They have been singing together since they were kids and started recording in 1959 in Australia and then came back to England to hit it big. They write the music and lyrics for all the songs they sing and well as writing songs for a number of other big artists - Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick, etc. They also produced records for other artists at their studio in Miami starting in the 1980s. No auto tone because all their harmonies are natural. They had no formal musical training.

While Mo didn't do lead as often as Barry and Robin he did arrange the music. That was his passion. They sang over a thousand songs over a 5decade period all genres so a song for all occasions. If you watch You should be dancing in 1976 I think it was you will see Andy their younger brother singing with them.

Well, the Bee Gees had about a five decade recording career, and during that time they reinvented themselves many times. If you want to stay in the mid to late 70s "falsetto" vibe, Love So Right is a great one. I think it was the first single they ever released that had falsetto lead vocal all the way through the song. It's very beautiful. BUT...if you want a surprise, check out Nights On Broadway. Barry really has three lead vocal voices, and he uses all three on Nights. He has sort of a gritty, meaty chest voice, that high clear falsetto that you heard on these tracks, and the soft mellow chest voice, like what he uses on One and How Deep is Your Love. But the versatility will amaze you. Also, among my faves, Lonely Days, Nothing Could Be Good, Be Who You Are, Smoke and Mirrors and This is Where I Came In. but it's all very very good stuff. the Bee Gees rabbit hole is DEEP!

  • @susieq9801

While in these particular songs the lead is sung by Barry, don't deprive yourself. Maurice occasionally sang lead but very often it was Robin who sang lead and he also often sang lead either alternating in the same song or at the same time with Barry as in "How deep is your love" (if you notice both were singing together) and Maurice usually provided the high harmony. Both had very different voices but when together did sound like one person as you said. Robin had an absolutely unique, iconic voice with a beautiful natural vibrato. Listen to "I started a Joke" from their 1989 Melbourne concert or "Bodyguard", both Robin leads. I like "Above and Beyond" or "Closer than close" with Maurice in the lead. These guys were brilliant live and just as good if not better than the studio recordings. They absolutely knew each others' voices because the brothers sang together since they were children of 5 and 9. All three wrote their songs and wrote for other famous artists ("Islands in the Stream" for Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton - ."Chain Reaction" for Diana Ross" - "Guilty" and "Woman in Love" for Barbra Streisand" - "Immortality" for Celine Dion - "Heartbreaker" for Dionne Warwick just to name a few.

From December 1977 until two years later, we saw a total domination on airwaves of the Brothers Gibb and the first global stardome with sold out stadion concerts and nine #1 world hits in a row who is unmatched since today . Their own label was forced to press their record from other record companies, because heir own record label could no longer keep up with the drift. They shaped the time-spirit of the late seventies of a whole generation and millions flocked to the dance studios. 🕺

Great reactions to a great musical trio...These brothers started out in the '50s, when Barry was 9 & the twins were 6 yrs old and were still putting out great music through the mid 2000's, so there's a lot to check out! You haven't even begun to scratch the surface yet, it's a deep, deep rabbit hole! They had a younger brother, Andy, who had a very promising but very short musical career
The oldest Gibb sibling, Leslie, was also with the group for a short while. Only Leslie & Barry are still living. Both Gibb parents, Hugh & Barbara, were musicians as well. Barry, Robin & Maurice all had individual/solo albums & songs too..They considered themselves as song writers first and foremost. They wrote and produced songs for many famous singers. They often sang duets with famous artists too. Barry did a duet with Michael Jackson, which most folks aren't aware of. I encourage you to check out their early works, like their Cucumber Castle album and going from there. You will find that the diversity in their music is astonishing!! Robin's last recording was a very classical type of song, Don't Cry Alone.
Looking forward to watching more with you.

There's age in their voices (and yet still perfect) and years behind them but the emotion and love in the song elevates this beyond any other performance I've seen from them. Hope you check it out. They have been singing together since little kids, so they know each other’s voices. The song writing is a collaboration of the brothers as well. So yes, they know each other’s voices. They have written over 1,000 songs for themselves as well as other artists ( as well as producing other artists), you have a lot to pick from. The Beatles, The Beach Boys and the Bee Gees: the three greatest (the 3 Bs) of contemporary poprock. Why? Because each of these bands "invented" an "original" sound, each was a genius for catchy melody, each gave itself a signature that is unique to it and recognizable among all. In other words, exceptional creators incapable of missing a composition! Result: They have become benchmarks for musical perfection (in their genre, of course); they will remain so for a very long time... and that's only fair! Thanks.

