    As an owner of an almost identical 1996 troopy and had the same issue with engine/road noise. I would recommend Underdog sound proofing the steel side panels, floors, wheel arches and doors. Made a insanely massive difference! The Underdog brand is actually much cheaper than other options but has actually a thicker rubber than other competitors such as killmat , I believe it costed around $500 usd to cover absolutely everything (even with some spare) it made a world of difference makes it not feel like your driving around inside of a garden shed anymore XD.
    The 75 series troopy is an insanely utilitarian focused vehicle, so easy to install any accessory especially regarding electronics. without all those wires and tech from factory it gives you so much space to fit solar, dual batteries, fridge etc and wire/set it it up how you want to do it. really is just a clean canvas, you find most issues can be fixed with an aftermarket accessory or some ingenuity.
    I also love the fact you (with a bit of know how) can fix almost every issue on your driveway or side of the road (personally have rebuilt an entire differential, uni joints, head gasket and dropped the transfer case/Gearbox in my frontyard lol) a friend told me one of his mates broke down in the middle of the outback in his troopy due to a timing belt issue only to have a local from the area (odviously knowledgeable in 1hz engines, probably a diesel mechanic from the mines) redo his timing belt on the side of the hwy!)
    Peace from the most isolated city in the world! Perth, Western Australia.

    I owned a 1996 Troopy for over 22 years and it travelled with my young family round Australia to some of the remotest places for 2 1/ 2 years towing an 25 year old old caravan that had to be welded and repaired 7 times The Troop carrier never broke down. It did snapped a set of wheel studs at about 20 years old. Be aware to never use an air operated impact wrench. Always use a tension wrench. Give the car a good No 2 cutting compound and a good polish that will help with the diesel smoke wash off easier. Enjoy the journey.

    i bought a 92 75 series troopy and because of the age im changing everything straight out the gate. Hasnt left me stranded but in order to avoid that happening i can only advise changing all the most important things first. All engine seals. rebuilt diesel pump. rebuilt h55. new radiator and water pump. The rest you should be golden. Sounds like a love hate relationship. Enjoy your truck and safe travels. Its unique by nature and hey at least there aint many on the road

    Sounds like you've had some bad luck mate. About 6 months ago I purchased a 1997 hzj75 troopy with 470,000kms. I've been left stranded only once so far when the clutch blew. But as you mentioned theres always constant maintenance involved with these old girls. I hope you have better luck going forward.

    Useful and honest review, thanks. Sort of considering buying one, but the upfront cost is a big negative now! Can you elaborate a bit on what went wrong when you had your breakdowns, would be useful to know, regards from NB

    I have a 100 series with the same engine and 250k miles on it. I love the truck, but the bottom line is that its expensive to maintain and keep. I think most of your "hate" 1 - 10 were about maintenance and upkeep. Hey we could all buy a VW golf and not worry about it - but we just love LCs and are prepared to pay the LC tax! All the best from Scotland.

    Nice list there Bud. Think I will share with our Troopys in Africa Group🤙. By the way they are like hens teeth here in Africa too. UN & Mines seem to be luck to get them. I was one of only 60 sold in 2021 & 2022.

    Most of the hate things are related to yourself than a fail of design of the vehicle. The love vs hate comparison is not objetive themselves, because most of the love features were actually design/manufacture relate. I own a 1986 BJ75 and I agree with many of the real things like how noisy is inside the cab or the harsh drive because of the basic suspension system.

      The things I don’t like about the vehicle are purely based on my own thoughts, feelings and opinions.. and I still don’t like them

    Great list. The dirt you talk about on the Troopy, isn't that normal 'road dirt'? I'm not sure it's possible to keep a vehicle 100% by using a high-pressure cleaner only without soap. I have a 1hz Troopy as well and a petrol Rav 4 and the dirt is the same on both. Try using soap and enjoy a cleaner trip all round :)

    • @allterraintrails
      @allterraintrails  Год назад

      Thanks for watching! The dirt we're referring to is the soot from the exhaust which covers the entire vehicle in a thin coating of black dust. The reason I mention this in the video is because I noticed it does not come off easily with a soapy pressure wash. This is obviously not an issue with petrol vehicles which I have found are much easier to keep clean.

      @shanedryden Год назад

      I know exactly the soot you are referring to and I get it on both my vehicles which are both white - one diesel and one petrol. It requires me to use a sponge and soap because the high-pressure cleaner doesn't work And my petrol never drives with my Troopy so there is no 'cross contamination' :) @@allterraintrails

    Your hood is completely bare. Insullate it with sound proof sticky stuff and put the OEM blanket on... Dampens a lot of low frequency noise.

    Did you ever do your cross canada trip. Put a good stereo in it to help with the noise.

    Interesting but to be fair many of the minuses you list are applicable to you, your vehicle, and your circumstances uniquely. Other hates are universal and not specific to Troopies - eg soot and grime. But we enjoyed your Canadian perspective and wish you many many more fun trips.

    Use a sponge when washing by hand, spare mechanical parts are cheap compared to other models. Wheel bearing are the same throughout the Landcruiser series etc 45’s ,60’s,80’s & 100 series, knuckles kits aren’t that expensive. The only parts that are overpriced are the panels. Sometimes it pays to shop on line. If you do the timing belt buy a good quality one which includes the water pump. You don’t need to go to the Toyota dealer to buy overpriced parts. By the sounds of things you not happy with the choice you made. Once you have completed the fit out in the back, upgrade your seats comfortable stylish good second hand ones with a console cooler then your vehicle will sound 100% better inside, not like a empty tin can. Another thing is diesel engines are more expensive to rebuild than petrol engines but the advantage is they have longer range when 4 wheeling. You can also turbo those engines but the key is don’t over boost them or turn the fuel up. A small tune is a best bet, no need for bigger injectors either

      Just an honest review of my experience so far 🤷🏻‍♂️ I live in Canada so I buy all of my parts online… no dealer support here. It’s expensive to ship parts. We’ve had a rough start with our ownership of the vehicle because many many parts needed replacement that I was not expecting. Things are going better now tho lately 👍🏼 I also have many things that I love about the vehicle. Maybe go back and give the first half of the video another listen 😄

      Look up Cruiser importing on the forum Ih8mud. That will break down every document you have to fill out once you find a Troopy to import, most important rule is it must be 25 years old from the month of manufacture.

    • @bigdifferencemusicgroup

      They have to be 25+ years old, and you can get them through a JDM importer.
