- Hey Kids!
Thanks for the great response and comments about the Equinox album I love hearing from you and YES I read all your comments. So many of them I’d like to respond to but as I have said if I don’t answer every question someone will be miffed. And I have given up Miffing for lent. When is lent? That is not a serious question, so all Catholics at ease. I used to give up Oreo’s. And no meat on Fridays. Thank goodness that ended...Mrs. Paul fish sticks...no thanks.
Back to the point Dennis. This is a link to a video I did for Energie a Montreal radio group earlier this year. In three days it received 200,000 views on their Facebook page. Quebecer’s like this tune, they’re very smart. As you know they gave Styx their first platinum album and made us into bonafide headliners in Canada. Selling out concerts in every hockey arena in Canada. My toes are still a little numb. Originally I was going to post this on the 4th of July but I chickened out because I wasn’t sure if I liked my performance enough. See I rarely have had to play the ostinato and sing at the same time because it’s always played on guitar. It ain’t easy. It’s raw and real like BOT at home so here it is in all its natural no frills honesty. The garb is me sucking up to all mes amis au Quebec.
The performance is first but if you have time I talk about the writing of the song afterwards. Have a listen to what for many is their favorite Styx song.
Cheers America America America America!

Lyrics:
Time after time I sit and I wait for your call
I know I'm a fool but why can I say
Whatever the price I'll pay for you,
Madame Blue
Once long ago, a word from your lips and the world turned around
But somehow you've changed, you're so far away
I long for the past and dream of the days with you,
Madame Blue
Suite Madame Blue, gaze in your looking glass
You're not a child anymore
Suite Madame Blue, the future is all but past
Dressed in your jewels, you made your own rules
You conquered the world and more, heaven's door
Oh
America, America, America, America
America, America, America, America
America, America, America, America
America, America,… More - Видеоклипы
Styx cannot be Styx without Dennis DeYoung.
They can and they are 🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️
Never. Which is why they haven't had a hit since he left. The other guy, bless his hard, hits all the right notes with basically all the same timing, but there is just something missing -- the guy who wrote the words and music and originally sang them live.
I never get tired of Suite Madame Blue
No reverb... no delay... no effects.... impressive!!!! True talent
And no AutoTune!
DDY you still are the man and Lawrence Gowan doesn't even come close to your greatness,You are Styx and always will be 👍👍
While I agree he is and always will be great, I’ve been a Gowan fan since the early 80’s, and have seen him perform with Styx, and he was wonderful too.
God bless Dennis …..the real spirit behind Styx, and great composer 🍻 (hello from Montreal)
This guy is unbelievable his voice at his age so refreshing to hear him in these trying times
Hey Dennis... you’ve conquered the world and more. Thanks for your incredible songs and that ageless voice.
Dear Dennis, Thank you for helping my son find his voice. My son has autism. He is now 10 years old and he loves Styx. He didn’t talk until he was five.
He loves “Come Sail Away” and we listen to the song every day. My son sang before he could talk. Every time he wears his Styx tee, he gets so many compliments. 🙏🏻❤️
So wonderful

This story made me emotional, thank you for sharing ❤
@@ScruffySqueegee :Thank YOU❤️
In January 2017 I was so excited to go to my first Styx concert in Reno. I was really hoping to hear Dennis sing "Show me the way". Well I soon realized that Dennis was no longer touring with the band. The current band was just OK , but nothing of it's former self. I felt disappointed and cheated because of that one beautiful song that I'd gone for to hear in the first place. Show me the way speaks volumes about my life and my faith.
You know what......I want to say something else. Thank you for your music. It’s been the sound track of my life. I’m 50 years old and I have an older brother who loves your music and my earliest childhood memories are of hearing Styx because he was listening to you guys all the time. And still to this day your music is a gigantic part of my life. Your music has touched my life more than you can ever imagine. Thank you.
Ditto. Me, too. I’m 53 and have been listening to Styx and Dennis since Equinox. My oldest brother was 14 years older than me and he had that album. He lost interest in them, but I never did. I hate what Tommy and JY have done to Dennis, but that’s another story.
