33 games with Wrexham and 32 wins with 1 draw .... lost the FA cup quarter final vs Spurs 0-5 as the only defeat this season. Not sure it´s more difficult, the most important thing are not stats and tactics but team cohesion and overall happiness. I play a regular 4-4-2 gegenpress. When all 3 bars are high (where team cohesion is) your team plays better than Barca in its glory days.
I think he's struggling due to hubris. Weaver is ASS, get rid of him. Your gran could do better so call her up if you can't get anyone else. Doesn't matter how many goals you score if your keeper thinks he's the opposing striker. You're trying to do some kind of tactical voodoo to make up for the fact that your keeper is a turnstile.
i’m pretty sure that in the lower leagues of northern ireland there are no loan restrictions, so you can get a billion loan players in and get promoted super easily
Oof. That was a pained "if you've enjoyed that". I've been managing Alfreton and had similar experiences, but thankfully I inherited two good strikers. It feels loads more inconsistent this year, and it took me four separate tactics before something clicked and we shot up the league. Unfortunately for me, that tactic relied on a 37 year old targetman who barely lost a header all season then promptly retired leaving me up the creek again... You got this, Coach Kev!
Since yoou can't avoid conceding goals you could simply not defend and try to score as much as you can. It worked in my Osasuna save last year, winning the treble with a super agressive 3412 and not defending at all
When all else fails, try a diamond. Since you don't seem to have anyone to play the AMC you could push that role to an attacking midfielder from central midfield flanked by two supporting midfielders and a DM playing deeper.
I've had a similar start to you - started unemployed & got brought into Tunbridge (expected to be bottom) and after 12 games in charge sitting one point off the relegation zone 😭 Conceding 5/6 goals with xG's of like 2 😭 It's such fun though trying to turn these clubs around

