    Great video, thank's so much for sharing. It was to the point, not to long and boring (I already know *how* to remove a screw, thank-you), but didn't skip anything important and a *BIG* thank you for telling us the fastener type ("torx 20" "torx 15" "hex", etc) as you were removing them, that helps a lot in re-assembly! Car back together, had a heartbeat skip moment when it flashed the immobilizer and wouldn't let me start, until I remembered wondering what the "little black connector" on the steering column was for.... plugs into the side of the ignition switch and obviously needed or she won't start. :) .. all good, heat and no smell now.

    wish I could play this video backwards, I'm in the process of re-assembly... man.. what a job! getting the a/c side disconnected was hell, on a TDI, I had to remove the intake pipe and the anti-shudder valve just to get at it... Didn't have to fully remove the crossbar... with it disconnected I could move it enough out of the way to get the climate box out...Must say though, I'd like to find the VW engineers who designed this monstrosity, in a dark alley some night. :(

      @@allyorbital2713 not in my case, my A/C wasn't working and had no pressure. Otherwise, yes, it needs to be dealt with properly, however that is done.

    @the mechanic well Igor with the help of your videos and many other guides and tips I finally finished the heater core/matrix on my Golf! All seems good so far although I have brake issues so have not driven car much yet.
    Things to note when doing the job are the sealant on the base of the cabin filter housing. My car was getting damp inside and this was the culprit so I removed the housing and cleaned all surfaces thoroughly with a final wipe of 50/50 water/Iso alcohol and resealed it with a roll of Butyl Sealant. This seems to have worked great.
    The above leak also meant that water was dripping down past the blower motor and then into the blower motor resistor/tray that holds the blower motor in place. My heater blower would only work on setting 0 or 4 meaning the resistor has failed, it was very rusty and had a tide line inside the housing! So this was replaced and now works fine. (I recommend Autodoc site/app for parts like this and others!)
    In my case due to some inexperience with wiper arms I ended up stripping the splines on the wiper motor and arms so replaced them with second hand items. Make sure to use a proper tool to remove wiper arms.
    I hope to eventually create a guide (on UK-mkivs forum or similar) as I have quite an extensive amount of photos from completing this heater core replacement.

    Um, the goal is to disassemble the least amount of things as possible why you were unbolting the relay box and everything else over there just blatantly screams unnecessary. The steering column can be left intact if it's telescoping/tilting just unlock and let it hang. Find all the 13mm bolts on the engine bay side, the hidden bolt behind the windshield wiper every other bolt is inside the car. A series of 10mm bolts hold the HVAC box, remove those from the engine bay under the heat shield, under the AC black box, then move the bar enough to pull the box out the middle of the dash to access the heater core. It's all about removing just enough to gain access to the heater core w/o breaking anything. TBH there's plenty of better Diy all over the web. Understand for most this is easily a weekend project and take pics if you can't remember the process and label where the sea of screws came from. If you make it a 2-step process, removing the dash first, then removing the HVAC box it'll go much quicker. If you need to be up and running asap and you know your way around an engine then it's around 4-6 hours with the proper tools and motivation.

      Taking your time using the proper tools and knowing where all the screws and bolts are will easily take 6-8 hours with the usual chatting and downing of a brew or two. If it's your first virgin voyage make it a weekend project and you'll be less frustrated in your performance in the end.

    Hello friend, I am dismantling my IV golf to change the evaporator of the car. Your video has been very useful for me. But I have reached a point of no return and I have encountered two problems when it comes to sabar the steel bar that crosses the dashboard. Point 1. the top exit of the climate is hooked to the bar, I think it goes out to one side, but impossible without removing the bar before or up. Thing I can not finish doing for, point 2. The part of steel bar of the steering wheel, in its rear part is hooked to a plastic that passes the cables from side to side of the transmission and I can not unhook it. Would you remember how you did?

    • @mechanicigor
      @mechanicigor  6 лет назад
