Probably late by now but since no one else replied it: Tanjiro uses his hinokami breathing style which is a loose adaptation of the original sun breathing style from Yoirishi (the one the doll was modeled after) and it was passed down from parent to child over generations in tanjiro's family. Since it's the ORIGINAL breathing, from which all the other breathing techniques came out of, Tanjiro is more ADAPTED to learn the other techniques than others, and that's because he knows the "basics" of all other breathing techniques since the other breathing techniques are just more "specialized" forms. So when he did the "zoomies" attack at first, all he did was focus more on using his leg muscles vs other muscles, because that's what zenitsu ALWAYS focuses on because that's what zenitsu was TOLD/TRAINED to do. So it even shocked everyone there, and it wasn't a "deus ex machina" moment, but more of the fact that tanjiro already did do leg work, such as his water breathing style #9 to dancer around with light feet, and his hinokami style itself has things for leg work, that other breathing styles probably dont, so he just channeled his focus to his feet there, and THEN u can see in the animation that when he caught up to the upper moon 4, his "thunder" effect (animation only) went and changed into his fire breathing as he switched from running mode to swinging my sword mode. Later, in the last fight at sunrise, he needed to catch up again, but by now he's already remembered zenitsu's "focus on legs part" but he needed to be extremely offensive here, he has ONE chance as far as he knows so he used the thunderbreathing legwork style but less about super super speed mach 3 but more like super speed mach 1 or 2 (faster than normal running, but not as fast as zenitsu would) just enough to catch up so his fire breathing style was more prominent there because he know he needed more "umph" in the sword attack to cut the demon's head since he failed before. Basically Tanjiro is not a specialized person, but he adapts to the surprises along the way because he knows enough about different styles and didn't "tunnel vision" on a specific style... Hell, he even had to learn that lesson ACTIVELY during gyoraru's upper moon 6 fight when he needed to save tengen's favorite wife (look we all know she's the favorite, dont @ me bruh :P ) and learned already that "just using fire" exhausts him, and got his sword nicked, and using water style is more defensive to ward off blows but doesnt have strength enough with his body to cut that hand at the last second, so he adapted both TOGETHER. Most other swordsmen would either tunnel vision on a specific attack style or completely create a spinoff style "close enough but not really" to the parent style... tanjiro "nah, ima do mah own thangg" and merged them together, almost like he's reuiniting all the spinoff offchute styles back into their original sun breathing hinokami style from which they all came from. Think of it like a medical student studying General practioner doctor, and that doctor MAY specialize later down the road or be better at one thing vs the other, BUT that doctor would have decent coverage of the basics of all other doctors. VS a doctor who JUST studist dentistry for example or a heart surgery etc... ask those to go do anything related the brain or pregnancy or day-to-day life issues, and they may struggle much much more than a generalist who would be able to detour from their "knowledge" to learn "new knowledge" more. If you want to think sports, think of someone who learned dedicated boxing only, and ask them to do something more like Aikido... They'd probably struggle a bit more using a defensive fighting style than someone who's more of a kickboxing or karate mindset etc.
