I think some of y’all who are expecting Weeknd’s old music are out of your minds lol. This guy is 30 years old now. He’s matured so much from his Trilogy days that it would actually be kinda fake for him to make “dark music” when he’s so passed those days, all because his fans want that sound back. His best music now is gonna be dark pop/alternative R&B that can be seen as mainstream. I, for one, actually appreciate Weeknd’s versatility and his creativity in using new sounds and production while still bringing back elements of darkness or rawness.
I get where both sides come from. I personally would like the PR&B instrumentals he used to get on. He could use same subject matter over those records where he sampled Portishead, Beach House and The Smiths and so on and so forth. I do love the trap influence and 100% the 80’s synths but the early instrumentals were what drew myself and I’m sure a bunch of fans to him. Would love a good album sounding like that while not escaping the themes he presented recently
Mustafa T the sound would nit be mainstream if it wasn’t for the weeknd to begin with. No one should Knock him for riding his own wave. I think this next album should be something he never did before. He has the ability to go absolutely insane and drop an undeniable classic i believe

The album like The Weeknd says has elements of love, loneliness, light, and darkness. I really like it and I hope my interpretation makes sense story wise but I think you can listen to the album as a story and as just music. I like it but I like Mac and Dons album more.
IMO this album was put together so cohesively which makes it great, it just flows so well. Mixing and production is amazing, the dark and heavy synths. I understand why some people might not like the strong 80’s pop influence. It’s NOT BAD, just not everyone’s cup of tea. I loved it though, definitely an 8 or 9 out of 10 for me !
It would be a ten if he explored different, more experimental and crazy production. Some of the production is very similar and kind of safe like Shawn said. If he was a little more detailed in the lyrics too, but he is not comfortable with going that deep as said in the songs so thats okay.
Strong 8 light 9 for me but yeah I agree, although a lot of similar production techniques were used on many songs, everything feels very cohesive and still sounds pretty great, especially the second half of the album

As bright as the album sounds, when putting it into context with the rest of his discography and his life, it just radiates a feeling of burnout and desperation and I fucking love it
Even though I feel like The old Weeknd died with the Starboy era, this is probably his best album. I wasn’t happy about the increase in 80’s vibes at first but it grew on me overtime. If y’all want the old Weeknd back go to his tour when the quarantines over and listen to the old projects 🤷🏽♂️
How can you not play Blinding Lights right after hearing that absolute GOAT transition drom Faith😭 Blinding Lights is just simply the greatest song of our generation.
There’s usually a standout track in terms of sticking in your mind and from this album it’s “in your eyes” might not be the most dynamic but it’s the one that stays in your mind after listening to the whole album
I feel like you gotta take a project like this as individual from his older stuff, you can’t expect him to be writing the same exact music almost a decade later
I see I am the only one who loved the starboy album. I loved that 80s elcectronica /pop vibe throughout. This album is having a similar vibe of the 80s synth pop.
“I want another trilogy” so were you people the same person 10 years ago? Smh, hating on this album cause it isn’t Trilogy dark vibes is just stupid. But y’all love that Eternal Atake shit eh?
SpurOfMoment nah man, stop. Trilogy will be his best work of art ever. This is a close second. Nothing has touched Trilogy, you look like a fool saying that.
@@rileymyles2588 Your opinion is entirely subjective but I do agree that people need to move on. I feel like people only care about an artist's earliest work.
moonhead538 I can bet you 100k that if The Weeknd kept doing trilogy vibe music that people would be saying “he needs to switch it up, this is boring now” etc. I understand my point is subjective because any opinion when it comes to music is subjective, but that’s exactly how it would be. Just have to appreciate music for what it is not what you think it should be.
YOUR review was the best out of all the people I watched. I like how you approached this in an unbiased manner and I agree with everything you said, other people were just hyping every song without actually reviewing the album
O. W. Lmao y’all have bad taste this album was overhyped and trash. 7/10 at best. Post Malone and Roddy Ricch has way better albums. Also don toliver was better too.
I love this album so much. I feel like he mixed his experimental Trilogy era with the Starboy era. Oneohtrix Point Never helped out with Repeat After Me with Tame Impala, and was a primary producer of Until I Bleed Out. I really want these two to work more in the future.
10/10 for me. I listened to this album before watching reviews. I'm someone who loves 80's music. It's like The Weeknd made this just for me who was always crossing my fingers hoping he'd embrace that sound a bit more. Well, he did and it made my day. I love the synth pop, the futuristic vibes, that Rnb, jazzy feel, that atmospheric sound. Ugh! It was beautiful! This is perfect for Halloween season. And the story was so coherent, every song made sense as well as the ordering of the tracks. Liked this as much as Janelle Monae's "The ArchAndroid". Any album that can take me on an adventure will always get high scores from me as well as using a variety of genres and sounds.