The 1978 Billboard Hot 100 charts (YEAR END CHART) had "How Deep is Your Love" at #6 for the year and "Night Fever" at #2 for the year. They were both beat out by ... ((drum roll, please)) ... "Shadow Dancing" by Andy Gibb - The Bee Gees younger brother!!
Andy Gibb had the #1 song of 1978.
The Bee Gees - and their younger brother - dominated the charts. Between them they had 5 out of the top 10 songs of the year

Thank you for your reaction. The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin'. From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too ruclips.net/video/7niXSh7vWRI/видео.html More live recommendations: medleys of their older material like this one: ruclips.net/video/faoIZAvaQ6Y/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/gsQw8UKfxd0/видео.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: ruclips.net/video/WH_j90fCIk4/видео.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out ruclips.net/video/vfHUS5Mf00Q/видео.html. A great way to watch the Bee Gees singing live is to watch one of their medleys. They usually did at least one medley at each concert, some of their older hits with a simple accompaniment and all singing close together with one mic, which is the way they had sung as young children when they first became professional singers and songwriters. This is a really good medley from 1989: ruclips.net/video/BfIMEdc8BdE/видео.html . Or this one from 1997 ruclips.net/video/2t9aXJC2Xqw/видео.html . Or do them both. I am of the opinion that the live presentations should be heard AFTER listening to the studio versions, many times the orchestras alter the magic of the most representative songs, the only live version that I could recommend would be the one of the song "Nights on Broadway", the only live performance that does them justice, and then tell you that to recommend songs by the Bee Gees is very, very difficult, the catalog is long, they even made their younger brother Andy Gibb a star, who in In 1978 they composed the song that was NUMBER 1 OF THE YEAR on Billboard USA, IN ADDITION to other fabulous songs, they also composed countless singers, THE DISTINCTIVE that the Bee Gees had when making songs for other artists was to appear on the song as background choirs, so if you ever hear a song in which you think there is a background choir with the Bee gees' voice, it is sure that they made it for ra that singer. examples would be "emotions" by Samantha Sang, "Heartbreaker" by Dione Warwick...

YES! i’ve been waiting for this one! great choices to listen to, and it made me so happy to see One getting some attention, that song isn’t appreciated enough lmao. you could easily make countless videos on the bee gees but for the next video i would suggest including songs like Alone, Massachusetts, Jive Talkin, and Fanny (Be Tender With My Love) - which i personally think was the very best song they ever recorded.

Thanks for that ..... that was a sumptuous feast of pure unadulterated ear candy for an unapologetic life-long beegees fan like me......I've been a fan from 1968....when I was all of 8 years old....thanks so much.... looking forward to more.....

Enjoyed your observations and the various elements you picked up on for each of the 4 songs. When you mentioned the drums in your comments about the song “One” I immediately thought of another Bee Gees song, “You Win Again”. I hope you consider reacting to it. Thanks for your enjoyable reaction videos. I appreciate the sincerity and the honesty especially when you relate how a song affects you emotionally.

Love the way you do 4 songs at a time. If you get the time and get back to them I would like to request a nother 4 song grouping if I may? "I could not love you more", "The only love", "Will you still love me tomorrow", and "Live or die". That would be so awesome if you could do those together! They are all amazing, but then again, so is everything they do. I think they were allergic to writing bad songs ;) Hardcore BG's fan since 72.

Love the bass parts on all their sons. Maurice composes them even if he does not play the bass during a concert, his bass part is played by the hired bassist.

After years of Barry singing falsetto, found it difficult to continue concert tours because it affects his back muscles and caused pain. They produced a dvd called For One Night Only. So at least we have their concert preserved for all time

Barry is a wonderful singer and songwriter, as is Robin. But too often people forgot that Maurice was too! Closer Than Close is one great example of his songwriting and singing. There's a live version on RUclips that really good.

I was in grade school when they were huge. Them, Barry Manilow, etc. I had an older brother in high school, so I heard it all through the bedroom wall! When I started buying music in oh 1980-82, this was all VERY uncool! But I knew all the words and secretly loved it and saw them in concert. Screw everybody!!! Hahaha!!! 🤣

They're brothers and have been performing together since they were young kids. If you want to see a good live performance try "One Night Only", Words is my favorite song of theirs but Jive Talkin is quite good too

Nights On Broadway, BeeGees live on The Midnight Special is a must-see. Their younger brother Andy Gibb can also be seen performing live on Midnight Special, Don Kirschner's Rock Concert, hosting Solid Gold, & on duets with Olivia Newton-John, Crystal Gayle, Marie Osmond, Frankie Valli & that list goes on & on.....best voices ever

Classic!! Oh those harmonies!! A lot of people don't know they had some really amazing songs in the late 60s as well....they were putting out great music pre-disco. Holiday, I Started A Joke, I've Got To Get A Message To You, Massachusetts.....so many others. You should check into those as well. Side note.... Take That did a remake of "How Deep Is Your Love" which is actually very good, with one of the weirdest most sadistic videos to accompany it

Please react to the Live Performance of the Bee gees song You Should Be Dancing. Andy Gibb their youngest brother sings with them. Andy sang part time with the Bee gees and had a Solo career. The plan was for him to then join the Bee Gees full time. Andy was announced as joining them but passed away before he could. Andy was 30 Years old.

Jive Talking bass line is everything, and you would love it! Nights on Broadway shows their individual voices very well. They all could do falsetto and do it well. Fanny, Be Tender With My Love is an absolutely stunning masterpiece and my biggest rec for them. Quincy Jones said it's one of the best R&B songs he's heard and tried in vain to find someone to cover it. Older songs like To Love Somebody, I Started A Joke and Massachusetts (Robin lead on the second two with his angelic emotional and vulnerable voice) are must-hears too.
Love your reactions to this. They always sound lovely.
Never a bad song at all from them.
