dumb gal Actually not really. If it were to be a no-holds barred fight, which FNFs are, then Gandalf/Olorin would win. He's the Wisest of the Istari and post-Balrog, the strongest. And he wasn't allowed to use his powers to its full potential in Middle Earth because they were ordered not to interfere and hence their powers were restricted. If he were to unleash it, his divinity would be far more powerful than Dumbledore's magic. As a Maiar, he's almost similar level as Sauron, who is stronger than Voldemort, who is stronger/equal to Dumbledore. After all, he's only a man. Also, Dumbledore's already dead. Also, I wasted 2mins of my life on a RUclips comment.
Man that's a tough call. Because Gandalf clearly wins in the wizard part of the match up, but Voltron is the clear superior warrior in the robot match up. I'd hate to see Gandalf lose, but I don't think he has anything powerful enough to combat Voltron. I mean five individual lion robots would be powerful enough, but the combined power of them joined up to form Voltron? I don't think it could be beaten by Optimus alone. Not without the help of other Autobots. I gotta give this one to Voltron and Dumbledore. Though Dumbledore is likely to be squished pretty quickly, Voltron makes up for it by miles.
This has to be the best line up of FNF yet, I'm actually interested in who wins, but I have to say, I can't go against Mr. Gandolf, he's the best wizard there is.
very funny battle, I applaud Colbert for making it. However, nerds will find some things which are not strictly true. First, Optimus can fly, as we saw in TF3 and the TF Prime series. Second, Optimus has been much bigger than a truck in the anime TF Energon, he was as big as a mountain actually, to fight Unicron, who is planet-sized. These are big bots pacman emoticon Third, I'd add that Prime has been known to defeat combiners such as devastator and in animes has been seen to combine himself with other bots. With all that stated I think that Prime takes this. About the wizards, nothing Dumbledore has achieved comes even close to the angelic abilities of Gandalf. So - Prime/Gandalf for the win!
If Voltron is really being driven by five Hogwarts students, I'm going to have to give the victory to team Gandalf Prime. Magic kids don't have a lot of experience with electronics. Even if we give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were five muggle-born witches and/or wizards hand-picked by Dumbledore because they're also tech-savvy, they're still five British kids trying to coordinate in a giant robot they can't have too much experience in. Meanwhile Optimus is an experienced veteran of battles and has taken down opponents larger than himself before.
This is pretty damn even. I mean Gandalf is obviously a better wizard than Dumbledore, but Voltron is easily more powerful than Optimus Prime. However, since Dumbledore lives in a time with electronics, he probably wouldn't be nearly as freaked out as Gandalf would.
Gandalf is a Maiar. He just looks human, but he's actually like a demigod. He beat a Balrog, so I think he could take on Voltron and Dumbledore combined.
On his own, Optimus prime gets wrecked by Voltron, but Gandalf is wearing Narya, and will give Optimus Prime unbelievable courage. But that doesn't matter because Gandalf is so freaking powerful. Dumbledore was just a wizard who stumbled upon some good kit. So he has an "Elder wand", big deal. Gandalf was sent as Olórin by the Valar to defeat Sauron, the champion of the Dark Lord Morgoth. Dumbledore couldn't even handle Voldemort (given the name "dark lord", but really no more than a crazy genocidal wizard). Colbert: ask yourself who would win in a fight between Voltron and a Balrog. Gandalf doesn't even need Optimus Prime to school Voltron's ass.
I'll just toss out, I'd have gone with the Megazord instead of Voltron for this fight, more well-known and still a giant robot piloted by five teenagers.
