Always great to see you sir 🙂 great choice with the Laowa 65mm. It'll give you 2x magnification when up close 🙂 I've had mine for a year or so now and absolutely love it. It's a very, very (very) sharp, accurate lens. MF is great with a decent throw on the MF ring. With Fuji's peaking as well it's a breeze. I think you'll love it and can't wait to see your images. Did I say it's sharp? I also use the 30mm and like you had concerns about its working distance. But I'm getting used to it. But (again) I have the best macro lens ever made - my Micro Nikkor 105mm f2.8G. I've got a Fringer "smart" adapter for full auto use on my X-H2, but it's on my D700 that it sings its best tunes. It's a phenomenal lens 🙂
I own an old Zuiko 50mm macro which doesn't get a lot of use but it's handy when I want to get in closer. I also have extendable helicoid adapters for most of the other vintage lens mounts I play with. Depending on the lens that gets pretty close to macro size. I also have Fuji extension tube which fits neatly into a bag or pocket and helps get in a little closer with Fuji lenses.
I have the XF80, really great lens, very sharp, but I find it too heavy for walking around, so I mostly use it on a tripod for tabletop photos such as water drops, rusty screws and other small “stuff” that I find outside my door (I have to justify the purchase). Nick and Dexter always get excellent images with the Laowa 65mm. Be well and stay safe.
On my X-T20 I use a Canon EF-S 60mm adapted with Fringer for macro. It has auto focus with manual override. Many very succesful bug shots. Never had a spider complain.
B&H, what a magical place. Back when I had Fuji i had the fuji 80mm f.28 macro. But I don't think i used it that much? Have and use the Nikon Z MC 105 now. Not sure i'd like a 60. In the way back I had a sigma 180 ish something macro. That was a beast. size wise.
i dont do a lot of macro - but whenever i need it i use a macro extension tube and i use the 50-140 with it. mainly for ring shots when i have the time.
Yeah, I haven’t done any macro shooting since my D5000, D7000 days. So I have no idea what I’m doing other than my knowledge of the thousands of videos I’ve watched over the years on how to focus stack and better macro. But this will be my first adventure and actually applying anything I’ve learned. Which isn’t much lol
Uh oh, that title tells me you're G.A.S. has built to an unmanageable level!! LOL! Birdus interuptus... In NYC, everyone's a star! I only have one lens that goes macro. It's a vintage lens from my 1984 Ricoh X-RP, a Rikenon 35-70 macro f3.5 - 4.5. But, I haven't done any real macro photography at all since I got my X-T3. Only some very close stuff with whatever lens I happen to be using. Usually, the XF18-55. Is B & H good for used equipment too? Take care, have a great week!

I had the Nikkor when I was a Nikon boy. Loved it on my D800 and D850. But I'm sure the D700 sensor makes it do magical work.

If I get the hang of this lens I want to get more manual vintage lenses. Thank you for sharing your experience.

That was my concern with the 80mm. Was it too much lens for my soft hands? Lol
Looking forward to seeing some of the photos you took with the Laowa.
Me too my friend lol. A whole new adventure for me. Wish me luck lol

All big lenses. Get yourself something light for your next one lol
@@MoeMorales Very good advice.

18-55 is pretty versatile
