You and Penn are my favorite Amazing Racers of all time. You always acted as a team, not unkind or bickering, nice to competitors, just a joy to root for. The show should bring you back as mentors for racers…. You could be available at pit stops and the show could show fans what happens after teams are safe but may have had a discouraging day.

My mother used to always have a packing list. I still have the toiletry bag she gave me 20 years ago packed with travel supplies and a list of what all was in there. I still even have the list. As my daughter and her friends got older, they each got one too. I know several of them still use them.. No matter what my mother did, there was a list. She also would set up my father's outfits for work and for trips. Mostly because he is color blind and left to his own devices, he can come up with some outfits that were not fit for public consumption.

When our oldest son was getting ready to graduate high school we decided to make it a tradition when the kids graduate high school we go to Europe. So we learned to pack light and have ever since. So we spent 3 weeks in Europe with each of us using a backpack built to maximize carry on space. Then lots of clothes that dries fast. Nearly every night my wife and I would go into bathroom and do some laundry in the sink for 3 boys and the 2 of us. Dryfit clothes are awesome for travel. Also make use of compression sacks and/or packing cubes. Was great to walk right on and off planes, trains without checking bags or waiting for bags. When arriving in cities and to early to check into hotel just use the lockers at train stations.

👋 Miss Kim. I have a few questions about TAR and your time there:
    1. Did you bring a puzzle (like Cayla(so?)), cards, dice to help pass the down time?
    2. Did you hear what the other ladies packed? How did compare with yours?
    3. Was there anything that you wished you had packed?
    4. Did the two of you do any exercising, stretching during down time?
    5. How much down time was there? Like did everyone get a rest day not racing?
    6. Noticed that no one brought safety goggles. After suffering from an eye injury from broken glass, I was shocked no one got plate pieces to the face!
    7. Would you consider doing a repeat of Season 33 with the same cast, please? This time with no interruption. Everyone was so fun to watch. Having never seen the show before (and, yes, I already re-watched the season) - it would be awesome!!!!!!!
    Thank you. And congratulations 🎉🍾

My husband and I sleep with a sound machine every single night so we have a mini one that we always take with us, otherwise no sleep = no bueno for sure. I also always carry a pashmina type scarf with me; it comes in handy for all kinds of things and doesn’t take up too much room. Lastly is mini sized microfiber cloths, such as Norwex, they are super versatile and can really help clean up things in a hurry. True story: when we came to tour our new home my husband tracked in red mud on the owners light colored rug. I had a cloth in the car and was thankfully was able to get all of the mud before we left. They ended up accepting our offer…coincidence? I think not LOL

Military roll!!! One of my friends showed me how to roll up clothes so they take up less space as he did in the military. I used that technique when I went down with the Red Cross to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for 3 weeks. I used that method to fit a weeks worth of clothes including 2 pairs of jeans and a dress to travel internationally AND it's my go to way to pack when hiking or camping. It has been a game changer for me!!

First and only time watching The Amazing Race because you two were in it - CONGRATULATIONS! We were thrilled!
Kim, what is the model of that small compass you had on your watch, and where did you buy it? We would love to have that for hiking, especially if/when we are in dead zones. We have been working on refining and reducing our packing for years. Not there yet, but we keep working on it and are getting better. An item we always bring are microfiber pack towels in 3 sizes: washcloth, medium (to wrap around wet hair so it dries faster while traveling since we don't use hair dryers), and large (great for wrapping hand-washed clothing to speed up drying and also good for emergencies). Extra plastic bags are a must. DUCT TAPE! That kept my hiking boots together on a 2-week hiking trip in Iceland in 2005 - the boots decided to separate from the soles in the front, and that tape kept the boots together for me to hike through the 2nd week. We have small folding hangers and bring 2-4 of them. They open to 2 sizes. We have recently found them more useful than the bungee cord clothesline we still bring along but may eventually refine to just ditch on a future trip. Portable battery charger for our smartphones - I keep that in my daypack. Travel toilet paper + hand sanitizer - ALWAYS in my hiking backpack! Keep those wonderful videos and podcasts coming, Kim and Penn!!!!

  • @chrystaltuckness5298

Duct tape!! Dental floss!! Those two items have done everything for us from holding shoes together and sewing things securely, to keeping a metal door from flapping in a storm and getting a suitcase with a broken zipper home. 10’ of duct tape around a golf pencil is slightly larger than a lip balm tube. I was wondering what you had packed. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey Kim,
(Question below) Awesome packing job! I had such fun watching season 33, and only watched because of you and Penn. I was rooting for you the whole time and knew you could do it - so I was psyched when you won! (I also have listened to every one of your amazing race podcasts).
So my big question (as someone who’s been married for 15 years) is: how did you prepare your relationship for doing the amazing race, knowing that you would be on TV and that they would most likely try to utilize any arguments and tension between you to make “good TV“? I really admired how you were always building each other up, letting mistakes go, and just staying generally positive. How did you prepare for that? What kind of conversations and determinations did you have prior to racing? And how much of that is already something you’ve built into your relationship over your marriage?
I know you have a lot of subscribers and people communicating with you now but I’d be so grateful to hear your thoughts on this. Love, megan

they stated that they had discussed how to talk to each other before the race. It shows how in tune they are. If you have watched their channel, you can see how they fit together.
It was defiantly refreshing watching a couple without the drama and blame game. When Penn stayed for the one clue and Kim just comforted him... and the bungee jump...... relationship goals.
I loved all the interviews, but When Wes H. interviewed from WNCN, like coming home- awesome. I watched both of them in their TV days.

