  • Declared Capacity (DC) and Scheduled Generation (SG) of Thermal Power Plant
Renewable power particularly solar and wind are dependent on prevailing weather patterns. For this, the generation is highly variable and to some extent less predictable. so, many thermal power generators are having little option but to adapt to more flexible operation though the thermal power plant are made for base load operation. This flexible operation of thermal power plant balance the grid. That means, the base load thermal power plant is runing with different load condition as and when required to balance the grid. Therefore, the term DC & SG comes.
DC- Declared Capacity: DC is the declared capability to deliver ex-bus generation to grid in a time block. The Ex-Bus generation is the difference between gross generation and Auxiliary Power Consumption or Auxiliary Energy Consumption.
SG- Schedule Generation: It is given by the load despatch centre to the power plant based on their DC. It could be equal or less than the DC. Based on declared capacity, the load despatch centre knows that how much a plant can generate. So according to consumer demand a load despatch centre will calculate considering economic generation and will provide SG to various thermal plants. SG is provided on a block basis, one block is of 15 minutes. So SG may change after 15 minutes.
DC & SG are explained nicely with example.