I found this channel today, I'm loving this series! I'm not a big FM player, but I do buy it every other year to do exactly this, start in the lowest league possible in England. I never got far, but its fun. Seems to me I always miss a big part of the game since my clubs can never afford sports scientists etc. I wasn't planning picking FM22, but I am kinda liking the player movement on the game engine... might have to do it.
What an amazing series so far! Other's are right, it's much more interesting to see you trying to overcome this rather than stomping on everyone all the time! Stay at the club though!
I like what many people are noticing about this years FM; lower leagues seem to be tougher! As much as I like seeing you win all the time Kev, it does make it more interesting when there’s a real struggle. You got this Kev!
Started a Leamington save when the game first launched as they’re my local team and lost the playoff final in my first season and broke the record points total finishing on 117 in my second season😳😂was all whilst using the 4231 Gegenpress, along with some top tier loan players
What im finding in this years FM. Overlap on the left / right, work ball into box and positive / attacking options just dont work and get you into trouble. Im finding the less instructions the better.
Kev, the tactics are the issue. Lower the defensive line but keep the line of engagement very high! It sounds counter intuitive but it works for the target man and little man combo as it keeps your two strikers high up the pitch. Also keep at least 1 fullback on defense. 442 or the lob sided 442 is perfectly fine just make sure you keep your forwards high up the pitch by raising line if engagement. Good luck!
Maybe try a more defensive/cautious approach. I'm doing Non-League to Legend with Farsley and struggled to play my standard formation and style of play, so changed to a counter attacking flowing football in a 4-3-3, with a deep defending playmaker and bounced back from bottom to mid table. Loving the series
Had a similar problem with Bradford Park Ave (closest team to me at this level...) I shifted to a 4231 of sorts. Two DMs, both defensive ball-winning mids, two Wide Midfields, a CM on AP support, and a pacy advanced forward. Fullbacks on WB support... Not pretty, very boring highlights, picked up a few yellows but battled out draws and 1-0s, and avoided relegation on points, and stopped the thumpings so goal difference would have also kept us up.
I am having a miserable time managing Braintree, so it is reassuring someone with your knowledge is also finding it a challenge. I am working to the basis that if I can get to the end of the season without being relegated, I can do a full on clear out of the expensive deadwood.
One thing you could do is look into playing a formation with a target forward with good physical stats. Dulwich Hamlet have a striker called Danny Mills who was a monster in my save with them, since he has decent physical stats for that level. All I did was hoof the ball to him every game and it worked til I got to league 2.
I have gone for a 4231 possession tactic purely in hope I can keep the ball and run the opposition into the ground. Seems to be working as I am currently on a 22 game unbeaten run and top of the league. My players seem to be keeping their fitness up but that has also been helped by being knocked out of the cups in the opening rounds.
I always enjoy the saves where you see Kev is just like us and actually has zero clue on how to do things. I was sure we were due another walk out today
After being extremely close to the sack with Chelmsford (2nd bottom but only one goes down in the South) I got the 'unwilling to experiment' message, switched to fluid counter attack and form/results have picked up. Binning off my 33-y-o centre half who twice missed training has also coincided with the upturn :)
Kev try a 4411 and use the vietical tika taka tactic but take off playthrough middle and underlap. Also hold shape when you have the ball. It's not fancy football unless you have top players but is defensively solid. Should stop you loosing games which should help moral etc.
Not sure if you have the players to do it but maybe move to a 5 in midfield and 1 up front? Doesn't help the goal scoring but maybe a defensive midfielder might help perhaps? 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 maybe?
I suggest a manmarking on the opposition fullbacks. I always fo it, my RightWinger covering their leftback etc. Their second goal is the result of your winger letting him go, he crossed and they scored. It's à no-brainer for me, specially if you play with 2 strikers.
Hi Kev, My you tube save has also started in Vanarama National league North at Curzon Ashton. Like you I had huge struggles initially with attempts at counter or direct football. Also have same issues with contracts and wage budgets. I changed my formation to a 'Control Possession' 4-3-3 DM Wide and found to have much more success winning 6 from 8. Might be worth a try.
Bit of a late reply bit catching up with the videos. I always start a non league to legend and my go to for team morale is to arrange friendly games against lower opposition either side of training to gain fitness levels with rotated squads but also it helps build momentum for the league game end of week
I'm managing Curzon-Ashton and had a poor start and predicted to come 19th, switched to Route-One lump it to the target man and secured a top half finish at 11th, can't play football with these players unfortunately
I've found this level pretty hard on this year's game as well. My Curzon Ashton save has been a slog. A back 3 helped me finish 15th in the end, but I had an imposed points target before I managed to turn it around. (I also hated Fowler when I signed him) Break the wage budget- the Cup run pays for it.
Hey Kev Im managing Bradford PA from Vanarama North and it's brutal. Narrowly avoided relegation in the first season. Hang in there mate, hope you can figure it out with Leamington
Unsolicited advice: 1) Diamond formation, 2) drop lines to standard, 3) stop playing for set pieces, 4) rotate like mad because substitutes have good attitudes when they get a chance to play, 5) get a job in the lowest tier of Wales because Wales is awesome. 😁
On the saved game I'm doing, Lemington are top of the league all be it 8 games in, and my team who I manage are playing them next... Hopefully we can do them for you... As for your saved game, park the bus in all your games, and hope to snatch a 1. 0 victory here and their...
Definitely agree that it's time for a new goalie! Then I think you've got to drop to cautios/balanced counter attacking style, try and grab a few draws.
Hey Kev, found it good playing Curtzon Ashton so far (first club to offer me a job on huge database). Found I'm sorting wheat from the chaff by praising the players who are training and performing well keeping morale high, and giving them more game time then signing based on the players who seem invested vs players whose star rating might be better but their performance isn't up to snuff.
Having the same issue in my current save, winning on Xg all the time, but really bad Goalkeeper letting us down, conceding really weak goals. Feel your pain Kev.
Let the wingers cut inside and become AMCs or MCs, pull one or both of the current MCs back to DMC positions and let full backs bomb forward and pour crosses in. Win the second ball with the majority in the center and fire shots. I think...
I've just finished my first season with dorking managed to scrape through playoffs into vanarama national but it looks like I'm going straight back down. High tempo really really doesn't work at lower levels. Try a really slow route one tactic for first 75 mins then go higher tempo final 25 if losing
Don't know if this is allowed with the rules, but sure Southport's assistant manager is great. If you played them then you seen him in the dugout so technically you know of him and it's not staff searching. He would help massively.
You need to tighten up your midfield and defence. Right now your BWM is being left to handle the entire central midfield while your CM goes forward and your winger/WM goes wide. Plus you're playing with your FB's set to automatic in a positive mentality, which means they're both going forward too. Change one FB to support, the other to attack. Drop your mentality to balanced at home, cautious away. And get rid of the winger/WM or 2nd striker and use a DM instead. Something like this: AF(A) - TM(S) IW(A) CM(S) - CM(A) BWM(D) FB(S) CD(D) - CD(D) FB(A) GK(D)
I fought for enough draws last fm with wycombe after being bottom for most of the first 6 months using a 532 and stayed up final day might be a shout just to try be defensively solid and try get a player that can hit a good set piece with those 2 cbs attacking the balls. Maybe try offload the keeper cause if I remember he is one of the top earners and just bring a decent one and improve elsewhere.
How many of the teams you are facing are playing with 2 up front? You might do better with 3 CMs if you are consistently losing the midfield battle. xG only tells you how many goals you should score with average strikers. You may have below average strikers. Last suggestion, you could submit this to Zealand's saving saves :) Good luck.
I took over Southport in December bottom of the table and that's what I did. Survived and then got promoted the next season. I can send you the tactic if you want?
Try a 4-1-2-1-2 with a TF Pressing forward and a shadow striker it’s op I was in the same problem as you but this saved me and I went 9 games unbeaten and finished mid table
I'd definitely break the bank at this point. You definitely need to bring some new players in that are decent. Forgive me if I'm being thick but have you tried bringing through some of the players in U23s and U18s? Could be worth a punt?
First of all, you need a differt GK, lol. Then your other players seem to play alright so chance conversion training I guess and let the good players play together for some good connections on the pitch. Maybe a decent DM to give you a little bit of extra defensive power and try a 4 3 2 1 with a ball winning defensive midfielder and two wide inverted wingers and a target man. Just my suggestion
I'm running into a similar problem with Curzon Ashton. Things go well for the first third of the season and then the wheels fall off for seemingly no reason. Can't defend, can't score and nothing seems to help. :(
Why not try a 4-3-3 with a DM for extra defensive cover plus if your strikers aren’t scoring there’s no point in having 2 players not pulling there weight and hopefully the midfield and wingers could help you get back on track
Probably play with a cautious or defensive mentality rather than positive, considering the squad is a relegation-battle team. Should at least sure things up a bit more at the back. Combining this with the direct counter attack tactic should help you out. I haven’t seen it but I can’t imagine your tactical familiarity is all that great given you keep chopping and changing, that’ll obviously have these boys running round like headless chickens not knowing what to do. 442 or variation thereof is always good at this level so I wouldn’t worry too much about changing formation.
I am genuinely interested to see how the NL2L rules will play out in a scenario where you get sacked first season!! I know it's tough to play, but it's good viewing, and will make winning this league all the sweeter Kev!
After last year's game being far too easy, this is much more enjoyable watching you struggle as it will be interesting to see how things work out
33 games with Wrexham and 32 wins with 1 draw .... lost the FA cup quarter final vs Spurs 0-5 as the only defeat this season. Not sure it´s more difficult, the most important thing are not stats and tactics but team cohesion and overall happiness. I play a regular 4-4-2 gegenpress.