@@sonofagunn1967 Me three. I loved KWH and a high school buddy of mine, who had Stygian blood coursing through his veins, said if I liked Kilroy wait until I heard the rest of their albums! He was right and I've had Stygian blood coursing through my veins and heart ever since 1983 and listen to Styx in some capacity just about every day. Your music indeed lifts our hearts and helps us to carry on through these less than the best of times. Thank you Dennis!
@@Vaelsung1 while Kilroy was probably my “least favorite” album, it was still a really good album. Tommy and JY have really (in my eyes) failed to see how valuable the theatric themes Dennis created were. It really catapulted them as a band.
Amen, brother or sister.
Agreed, amen!
Nothing better than uncle Dennis at home singing to us during a pandemic. I may just make it after all this felt so good.
whats a mother to do?...,,lol love you denn
if i make a list of songs that this man sang, and are songs from my past and from my future.. how can you not love this guy?
I love Dennis Deyoung! And I think it's cool that he is still rockin!, after all these years. It's a gift that he has from Almighty God. 👍
Dennis, is such a gifted singer and talent. No disrespect for Springsteen fans, but you have to admit he sounds constipated!
I'm 57 and read many a headline that implied we were in the worst of times: Vietnam, Presidential assassination attempts, a 747 shot down, the Desert Storm Conflict, 9-11, COVID (which I got & survived...Wave 3B Upswing, December '20). So much history...but Dennis made this one feel like The Best of Times.
He held that note for 21 seconds. He is amazing still at 73. He sings so beautifully. If you have not seen his band and concert, when COVID goes away, let this be your first ticket and I guarantee you will be amazed.
No doubt. August is great
That was unbelievalbe.. As you said he is 73 years old..how many of his contemporary rock legends that age can sing with the clarity tonality and projection power of Dennis De Young ? I can't really think of any that come to mind.
Saw them just before he left the band, great show !!!
I saw him in 97 before he left Styx...Amazing! I had tickets to see his solo tour here in Austin. Fourth row! The show was cancelled because of COVID. So bummed.
@@edwardvaca2627 I had tickets for Amarrilo and they were rescheduled twice. I had to wait a year but Finally they came and I saw them this month.
Every 4th of July when watching the fireworks in the neighborhood I crank this song up.
Pretty crazy, held that note for over 20 seconds. In 2020!!!
I actually measured it on a previous album (and a much younger DdY) at 45 seconds ...
@@deplorablepatriot8605 He is amazing. Singing, keyboards, & songwriter.
DeYoung, probably the best male vocalist there has ever been. I can’t even imagine what it would have been like without the mighty Styx in my life since 1976. Thank you.
Written about America back in the 70's. Who would have known how much it means about America today!
Especially the Blue part.
Lift up your heart and make a new start!
I played this song over and over on Election Day.

I grew up on "paradise theater". You are still simply amazing 👏 God bless. 🙏
Dennis DeYoung has more talent in his little toe than entire groups of established artist have in their collective bodies. I am AMAZED at his ability to exude creative abilities seemingly effortlessly.
Kudos Dennis! This song is timeless & the message it carries is more relevant today than ever! Long live our US Constitution. The envy of the world. ❤
Best Styx song ever by one of the best singers ever. This song is special to me due to my father being on the Bataan Death March and a Japanese POW for 3 1/2 years. Thank you Mr DeYoung for creating this masterpiece.
Living near Montréal and seeing you with a " Québec " sweater with a " CH " baseball hat is so awesome !! I heard you many times saying that Québec was the starting point of your success and now you are kind of thanking us. Nice that y
ou didn't forget us and we certainly didn't forget you. STYX in our province was and still popular on our radio waves. Hearing " suite madam blue " live at the forum was quite an experience my friends. Standing ovation lasted many minutes after the song . Personally, " Come sail away " is my favorite one. Hope you stay healthy for a long time . Merci beaucoup Dennis Young.
Suite Madame Blue and Crystal Ball, two of the greatest progressive rock anthems ever written! Thank you.
