, whenever I laugh or cry, I look to see how you react and it's golden. I remember watching the very first episode and I thought you were 'mean' LOL, you barely smiled or reacted but I'm sure it does take an act of courage to put your face up there for every kind of critique!..... and I'm sure you've come to settle in, not worrying about how to act/react etc, I think it's a hard job for some of us who don't like center stage. I've watched this series so many times and I've learned a lot because of it, I go look up things in my Bible to better understand the plot. This series has definitely drawn me closer to the Father on many fronts, everybody is well suited to the roles they've been assigned....it's truly Gods work!

The scene with Jesus praying after hearing the news of John being arrested and then seeing Him keep his cool when Quintos throws his last line really gave both a humanizing and solid side of Jesus' character.
Being a viewer who's seen all the past Jesus movies made in the 70s/80-90s they always had Jesus be this stone fist type person who didn't bat an eye at whatever happened to His cousin and just drive on down the road. This breaks that wall.

What I enjoy is the dichotomy of these 5 'external' or perhaps extra-biblical characters. Here you have Quintus, Gaius, Atticus, Shmuel and Yussaf. Five men, all exposed to the same information and yet how each of the individual 5 responds to it is interesting to me. Atticus does not dismiss it as mumbo jumbo or magic, nor do I suspect does Yussaf (at least not in the political climbing way) Gaius is just doing his job, but is not as entrenched (possibly because how high he can climb is limited to his parentage)....Quintus is too narcissistic and self important to see or even care to see the truth (or that is my take on him, although his character is enjoyable entertainment) Schmuel is too much of a party line supporter on legalism and I suspect social climber. Yussaf is a wild card. I could see him going either way. My gut tellls me both Atticus and Gaius could well become converts as they are not as quick to dismiss and Gaius as not a natural born Roman, actually did like Matthew even though he was a Jew by birth. But we see this in life...even in my own family. All seeing the same information and yet not all are believers. But then again, many are called but not all chosen and sadly some will fall under the, seeing they won't see, and hearing they will not hear category. But I do love watching these five paths and am interested to see how many end up on the same END PATH. Side note, there is later on a man named Gaius numbered among the believers later on in the gospels in Romans (irony) 16:23...here is hoping.

@@EmbracetheQuestion I am anxious to see how much influence Nicodemus has on Yussaf. It was hinted at in this episode, and Yussaf seems to trust Nicodemus's assessment on things in general and it would seem it carries on to Jesus specifically, as he said, I believe my Rabbi saw something in Jesus. So, this begs the question, will Nicodemus's opinion bring along Yussaf in its wake? OR will Nicodemus's hesitancy to openly follow be an opportunity lost to "save" Yussaf. I hope it is a relationship that is fleshed out a bit on other seasons. I like how this kind of thing plays out. Each of us can have an effect not even intended in the lives of others...like a stone thrown into a pond causes ripples. This would be a great series of questions for discussions on what the outcome of these 5 characters may portend.

It has been a while since I have seen that scene, but in Jesus’s day that wall was simply part of the rest of the temple compound and didn’t hold any special significance over the others. After the temple’s destruction in 70ad, that western wall was all that was left intact which was how it gained the label “wailing” wall. So likely that wasn’t necessarily meant to depict that particular wall.

Linda, that was the RUclips utility attempting to remove the soundtrack from the audio because it's copyrighted. It messed up the sound of the video.

Why did jesus call himself the law if moses. I could see him being the law of moses because of who he is, but he didn't say that in the bible.

Completely true - He never said that. That isn't a line I would have kept, personally. The Law came through Moses, Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ. That said, I get the point they were trying to make. Jesus came to be a replacement, of sorts. He is our healing, our sabbath, our festivals... etc. He fulfilled the entire purpose of the Law (the purpose which Israel as a nation had completely missed).

Simon and Andrew remind me of my own younger brothers (I frequently want to knock their heads together, and they're both in their late 40s).
The disciples's bickering and one-upmanship makes a lot more sense when you consider that they were all likely between 13 and 21 years old. Typical kids. Lol
Shmuel is annoying, but I have to respect the fact that to his mind he is doing what he believes is right. He truly believes that Jesus is a false prophet, and he's trying to enforce Jewish laws and keep people from being deceived, unaware that he's actually the one who is deceived. Unfortunately he's gotten involved with Yanni, who cares more about the politics and getting ahead than the actual law of God or the people.
I believe Yousef may wind up being Joseph of Arimathea; he recognizes that Nicodemus has seen something about Jesus, and he seems to have a more open mind about what that might be.
    Have a blessed day! 🙏✝️❤

Where in the scripture was Jesus detained by the Romans, except in the garden. The scene is not real, it did not happen, (that we know of). Instead it is made up by human imagination. There was a time when I would have said that this is a wonderful series. I would no longer suggest this to anyone, especially someone looking for the truth of the Word. The second season has two false episodes, the first is when Mary runs away, and Jesus says words he never said, " did you think you would never sin again". No Jesus never says this in the scripture , he says " go and sin no more". . If Jesus words are not sufficient , then you have no right to be showing him to the sick and hurting world we live in.

Cheryl, I don't think you're wrong here. But the key words you wrote were "that we know of". No, I don't think Jesus was ever detained except in the garden. Does that alter the Gospel message? For me, no. He did say "go and sin no more" more than once. Why? Not because He was offended by it. If He was, He would NEVER have hung out with tax collectors and prostitutes. The only kind of people Jesus looked down upon were religious people who thought they could justify themselves with their own righteousness. He KNEW He was going to fix the sin issue. Why then did He make the statement "go and sin no more"? Because it was going to get that woman (or man) killed. Sin hurts God's kids. But the flesh is prone to evil, and the message the devil tells us is that if we sin, we are unforgivable. Especially the 10th or 1000th time. And yet... the tax collector that beat his breast and said, "God forgive me, a sinner" was justified, not the "righteous" Pharisee. That was the point... and that is consistent with the message of the entire new testament. Where sin abounds, grace super-abounds.

Luke didn't write for Paul. Luke was nowhere around Jesus when Jesus was on earth. Luke was medicine student far away from Israel in 30 AD, maybe Antioch which had a school of medicine. Mark was like 13 in 33AD . Mark might has been the kid who ran naked leaving his rich cloth (rich kid pajamas)behind in the garden. Luke was companion of Paul but wrote his books for a Roman-Greek politician who converted to Christianity called Theophilus. Luke wrote his books after Paul was executed in 66 AD. Mathews wrote his Gospel before Luke, because Luke says many had already written Gospels(Mathew and Mark were some of those he talks about).

My favorite is Mary Magdalene. Not because is biblical or accurate( it's actually mostly un biblical) but because the actress is excellent and she is also gorgeous.

Urban cohort LOL like a Roman SS going to see a "Praetor" on "intelligence" about a Jewish preacher and healer. Hight ranking Romans didn't care about Jesus or any healer. Pilate didn't even know who Jesus was LOL . There were many healers and false Messiahs , not just Jesus in 30 AD LOL