It depends, if we're talking about Gandalf The Grey, Dumbledore would win. After Sauron, the Valar would no longer risk sending Maiar to Middle-Earth with unchecked power so they had send the Istari to Middle-Earth in bodies of old men both not to seem intimidating to Middle-Earth's inhabitants but to also be held back power wise. Gandalf could not match Dumbledore because Dumbledore has as much power as he is willing to conjure up. Gandalf is basically handicapped power wise. Voltron though would crush Optimus, so it's a tie.
Gandalf never shows how powerful he really is in The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. He only gets semi-involved. Gandalf the White is the second most powerful figure residing in Middle-Earth, if I'm not mistaken. Only Sauron with the Ring is more powerful (maybe even without it).
I was a rebel and voted as a Finnish person from Finland even though only America was asked to vote. I suppose this leads to furry hats declaring stricter voting laws in the future episodes.
Steven Colbert, you disappoint me. I expected better of one of the most knowledgeable Tolkien nerds alive. You know better than almost anyone how quickly Gandalf could end this. Optimus Prime wouldn't even get a chance to fly/jump. The amount of sheer power wielded by even the weakest of the Istari is enough to destroy almost anyone, and certainly some mortal and a robot. Come on, Steven, surely you can do better.
Gandalf alone destroys Dumbledore. Fact. Also, Stephen saying that Dumbledore has the power of Hogwarts' students to bear opens the door to outside help. Ergo, Optimus has the right to call in the Autobots for assistance who, when led by an untrained rookie, were able to defeat Unicron. To the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime wielding the Matrix of Leadership, Voltron would be cake.
+Jason Gordon Oh, I think we'd all be pretty, pretty safe in picking this one as the standard-bearer for FNFs. A lot of the credit for that has to go for the smothering level of nerd brimstone T-Lennon brings to the already simmering non-stop flow of nerd lava constantly threatening to overflow the banks of The Late Show and consume Manhattan, Ecol-Bert. Lennon was, admittedly, caught under-wanded for Ecol-Bert's possibly Universe-wide superiority in nerd-pop-quiziology (NB being caught out for the extraneous article added to the name of Gandalf's steed - rookie mistake there), and suffered a [quite possibly] fatal strategic gaff in conceding wizard parity in this particular tag-team battle. Yet nonetheless, T-L's nerd cred is, at this time in human history, objectively strong, pulsatingly powerful, and set on as a high a number as anyone not already actually on The Late Show, or otherwise currently employed on the cast of The Big Bang as it works its way thru the Later Syndication Epoch.
oh God Gandalf Dumbledore don't make me choose this is like asking somebody to choose between their the two kids except on a much greater scale please for the love of God Don't Make Me choose I can't choose they're both so awesome (God I'm actually serious here I'm a nerd yeah I'm a nerd)
prime will win because voltron hasn't had a movie remake yet and so is not as present in minds of the viewers who would hence default to prime - which is not to dissimilar to CNN's tactic of not showing Sander's footage in the hopes that their viewers will default to Clinton out of familiarity.
Must have been painful for Colbert to argue against Gandalf.
gandolf alone would win.
You can practically hear Colbert's hopes and dreams shatter at 3:33..
+Tom Thomson nah dumbledore would win, he could just turn his opponents into something less threatening. harry potter magic is op
dumb gal Actually not really. If it were to be a no-holds barred fight, which FNFs are, then Gandalf/Olorin would win. He's the Wisest of the Istari and post-Balrog, the strongest. +dumb gal
you do know who Gandalf is do you?
Gandalf has the upper hand when it comes to death: One wizard comes back to life and the other just becomes a talking painting.
Colbert defending Dumbledore over Gandalf is the funniest thing ever.
Dumbletron for the win.
However, Stephen saying "Gandalf is a hobo!" must have seriously wounded his soul.
+NS1973 I don't think so, because even if you do love him, it doesn't change the fact that he's the grey wanderer/Odin and thus a hobo. XD