Kevin Rosas Thanks bro 🙌🏽
Kevin Rosas right
Thanks man
I don’t wanna be safe 🖕🏿
You too
As bright as the album sounds, when putting it into context with the rest of his discography and his life, it just radiates a feeling of burnout and desperation and I fucking love it
og weeknd vibes know that after hours is just a kiss land and starboy baby.
Snowchild and Faith be hitting different🔥💯
Snowchild definitely for me
The last line of faith..fuck.
Even though I feel like The old Weeknd died with the Starboy era, this is probably his best album. I wasn’t happy about the increase in 80’s vibes at first but it grew on me overtime. If y’all want the old Weeknd back go to his tour when the quarantines over and listen to the old projects 🤷🏽♂️
this man can't drop a bad song. i'm like so fucking amazed by his talent, he deserves the world
Shawn looking buff man
Gotta compensate for the lack of legs
@@genesisosuna Now ain't THAT the truth
How can you not play Blinding Lights right after hearing that absolute GOAT transition drom Faith😭 Blinding Lights is just simply the greatest song of our generation.
Hardest to love sounds like it should be a Kingdom Hearts song during a montage cut scene
SOMEBODY UNDERSTANDS!

The whole set from Heartless to After Hours is just simply some of the best i’ve heard in all of music.
There’s usually a standout track in terms of sticking in your mind and from this album it’s “in your eyes” might not be the
most dynamic but it’s the one that stays in your mind after listening to the whole album
I feel like you gotta take a project like this as individual from his older stuff, you can’t expect him to be writing the same exact music almost a decade later
Hardest to love is something I didn't think I'd like but I fell in love with it
Expecting a trilogy type album is selfish to ask as a fan because he’s older now. So I’ll take the Batman vibe
The Weeknd keeps dropping albums on The Friday, I'm confused.
so you can listen to it over the weekend
Jaden Patel ahhhhhhh
Thats when the weeknd begins!
This is way better than Trilogy. Trilogy was 80% duds
SpurOfMoment nah man, stop. Trilogy will be his best work of art ever. This is a close second. Nothing has touched Trilogy, you look like a fool saying that.
RileyMyles Facts
Weeknd set the bar high fr. Easily AOTY so far.
Exactly
O. W. Eternal atake still has AOTY atm
@@danny28320 ea is a 6-7 for me ngl
Heaven or Hell is AOTY lmao no skips on that joint.
O. W. Lmao y’all have bad taste this album was overhyped and trash. 7/10 at best. Post Malone and Roddy Ricch has way better albums. Also don toliver was better too.
I like the 80s feel to the album like the classic vibe is a mood
Top 3 album for The Weeknd one of his best IMO, this album as a bit of everything for everyone.
been waiting for this all day
O thought it was more like he ODed and the blinding lights are coming from an ambulance
Marco Acuña yeah i thought it was something to do with the lows then highs then lows of the process of taking drugs
When he said Jai Paul.... I gotta flashback of some crazy memories. Dude was so ahead of his time... :(
this guy doesn’t like the songs that all slap
Honestllly every song that’s my fav were the ones he hated 💀
Fax lol 😂
The Ceeknd
First time I’ve seen soundproof walls being useful
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS DAD :)))
never clicked so fast
your channel are always my go-to when an artist i like drops an album, great reviews c:
WHAT?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?! THIS ALBUM IS EASILY A 10/10
Shawns gonna give this a 9 or 10 I’ll come back when I finish
👀👀👀
well damn
This is the first review where i agree with Shawn almost 100%
Hardest to love into scared to live is a bit of a transition
It's a amazing transition, when I first heard it, I was freaked out a lil bit lol
I love this album so much. I feel like he mixed his experimental Trilogy era with the Starboy era. Oneohtrix Point Never helped out with Repeat After Me with Tame Impala, and was a primary producer of Until I Bleed Out. I really want these two to work more in the future.
Bro I got goose bumps Just hearing it over and over Xotwod
Loved your reaction to “in your eyes”!! I like the way you analyzed it!
That Cali line on Snowchild godamnnnnnnnnn. Love it. Loved Faith as well, Metro Boomin kills it as always man, every beat he touches turns to gold.
