  • I found out over the weekend that Amtrak would be running one of their new Avelia Liberty Acela 21 sets from Philadelphia to Boston on Monday morning, following behind Northeast Regional 172. Although I personally think the new Acelas are hideous, I still thought it would be cool to go out and see it making its first daylight run through New Jersey. I had a few ideas of where to go, but I decided I would give New Brunswick a shot. I stayed for a few hours and was able to see a good number of trains, including the Avelia Liberty.
1: Train 3722 arrives with ALP-45DP 4502 in charge. Multilevel Cab Car 7014 is at the end. Train 3915 pulls in shortly after 3722 departs, led by Cab Car 7028. ALP-46A 4657 powers the set from the rear.
2: Train 3936 rolls in with Arrow III 1463 leading the way. 1505 is trailing.
3: Northeast Regional 172 makes its stop with ACS-64 636 on the point.
4: Amtrak Extra 874 passes by with the Avelia Liberty Acela 21 set. Power Car 2102 is on the point, and 2103 is at the end.
5: Train 3829 arrives with Cab Car 7039 leading the way. As it pulls in, Northeast Regional 141 races past with ACS-64 622 on the point. ALP-46A 4659 brings up the rear of 3829.
6: Silver Meteor 98 rushes through with ACS-64s 658 and 618 on the point, running 7 minutes late.
7: Train 3831 arrives 3 minutes early with Arrow III 1515 in charge. 1495 brings up the rear.
8: Vermonter 56 charges past the station with ACS-64 637 on the point.
9: Train 3836 pulls in with ALP-46A 4645 on the point. Cab Car 7042 is at the end.
10: Train 3833 makes its stop with ALP-46A 4641 in charge. Cab Car 7007 is trailing.
11: Train 3838 is overtaken by Acela Express 2158 as it approaches the station. ALP-46 4606 is on the point, and Multilevel II Cab Car 7054 is at the end. 2158 has Power Cars 2010 and 2015.
12: Northeast Regional 95 passes through with ACS-64 639 in charge.
    13: ACS-64 615 hauls Pennsylvanian 43 past the station.
14: Acela Express 2155 flies by with Power Cars 2028 and 2007.
15: ALP-46 4603 pulls Train 3835 into the station, running 12 minutes late. Cab Car 7022 is trailing.
16: Train 3840 crosses the bridge over George Street/County Route 672 as it departs, led by Cab Car 7060. Trailing is ALP-46A 4647.
17: Train 3842 arrives with Arrow III 1495 leading the way. 1515 is trailing.
18: Crescent 20 races through 21 minutes early with ACS-64 659 leading the way. Train 3839 pulls in just after the Crescent passes, led by ALP-46A 4643. Cab Car 7043 is trailing.
19: ALP-46A 4659 pulls Train 3844 into the station. Cab Car 7039 is at the end.
20: Northeast Regional 174 passes by with ACS-64 614 leading.
21: Train 3841 pulls in with Comet V Cab Car 6014 leading the way. ALP-46A 4656 powers the set from the rear.

Definitely awesome! I caught some of the same trains you did except at EWR. One thing though, you have, in the description, #141 mentioned twice (the second being #12). The second southbound Regional was #95.

I live in New Brunswick. I can't count the number of times I've stood on the eastbound platform to take a train to either NYC or Newark.

Definitely a Multilevel overload. This station was my old stomping ground: real good vantage points.

Probably to warn of track maintenance, or that the regional as coming in pretty fast right next to the njt train.

I respect your opinion Genesis and wonderful video :), but I love the new Avelias mainly because of their design; They're a unique and new addition to the variety of U.S rolling stock. One thing I do have to complain about very very much are those 2 chime horns. They are most certainly disappointing, even for something built by Alstom for use in the U.S. I would at least have expected them to have something linked to the United States railroading legacy such as an American locomotive horn. Possibly a raised letter K5 or the older hybrid K5s heck maybe even the old cast K5's since we seem to be running out of good and prime examples of them. Horn wise I would take the SC-44's, ACS-64's, or SCB-40's twenty miles over these. :( P.S One thing I favor with the SC-44's is the continuation of strobelights and emergency flashers.