So - Prime/Gandalf for the win!
Optimus can fly. He had that weapon pack that let him do that.
Gandalf and Optimus Prime > Dumbledore and Voltron
+thismindofmine Haha. No.
"Optimus Prime has survived four films with Michael Bay."
LOL!!!! :D
twitter in damage control
Its so awesome that people besides me still remember Voltron, Defender of the Universe
Oh the pain in Colbert ' s eyes. "you're in my house"
Damn they really caked the makeup on Colbert's face
best fight yet!!

Dude Lennon killed it in this lol
this. this is a good direction for friday night fights
Even Steven knows in his heart that Gandalf would wreck face. Dude's an immortal Ainur.
I wished Gandalf & Voltron were on the same team!
Gandalf and Optimus Prime!!!!😀
Thomas Lennon is very underrated

thank you!
+lednerg wow, you would thing they'd put the link in the description,
cheers dude!
Definitely first team, just cuz optimus survived four michael bay films
You could see the disappointment in Stephen's face when he had to go against Gandalf
both last week and this week he only announced one of the winners
This is pretty damn even. I mean Gandalf is obviously a better wizard than Dumbledore, but Voltron is easily more powerful than Optimus Prime. However, since Dumbledore lives in a time with electronics, he probably wouldn't be nearly as freaked out as Gandalf would.
Gandalf basicly being like "what name off eru is happening!"
Ross and a saber tooth tiger, vs Joey and a 10 foot scorpion.
Ganjalf the mighty!!
Really good bit.
Voltron equals a like
If you watch this on a Sunday night the chant "Friday Night Fights" makes you really feel depressed somehow.
Gandalf is a Maiar. He just looks human, but he's actually like a demigod. He beat a Balrog, so I think he could take on Voltron and Dumbledore combined.
Gandalf the chartreuse! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
cmon son..voltron alone will win this battle..
My Mom wins, she sent all the naughty wizards and robots to bed. Thanks Mom,now I can sleep =)
Good point, no one survives a micheal bay movie
I'll just toss out, I'd have gone with the Megazord instead of Voltron for this fight, more well-known and still a giant robot piloted by five teenagers.
That picture is of Gandalf the White. I expect more from you.
I loved this
Aww Stephen, don't be a sellout by arguing against Gandalf!
Relatively early, but not necessarily first.
Did Patton Oswalt ever do one of these??
and the winner is DEFINITELY Gandalf.
i thought this debate was settled on EPIC RAP BATTLES of HISTORY
Optimus Prime can fly. come on now.
Any diesel experts here? Would the issue that diesels don't use carburetors be good or bad against a fight with Voltron?
It was the taste of betrayal
It depends, if we're talking about Gandalf The Grey, Dumbledore would win. You're showing a picture of Gandalf the White yet you're calling him Gandalf the Grey... I expected more from you Colbert.
+real0arsenal Grey is the one in the battle, white is just the picture. Not really his fault. XD
screw attack should sort this one out
forged in Gondolin, beater to Orcrist's biter
Gandalf is actually the incarnation of a god, so he essentially can't be killed. Game. Set. And match.
+Tal Moore Not quite. The god has his back, though.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gandalf#Internal_biography
Tal Moore
Yup. He's a maia, not a god.
+Tal Moore The Istari are not God. they are basically the Arch Angels
+Tal Moore Considering the actual god had to send him back, I'm going to say that he can and has in fact been killed.
OP can fly
actually, Stephen, optimus prime did fly in the second transformers movie
Gandalf never shows how powerful he really is in The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. He only gets semi-involved. Gandalf the White is the second most powerful figure residing in Middle-Earth, if I'm not mistaken. Only Sauron with the Ring is more powerful (maybe even without it).
Someone get Screwattack over here. We have some deathbattles on our hands!
I was a rebel and voted as a Finnish person from Finland even though only America was asked to vote. I suppose this leads to furry hats declaring stricter voting laws in the future episodes.
This must've been hard for Stephen
The picture is of Gandalf the White...
Steven Colbert, you disappoint me. I expected better of one of the most knowledgeable Tolkien nerds alive. You know better than almost anyone how quickly Gandalf could end this. Ah Stephen burned Tom good at 6:12!
that fog looks so sexy
I mean, obviously dumbletron wins
so much nerd
Why did they stop doing this bit?
haaaaa colbert mistook gandalf for a vagabond...i'll imagine he will come to regret that.
Voltron hands down.
Lt Dangel
Gandalf alone destroys Dumbledore. Fact.

+VJStrife just imagine one of them saying all that with a straight face :3
***** I was shouting it at the computer while I watched it like they would stop and consider my point. >_
One of the best FNF!!!
+Jason Gordon Oh, I think we'd all be pretty, pretty safe in picking this one as the standard-bearer for FNFs.

Wow, you my friend have been using the thesaurus overzealously.
+Jason Gordon Actually, that's about normal for this cowboy. If you start reading early enough...
u so shoulda left the robots out of this
Does Colbert think that by saying every sentence twice in a row he'll get two times the debate points?
Get Matthew Perry on
NEEEERDS!!!!
oh God Gandalf Dumbledore don't make me choose this is like asking somebody to choose between their the two kids except on a much greater scale please for the love of God Don't Make Me choose I can't choose they're both so awesome (God I'm actually serious here I'm a nerd yeah I'm a nerd)
If you were truly a nerd it would be obvious to you. Gandalf the Gray

prime will win because voltron hasn't had a movie remake yet and so is not as present in minds of the viewers who would hence default to prime - which is not to dissimilar to CNN's tactic of not showing Sander's footage in the hopes that their viewers will default to Clinton out of familiarity.