Crystal ball was written by Tommy
@@anyainc'Crystal Ball was written and sung by Tommy. That doesn't make it any less of a great song. Nor does a great song by Tommy diminish the talent and contribution of Dennis to Styx. I'm one in the camp that wants to see him as part of a Styx concert.
@@dougwalter9691 Doug, that was my point man
@@dougwalter9691 in this video context he his right, CB is not a song from Dennis, and bringing his name up on his youtube channel is not welcome.
Styx nowadays are like Kiss….just a tribute band without the ORIGINAL members.
The sooner you accept the truth, the better you will feel 🍻🤞🍻
‼️‼️‼️What a brilliant , beautiful , talented , person. Always , have loved , Dennis DeYoung since the 1970's. A very special person. ‼️👍❤️
You sir, Are Styx! What a performance.
Man what a gift this is from a living legend.
Your a amazing musician and inspiration Dennis!
Thanks Dennis so very very much for singing Suite Madame Blue for us. It brought nostalgic tears to my eyes. I was a 10 year old when you came came to Toronto and performed this as part of your Equinox tour. It was one of the great thrills of my life frankly. I saw you each and every summer for the following handful of years, as Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight and Cornerstone LPs dominated my record player at home. Styx had a LOT of stiff competition back in those days, but you remained one of my favourites throughout. I think Suite Madame Blue is Styx's greatest song and I often listen to it, even to this day. I totally "get" the America allegory that motivated you, but the song also pulls the emotional strings of reflecting back on a teenage sweetheart one once held an intense passion for. The song's structure is so very sexual with it's soft beginning, great rhythms and intense climax, followed by a quiet move to sleep. The great thing after all these years is that it is clear this song means a lot to you too.
For me, this song has a unique meaning I would like to share with you Dennis. Throughout my teenage years, I was intensely infatuated and in love with this gal who was my classmate. I actually first met her in grade 5, the very same year this song was released and I attended the concert. However she became very popular and my love for her went unrequited, but we were friends. At the time, when listening to Suite Madame Blue, I imagined that one day, in the distant future, once she had aged and was no longer desired by the average guy, she would see me in a different light - that as a mature woman she would see the true value in me. "Gaze at your looking glass, you're not a child anymore." So in this song i held my hope for a future with her. 40 to 45 years later, I've had a very successful career, never married, and never have stopped loving her. That gal reached out to me a few years back after decades of going our own way. She's happily married and has a wonderful family. We reminisce and she shares fond memories of me, even admitting that she quite admired me - my character etc. - back in those days. I don't know if she fathoms how fond those memories of our casual friendship are for me. Although she never directly says it, it's almost like she's reflecting on how we could have been great together. I'm not sure I could handle her actually saying that, so best it becomes part of the dream I suppose. I never had the courage to tell her how I felt about her, and although I would have such courage today - I would marry her in a heartbeat - I wouldn't want to disrupt the life she has built with her family. So the irony in your song Suite Madame Blue is that the dream it provided me 45 years ago by looking into the future, somehow lingers to this day, looking into the past but still dreaming of a future. Unrequited love with just a trace of hope and a whole lot of nostalgia. It's a very special song for me with a great deal of emotion tied to it. AND, it is one hell of a tune!
"Once, long ago, one word from your lips and the world turned around, but somehow you've changed - you're so far away - I long for the past, and dream of a day with you, Suite Madame Blue."
"Time after time, I sit and I wait for your call. I know I'm a fool, but what can I say? Whatever the price, I'll pay, for you, Suite Madame Blue."
BTW I went and saw Styx not long ago with Gowan, a local Toronto favourite. A nice walk down memory lane. Gowan does your songs justice, but man it's just not quite the same without you. Thanks for such a beautiful song.
My father swears he heard your father play at a Chicago lounge years and years ago. My dad told me that he was the most incredible musician and was in awe when he performed. Thought I would share and hope it was a true story. Dennis, your talent is God given and I am sure your dad is beaming in heaven. God Bless!! You are truly a gift from God!
@Mark O'Brian Dennis is going to appreciate your reference to his father beaming down on him from heaven. He looked up to his Dad.