I am So Happy you guys won! You’re the only reason I kept up with the race for the first time. You’re right, it was Amazing, especially the Holderness Duo!
I never packed a backpack but lived out of a small suitcase a lot as a lead/back-up vocalist and percussionist in a traveling music group with my husband-many moons ago. ;)
I always included a mini-iron and a sewing kit. I’ve done a lot of last minute pressing and sewing touch ups on hotel beds for the guys and myself. Of course, we had outfits for every night, not like your runnnning adventure clothes.

The producers of Amazing Race are probably kind of scared of you now. I think you've potentially changed the game completely. People will be more prepared and potentially communicate better with each other in the future. It will be harder to throw the contestants for a loop when confronted by things like manual transmissions or left hand drives. And EVERYONE is going to brush up on map skills and simple foreign language knowledge.

You can get them in the mini-sized section at Target and they are a life saver, especially when you are rewearing clothes through your trip. If your jeans are bringing their travel smells along, a few spritzes makes them smell a lot more tolerable!
And amen to those travel cubes, Kim! 🙌🏼

My husband and I do extended motorcycle trips all over the country. We are on one bike and he will not pull a trailer, so that means everything we need for 2 months has to fit in the space of about 3 of your backpacks. I use a CPAP every night, and like you, we have a weight limit. Packing is like doing a puzzle--taking things out or swapping them for smaller and lighter. To avoid leaving necessary items behind, I list each on 3×5 cards stored in the place where it belongs. Nothing like wasting time searching for something you know you packed, only to find you stashed it in a different place, after buying another one--if it's even available! So everything gets put back in the same place, and there's a card to remind me what's supposed to go there.

Thank you! I’ve been intensely curious about what essentials items TAR cast members pack. I’m a mom of two kids under five with a husband who is afraid of flying, so it’s not as if I have any time or energy to travel but, because of that, I can only dream of traveling. Ever since I started watching you guys on season 33, I find my RUclips feed filled with videos of light-packing / travel tips. Ah…one day…😎🏖🍹

Okay, here's a question for you: how much changed from the initial trip in spring 2020 to the 2nd trip in fall 2021? Did you adjust, & figure out things that you didn't really need, or things you didn't think of the 1st go-round?

😀 love all your things and organizing. This was fun to watch. Before we went to Paris, I watch so many RUclips videos on how to pack because I'm a horrible packer. I over pack and end up not using so many things. It really is a skill and so freeing not to drag around all this stuff you don't actually need. I did discover that they make a baby travel razor. Easier to hold and not much bigger. I'd love to hear more about your amazing race prep/behind the scenes experience. It's very interesting. :)

Love your packing list! YES! I, too, have taken only the razor cartridge. And I LOVE my Elta foundation/sunscreen! And I also use the cubes for categorizing my clothes! Everywhere we travel, I take a notebook to keep track of photos I have taken and stories behind them! I'm a huge scrapbooker (a dying art) and it makes it easy to go back throughout the years and recall photos I want to journal.

I remember before I studied abroad in college talking to another student about traveling light. I ended up packing only a carry on for 4 months of living in England. I wore my thick sweater over a tank top and a long sleeved shirt with a pair of jeans. Then I packed one extra sweater (thinner) and another pair of jeans, one skirt (for special occasions), and a few more shirts (plus undergarments). I ended up being the lightest packer on the trip, and I helped a lot of my fellow study abroad classmates as I met them on trains because they all had two giant bags. And I totally didn't feel like I was missing anything... although my winter coat did die while I was there and I had to buy a really cool new one from a thrift store. :D

Actually it was great! I use Earth Breeze brand laundry sheets, which are dry approximately 4x6 inch sheets of detergent. Half a sheet washes a small load. They would probably be great for this. But I thought it was funny that you said you used all your Sephora points for mini’s and promptly decided not to bother after the first leg. Melatonin! Yes!!

    • @lindseybruce9793
      @lindseybruce9793 2 года назад +1

She said she didn’t bother with foundation after first leg. I think Lola would be mortified if she used no makeup at all… (although i don’t think it would be a priority to me)

  • @brclyn
    @brclyn 2 года назад

YAY MELATONIN. It pairs well with magnesium. I didn't watch any of the after interviews, as we got the race after it had finished. I never watch the program but with you and Penn in it I had to especially knowing that you won it. I still got worried on the hard legs, but you two aced it. I think the things that won it, was the support you always gave to each other, Penn's memory and your amazing attention to detail and the practical. It was so much fun watching you, and lost it totally with the plate smashing 🤣.

I love me some Deuter packs! I own the Act Lite 45+10 SL and the Trail 28 SL. Very comfy, cute, and well designed. Plus they both have a little emergency guide in the brain/top flap (how to signal for help, a place to write down a county's 911 equivalent, etc.) which makes the prepper in me happy. The number refers to the pack capacity in liters--22 is pretty impressive for a continent-hopping trip!

My mom told me about this video before my trip to the Netherlands - which was Amazing! - but yeah I agree with what I all saw, didn't know that they made a laundry tide for sinks. I did find out before my trip the vacuum magic bags that you can just roll and it takes the air out. - mostly - They was a great item that I used since I always carry in my carry-on a full outfit just incase.

Bravissima! I predict you'll never return to overpacking. Once you've enjoyed the benefits of traveling super light, you're likely to keep it up. I have a sweater, hoodies, bandanna, etc from around the world, when I had an emergency need. They also make fun and practical souvenirs. A quick dry towel and short expanding clothesline are useful. I used socks and bandannas as washcloths and was able to wash them out simultaneously. You were clever and so well organized.