Yeh this game is much harder than last years
Is this year harder? Just wondering because im not sure whether my first save will be Wrexham or Braintree
@@jasonparker8389 last year I think Kev won back to back promotions with Kettering. Judging by the start of this season it definitely seems harder
I can't imagine what Weaver has on you that has kept him in goal this long 😂
NLTL is about the story. Ending up in Wales or Northern Ireland is definitely an interesting story.
i’m pretty sure that in the lower leagues of northern ireland there are no loan restrictions, so you can get a billion loan players in and get promoted super easily
Excited to see Kev rock up at some Northern Irish village team
I think you should play more defensive, 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 with DM and play with counter attacks, just to survive first season.
Playing defensive ? I don't think you know Kev very well lol
Oof. That was a pained "if you've enjoyed that". I've been managing Alfreton and had similar experiences, but thankfully I inherited two good strikers. And if he can absolutely blow teams out of the park offensively in lower leagues it would probably be effective
Is Zealand still doing his saving saves series?……………:D
👀
try changing your fullbacks left on support and right on attack. adding tackle harder and mark tighter
left would make more sense to be on attack given the inverted winger on that side, no?
@@TheWarwickshire no because you will leave your left wing exposed defensively better one support and attack on wing.
so much more entertaining to see a struggle on a save compared to having an easy pass as normal, this series might be the best yet
When all else fails, try a diamond. Since you don't seem to have anyone to play the AMC you could push that role to an attacking midfielder from central midfield flanked by two supporting midfielders and a DM playing deeper.
The best things are earned rather than given on a plate. Turning this around will feel sweet

Stay at the club though!
I think a 4-3-3 with a B2B, BWM and DLP would work well with the team. Drop one of the strikers and push the right winger up
Ive tried a save with Leamington with the 4-4-2. Went 6 without a win. Switched to 4-3-3 controlled possession and went 6 without defeat!
It looks as though the centre midfielders at Leamington simply aren't well rounded enough to play in a two
I like what many people are noticing about this years FM; lower leagues seem to be tougher! As much as I like seeing you win all the time Kev, it does make it more interesting when there’s a real struggle. You got this Kev!

