  • I was gifted 60 pounds of pork fat trimmings from a local farmer! In today's video I'll show you how I render it down into lard and store it for years to come. I hope you enjoy this video & try rendering your own fats if you haven't yet!

    I don't use lard often, but use bacon fat all the time for frying. I have used lard for making Fastnachts (a type of donut) for the past several years.
    Given the increase in butter prices, I used lard in pie crust recently. It had a more granular texture than my usual crust, but there could have been any number of factors.
    This is the first video of yours I have seen, very nicely done. You certainly seem to know your way around a kitchen.

      Don't be fooled. I'm definitely still learning! 😅 I'm so excited to try pie crust with it. Thank you for the fastnacht (german?) idea. I'll have to look into it! 💚