AMAZING!!! I was 9 years old in 76 when I 1st heard STYX that album. I’m still a HUGE DDY and STYX fan! Awesomeness!
Jeez! 45 years since it was recorded and Dennis belts it out perfectly. Amazing.... 💪😎👌
Hard to believe my first record ever was Paradise Theater back in 1981 when I was six. Now 40 years later, I still drop that needle and go back to a more simpler time.
Growing up with hard times, poverty and heartbreak, the music of Styx and DDY's Desert Moon help lead me through. Whether it was just listening to them en route to school or trying to forget about a hungry night, Styx helped me believe there was a better life waiting for me and to hold on a little longer.
You’re not alone @MrDarkHawk1972 , I’ve been there too and as a mature man who grew up loving the motivational music of Styx, I learned to befriend hard times, overcame poverty by deciding to take Initiative in my jobs and progress and heartbreak from love all have made me stronger.
Montréal Loves Dennis DeYoung & Styx, and we came on board early!!! One of my early thrills as a teenage concert-goer was seeing Styx and Bad Company on a double-bill at the Montréal Forum, on Monday, April 19, 1976. Officially, Styx opened for Bad Company. For us Montréalais, however, Styx was certainly the main act. Dennis DeYoung’s rendition of “Suite Madame Blue” was the biggest highlight of the evening! Great to see Dennis the lifelong Blackhawks fan wearing Canadiens team garb from Montréal, Québec! We remain big fans!
Just made my day!!!!! Thank you Dennis for singing to us. God Bless!!
Wish I could sing like this. I grew up with Styx
this is not a song only about America, it could be in any country world wide . I live in the Netherlands and for me this is the ultimate song of hope , thanks Dennis
One of my all time hero's singing one of my all time favorite songs thanks for all of the greatness over the years Dennis.
I was never a huge Styx fan, but I must say, Dennis still sounds damn good after all these years.
My favorite Styx song. God Bless you Dennis. I'll see you again when you come back to NorCal.
In my perfect world.. One Night.. "Styx Unplugged". Bring all the original living members together for one night.. Dennis, J.Y. , Tommy ,Todd on drums and of course our beloved Chuck..
Even if it never happens.. I can dream.. So can you..
I'll be there in the front row - and even being retired on a fixed income - at ANY cost --my favorite band since 1970 (TW4), senior prom 1972),a nd 25-30 shows since. even though it's like seeing Paul McCartney it's not the Beatles but fans can't control what is available to us - so seeing Dennis solo or Styx without Dennis is better than not seeing either.
Thanks Dennis, many of us cut our rock and Roll teeth on songs like this. You are a legend.
Dennis IS the voice of STYX! Sounds GREAT!
Dennis DeYoung you are a 1st class act sir. I am very sorry that JY and Tommy Shaw spoke ill of you on that interview with Dan Rather last year. Can you imagine Dennis if Styx would have never broken up? Where would you be now?.Ican tell that you have forgiven them for all of the grief and drama they caused you. I wish JY and Tommy would let the hate go. I pray you are well for this new year in 2021. Please don't stop the music!! Carry on my friend!! Take Care, DS of the Southern Flight Band
My favorite Styx song. "This Old Man " is second. Dennis is awesome. These songs should have gotten more air play. When all the members of Styx worked together they were untouchable. The Queen of Spades and Song for Suzanne are stellar also.
Your one of a kind Dennis, and it's so nice to hear you "live" in your own home! You filled our youth with dreams and visions of better tomorrows! I say that confidentially because you truly had a gift. Thanks my friend, and blessings for a brighter tomorrow. 2021
I can hear still hear that song coming out of my Jensen Triax II speakers back in the 70's after I tinkered with the equalizer a bit ! Thanks for decades of wonderful tunes D !
I had those in my Nova , my first car
Wow the Jensen Triax II’s!! I had forgotten about those. Had them in speaker boxes in my 77 Chevy Scottsdale. I remember paying about $120 for them in about 1981. That would probably be about $700 today! But we didn’t care. We had to have great sounding jams in our vehicles!!