Play an attacking target man, in non league they are cheap and very effective. Tom Denton is a legend!
I did think at the end you were going to say, 'if you've enjoyed that....you're a monster'

I’ve found scoring goals much more difficult this year, at lower levels anyway.
I’m sorry but it’s such a relief to see you struggling 🤣🤣… the beta looked like it was for FM beginners but good to see there’s still a challenge

03:40 is postionally identical to my Brackley formation 😅 couple of roles off but I had a proper deja vu! Keep it up Kev 👍
I'm half surprised Kev didn't pull the trick of saying "I meant this to happen, honest" while looking off camera nervously
playing along in a leamington save of my own and Weaver's conceded 5 in 8 with 4 clean sheets and on a 7.21 in the league
I haven’t laughed that much in a while, thank you. Enjoying the series 🤞things turn around can’t wait to see what happens next
just to rub salt in your wounds kev, i finished 4th 2 years running with leamington then moved on to halifax
Is it time to try 5 at the back with wide centre backs? 👀

Defensive tactic and go direct. Only way to turn that around

High tempo really really doesn't work at lower levels.
Try a really slow route one tactic for first 75 mins then go higher tempo final 25 if losing
kev you're describing my time at Curzon Ashton in this intro
Your definitely a modern day manager. " I need more players" 🤣
I can’t explain how fun it is to watch you struggle
Don't know if this is allowed with the rules, but sure Southport's assistant manager is great. If you played them then you seen him in the dugout so technically you know of him and it's not staff searching. He would help massively.
Back 3 Kev, need to get that defence sorted 😂😂😂
'We thought he was the second coming when he arrived' 😆😆
I feel your pain that's mostly what happens to me in all my saves but then I go to a new club and do better soo fingers crossed 😂🤞🤞
You need to tighten up your midfield and defence. Right now your BWM is being left to handle the entire central midfield while your CM goes forward and your winger/WM goes wide. I always try to learn little things from you Kev on FM so it's really interesting seeing you a bit befuddled. Hopefully the board give you time

xG doesn't take into consideration the position of the players taking the shot afaik
@@gliderdan3153 true. I was just assuming that the front two are taking most of the shots in this team.
Good to see some struggles! I think you should be stuck with the squad you have when you start!
5-4-1. Ultra-defensive. Just grind out as many draws as possible and hope to claw enough points to stay up. That's what I'd do.
One assumes you're already using team bonding and Community outreach in Training Kev?
4-4-2 with 2 tradional centre mids, one moving into channels and other getting stuck in, taking fewer risks, dlf and complete forward up top
Stuck with it Kev. If you go down then move on and see if you can rebuild in wales/ireland
Haha well I joined you with leamington, sacked in march. Tough save. Now at Braintree.
Lollujo historians will remember that Cedwyn Scott was Backing The Boro, not Non League To Legend 😉
Maybe just lower your defensive line. I normally don't do that but this match engine seems to work better with a lower line?
Got to try moving away from the press and stick to a direct counter. Not a great team so need to play like it
How do you get your squad view to show all columns without scrolling left to right?
I'd definitely break the bank at this point. You definitely need to bring some new players in that are decent.
Forgive me if I'm being thick but have you tried bringing through some of the players in U23s and U18s? Could be worth a punt?

Train set-pieces a lot, and launch long throws!
Keep going Kev, positives are it can only get better 😂
I am genuinely interested to see how the NL2L rules will play out in a scenario where you get sacked first season!! I know it's tough to play, but it's good viewing, and will make winning this league all the sweeter Kev!
It'll play out exactly as you would expect it to, if he gets sacked then he will look for another job
I did enjoy that, not gonna lie. Glee is after all the only true form of happiness.
Urm.. I'm too invested I need another episode 😩, I need to see what happens 😂 #weaverout
