Bring Me The Horizon are in the same about that Linkin Park was. The band is simply to creative to stick with one specific sound. A lot of people were upset that Linkin Park got less heavy since Minutes to Midnight and moved away from their Nu-Metal style but even without doing Nu-Metal the band had a very distinct sound by which people would immediately know it's Linkin Park. Just like Linkin Park before them BMTH has embranced that creativity and the freedom to be able to try and experiment with different sounds. Just look at Post-Human: Survival Horror. It's much heavier then people were expecting but people said the same about Linkin Park's Hunting Party album.
I've always felt that Linkin Park somewhat opened the door for bands to be different. It wasn't much accepted and appreciated when Linkin Park did it but when BMTH came out with a very pop-oriented album it was celebrated and viewed as a daring album. So I'm at least glad that bands these days don't feel the pressure as much as sticking with a specific sound just to appease a specific set of fans.

I don't think it's a good idea to stop making music for their early audience, however I do also see the value in progressing and changing your sound frequently enough to stay fresh and keep growing an audience. What an ignorant dumb comment!
"Otherwise you end up like Metallica". I'm far from being a Metallica fan, but what do you mean by that? End up like Metallica, that is (still) probably the biggest metal act in the world, along with Iron Maiden, and one of the biggest names on the world music industry overall?
That are still playing live and making new music, for more than 40 years?!
These or any other kids wish to end up like them!!
And a " audience of 40-60yr"?! That is how loyalty looks. There are probably fans that were with the band since they one, among those 40-60yr. What more can you asked for?
I can understand your point, but is better having that, that 20 yo cheering for you one day and don't giving a f@ck to "you" the next day because they found a "new toy".
Also, the Metallica guys are in their 60s! What did you expect? That they start making music with synthesizers and computers and release singles with Cardi B and David Guetta just to please and attract new potential younger fans? Pathetic from all angles.
That would be the definition of posers and cash grabbers.
Like I said, I'm not a fan of Metallica, but they don't have to prove nothing to nobody no more.
Please send me pictures/video from a BMTH concert audience in 20 years from now. I want to see what an enlightened, always growing, diverse audience looks like.
You think that this things work like exponential growth. Obviously you don't know shit.

Bring Me The Horizon, Parkway Drive, For The Fallen Dreams, A Day To Remember, In Hearts Wake etc. I remember discovering ERRA right after Parkway hopped on the "dad rock train" and I haven't missed them one bit. Recently I was so excited about Spiritbox because of their EP and older singles (Rule of Nines, Holy Roller, Blessed Be)... but once again, something happened after their official debut album came out. It's probably just the bands' realization of getting more exposure and money (people gotta eat) if they just keep doing the rock radio thing after they get their foot in the door with actual good stuff.

What bothers me about most metalcore bands who transition into hard rock/octane radio stuff is they don’t seem to even try to move the needle. Instead of slightly raising the bar for creativity in rock, they basically remaster a solid rock album from 12 years ago. It’s a bummer because I actually think it’s a miscalculation. People today, especially younger people, are very open to different takes on heavy genres. But instead of carving out their own audience, they give right into the dad rock festival sound. SPIRITBOX is a great example. Started out pretty interesting with a ton of potential. Now they’re turning into an over hyped Evanescence.
Ghostemane, Poppy, PVRIS, MOTHICA, SCARLXRD are all examples of how creative spins on rock and metal can be interesting and catered to new audiences. You don’t have to love them, but at least they aren’t rehashing Evanescence every single.
It’s not to say these bands are all making bad music. I actually think SPIRITBOX and ADTR have made some very good rock singles. But we’ve all heard it before by now.

To expect them to play deathcore at this stage is silly. They became so big and their audience is so huge that they won’t put themselves in a genre bubble. I did not like Amo at ALL. But their stuff since then has been good

To expect them to make new deathcore songs is silly, sure.. But they do play deathcore, regardless of their big audience. Ever since Oli's voice started to get better, they've been performing deathcore medleys more regularly at shows.. Which is great, because they didn't _need_ to do it, but they did it anyway.

Jordan’s response is good, but he isn’t the person who to ask if they’ll go heavy since he wasn’t in the band when they were at their heaviest. Plus, it’s all subjective I suppose anyway, what Jordan thinks is heavy vs what we think.
Either way though, Jordan is a fantastic addition & I enjoy what he’s contributed to BMTH. Definitely looking forward to the upcoming EP & the ones to follow!

I feel like metal bands that sign into mainstream records or "sellout" usually dance around this question. Why not just come out and say I'm not into metal anymore? Nothing wrong with making mainstream radio music, you're getting older, and you want money to pay the bills. Just be upfront instead of hiding behind pretentious musical integrity spiels or being like, "My mentality as a musician evolved into more of a producers mentality, hence the variety of different sounds" Good interview it's always nice to get perspective from musicians from all over the spectrum.

I think it's just such a generic question, like it's not a retail business that you're asking if they're gonna stock a shoe in red or whatever...It's about how they feel at a particular time and what they want to express through music...So these types of question like "Are you gonna make a heavy song again?" like they're buying a potato from a grocery store are just tedious and out of place...

Elitism ruins music the deathcore fans in particular are the worst if their isn't a garbage disposal grinding broccoli on vocals and the same 0101 rifts 9000 bands have already done it's not real music to them. Music is music and it's subjective stop hyper focusing on what genre something is to gage weather or not its okay for you to like it.