Those were in the back of my 1979 Datsun 210. Pioneer KE5100 with a 100 watt power booser equalizer. They could hear me before they see me. Possibly why I can't hear so good today. Styx was some of the music belting thru.
Mine are in my basement. I'm afraid to get them out of the box to see if they work. Love to look at them and remember those days though.
Had the Triax II's also back then. Dennis, great as always, probably my favorite song of yours. I don't think the songs Pieces of Eight & Queen of Spades get enough recognition. You are the heart & soul of Styx sir, thank you!
Sounding great Dennis one of the best rock voices of all time
Hasn’t fade the change of times, still very much like in the 70’s. What a talent. Legend, Icon. DDY.
You have ALWAYS been my favorite in the music industry. Your gift from God Almighty is something else!!! THANKS! 🦊😎🌈🕛🔥
Back around the time this song came out I was in High School and working for a body shop. I had just finished a 3 year restoration of a 69 Chevy Malibu that I painted a dark metallic blue and I just had to get a personalized licence plate that read "SM BUE", a play on words of Madam Blue and Malibu.
Du Quebec, je vous salue! Merci de donner de la visibilité au Quebec. Vous chantez toujours aussi bien! Votre voix est extraordinaire. Merci de continuer à chanter. Que Dieu vous bénisse aussi...
Dennis, your voice brings back a world that is now only a distant memory, but was a time that we can all say we were proud to be a part of. Very few bands earned the rights to remain in our consciousness but Styx was one of them. Rock on forever man!
Dennis, you are amazing greattttttttt....I hope we can have you for everr
Thank you for raw and unfiltered Dennis DeYoung. 💗 I so enjoy listening to you sing. Please never stop.
Yes Dennis, my favorite Styx song!! I am a piano player and really made my day hearing this all piano version! I'm 58 so I saw you guys more in concert, still have the original albums! I have CD's of all of them too! I was 14 years old when I started listening and going to concerts. Tommy Shaw sat in the floor at the old Charlotte NC Coliseum with just a blue light on him playing the prelude! What a memory! Thanks for sharing! From South Carolina!
Dennis - you are a treasure. It is truly a privilege to listen to you.
Thank You Dennis!
My favorite Styx song of all time!
Wonderful, bravo , bravo America, America 👏🙌👏👏👏👏👏🙏🇺🇸thank you
Thanks for taking the time to explain how Madame Blue was created. I have enjoyed listening to this song for the last 45 years. You are a fantastic musician! Stay well!
You are the legend....... Nobody can replace your voice!
Hi Dennis! Keep these coming, the world needs them! Your voice still sounds amazing and the commentary on the song is the icing on the cake! I’ll wear my Bicentennial underpants for the next one. Much love and many more exclamation points to you!!!!!
I absolutely love your voice! The best! I was a teenager in the 70s.Your voice and the music of Styx gave me goose bumps and I could come to tears as well as rock out! Still has that effect on me today! Thank you for your contribution to the best rock on Earth!
As a Montrealer that's attended many of your concerts, you're welcome and thanks for wearing the #Habs cap :)
I was liek13 years old, at the Paradise Theater tour at the Montreal Forum!
Dear Mr. DeYoung. Yo made so many good songs but to me Suite Madam Blue is your masterpiece. Every time i listen I sense it as true Americam anthem. Thanks for all your music you made for the people.
Could listen to you tell your stories all day.
When I listened to it the first time back in the day I thought you were talking about the Statue of Liberty and referring to her as an allegory. It just made sense to me that you would use her to make your incredible point about the country and how we became powerful but lost our way. I love the song very much and when you look at the Statue in a certain light, she does look blue.
Dennis, you are a frickin' treasure. Thanks for helping me through the 80's. Rock on.
You've been slacking Dennis how about some more, just love your from home work and keep the stories coming, love ya!
Dennis
I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and was a teenager when Styx entered my life. Through the years I’ve owned your music on Vinyl, 8 Track, Cassette, CD and now Digitally. Yes it’s that good!!!
Thank you.
