Thank you for this. Kung Fu cinema is one of the loves of my life. I could not live without. I will also subscribe to this channel. At first, I felt this channel only catered to a pretentious arthouse crowd.....and maybe it does to a degree , but this shows me the channel knows what is the Balls Marie as well. Kudos to you, Mubi. Now do a video about Honda, Tsuburaya, and Gojira!!
A fantastic video essay. I will say that Crippled Avengers is a Chang Cheh film and using that to describe Lau Kar Leung's output wasn't the best edit (Legendary Weapons of China could've been used instead), but otherwise, this was clear, concise and incandescent. Wuxia is such an important medium in the Chinese speaking world and this is the best explanation of that, along with how it differentiates from the open-handed kung fu film, on RUclips. Cheers!
Am offering a course on martial arts film. This video is a very helpful introduction to the Shaw Brothers and the actors and directors who came out of their system. Thank you for posting!
I think it was: Lady snowbird was for the Lucy lu character White lotus clan for the white hair kung fu master Thriller was the European movie basis for Andi McDowell The team of assassins with snake code names was a reference to previous QT films.
Thanks for the video -- so much Shaw Brothers goodness!
Dear Shaw Brothers, please release all P. Ramlee’s movies in new restoration!

The perfect love letter to perhaps the most infamous and influential film studio in cinematic history. Thank you. 🙏🏾🙏🏾

grest video essay. but wasn't tarantino referencing the japanese film "lady snowblood" in "kill bill"?
Lady Snowblood is the primary inspiration. But this is one of the many others
I think it was:
Lady snowbird was for the Lucy lu character
White lotus clan for the white hair kung fu master
Thriller was the European movie basis for Andi McDowell
The team of assassins with snake code names was a reference to previous QT films.
