Oh my gosh! This is what my parents made. We called the beans 'pole beans' - my mother never went into the garden except to pick pole beans. My dad always missed them - she was good at finding them. I could smell them right now!!
My Italian mom made beans like that. The flat beans...she called them Fava beans. In the super market they are labeled Italian Beans, but they are called Fava. They come from Italy where they are favored over other types.