One of my all time favorite songs and best Styx’s song. 👍👍👍
What a talent. I have very fond memories of the Kilroy was here tour at the Montreal Forum. Bless you Dennis. (Or as we say in Quebec "Merci De knee")
Man, Dennis your voice sounds so great. You have such great control of your air. Just great.
Incredibly talented.

I am a huge Styx fan since the '70's. I saw you guys twice. Equinox is a great album. Suite Madam Blue is one of my favorite songs. Dennis, you sound great for being in your 70's. Amazing.
Hi Dennis ...saw you at my very first concert in Toronto with Styx backing up Bad company...and Styx stole the show ...only to come back a year later as headliners ....LOve Styx ...love You and see Styx any chance I get (pre-pandemic ) hopefully post Pandemic as well.....Keep on writing great songs ! You take my breath away. THAT NOTE!!!!!!!! Dennis, I started to watch this a few days ago, but didn't have time to watch in its entirety. I do now. WOW.
I'm spellbound. Snowblind. 💙💙💙💙💙
For me, Dennis DeYoung IS Styx and all the others were supporting acts to him. Almost all of Styx' songs that I REALLY like have been written by him. After Styx went their separate ways after Kilroy Was Here, I basically quit listening to them because Dennis' creative touch just wasn't there in the music and it didn't have the zeitgeist or je ne sais quois that made all the music from Styx so good! Sadly, I doubt there will ever be another group like Styx. Thank you Dennis! Your run with Styx was phenomenal! You will always be one of my most favorite musicians ever, and the Styx line-up that ran from Equinox through Kilroy Was Here!
Thank you Dennis,from Quebec
That was suite!!!! How the hell could the "other" "Styx" dudes not be begging you hands and knees back is so confusing!
U rock Dennis! Thank you!
Dont go back Dennis....
Because of Babe
I totally agree with those who say that you truly have one of the greatest voices in Rock History, Dennis!
At 73 years young you can still sing and play piano, as if you were 25. What a testament to your taking care of yourself so that younger generations can hopefully see you live in concert, along with us long time fans. At this very moment, I have the Equinox CD in my car and have been playing it over and over because it makes me feel happy and optimistic during this awful crisis that our country, as well as the world, is currently facing. Thank you again so much for your music and for your words of wisdom, Dennis.
Watching these videos is like sitting down with your grandpa and having him just reminisce about "the old days" and the lessons we should have learned.
Thank You Dennis. You impressed me today with your words...performance and truthfulness. Merry Christmas to you ans your loved ones. I saw Styx twice without you in the 2000s. Thank you for your music.
Simply the greatest. Know Dennis, know Styx. No Dennis...no Styx. Thank You Doctor for doing this!!!!
@Brenda Herzog I love this slogan- right spot on. Truth be told! The Truth shall set us free!

Dennis can still hold that note..."More.........for a really long time....wow.....just an awesome singer and person. I love his music since I was a teenager....I'm 50 now....
Have ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!! “CLASSIC” doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Thanks Dennis. Great singing and playing. The song stands the test of time. Thanks for posting!! 70's and 80's Styx means so much ti me!
So talented.... magical!! Thanks
Dennis, thank you for Suite Madame Blue. It remains one of the very best songs I have ever heard performed live by any band. It is really that good and a sonic adventure when enjoyed live. Then there are the lyrics ....unbelievable.
This has been my favorite Styx song since 1981 in 7th grade. Additionally it is on my 3 favorite songs by any band of all time. Never had a clue what the true meaning was. So thoughtfully crafted. Beautiful. Thank you so much for making this video and letting us hear it in its original piano format. It was definitely a first.
For some reason this song has always brought me to tears. My favorite Dennis DeYoung (Styx) song. No one has the talent to write deep meaningful songs any longer. This song is sad but hopeful and you are a musical genius who only keeps getting better. I saw your show in Denver, it was fantastic. Thank you for your presence and words that inspire.
I wasn't familiar with it and now I am sitting here in a giant puddle of tears after listening to this beautiful song
@Steve Miller ok thanks! Going to look now
