@@grimreaperhenrik yeah a lot of the KI(2013) characters had an overhaul to their stories. The original was unapologetically cheesy. Spinal wins an Oscar for his role as a skeleton in a movie(Jason and the Argonauts I think). In the new story he's after the mask to free his soul. I think the cannon ending for him is he's taken control of by Kahn Ra to help him destroy Aganos.
can you imagine how intimidating it would be to see an army chanting this song in the middle of battle and suddenly spinal and other undead skeletons rise from the ground to aid the enemy and seeing your warriors being skinned to the bone all while hearing spinals scary maniacal cackle and screams
My thoughts as the enemy: "Shit, why is their battle chanting so catchy? Someone go pray to that ghost chick" I'd probably then be smacked by a skeleton

I don't know why but "the enemies have burned our land" gives me chills. I thought this was a proud war song, but it makes it sound more like a broken kingdom's last attempt at victory by succumbing to dark powers. SO COOL

I figured it out. "Slår på sköldar" is "beat on shields". They are banging on their shields like a drum to intimidate the enemy.
"Rasslar med svärd och Slår på sköldar" is "Rattle with swords and beat on shields". This army was making a ton of noise.
Goes to show that Mick Gordon knows his shit.
He works with ID Softworks now on the soundtrack for Doom Eternal.

@@hanhphuc166 Only because of a higher up person at ID Softworks didn't like some of the verisons that Mick did and started tweek it to his liking and Mick didn't know anything about it, intill the DOOM Eternal OST come out and Mick said that some songs have parts that aren't his work and he was Pissed not cause of the tweaking but ID didn't say shit too him about the tweaking and Acted like EVERYTHING DOOM Eternal Soundtrack was Mixed and Produced by Mick Gordon but alas that was a lie and Mick rather not work for that company anymore than ruin his soild reputation with his dedicated Music fans :D
Not entirely. Simply, Mick couldn't deliver the product on time despite countless delays and Id just has to put the untweeked tracks out. Just a case of firing a lazy employee that is.

I've always loved the reference to the berserk'r warriors with the intoxicating mushrooms.
You know... assuming the lyrics are accurate. They sort of paint Spinal as being some kind of ancient hero if you think about it.
The song and lyrics make me think that Spinal may have once been some sort of Khal Drogo-esque warlord (or some European equivalent), this whole 'lifeless, soulless, baptised in blood' sounds to me as though he was BORN a warrior and leader of men, dedicated to killing and conquering. His god/demon status alluded to in the lyrics, I suspect is born out of reverence for just how mighty he was in life, and they chant and pray to him, that they may too be blessed with his strength.

according to KI1 he was also previously Thunder Hawks brother who was a famous warrior in life. Although that was muddled when the comic book said that Thunder Hawks brother is Fulgore.
Doesn't get any more metal than a war cry of chanting, describing the eternal struggle and the wrath you will put upon your eternal enemies.
Wind howling... Choppy, angry sea... Weather worn Skeleton crew rowing relentlessly towards their quaking enemies all while chanting this.

Weren't the Vikings in Scotland at one point, though? Also I think it's interesting how they ask Spinal to become their Chieftain or Warchief. It would make more sense if he became Warchief considering they're going to war, but this would mean that there are multiple clans that willingly call for Spinal's help.

This is a late comment but I realize in the song, they don't sing "Flå" (or to skin) everytime. The majority of the time it sounds like they're saying "Dö" or "Död", which means to die, or dead respectively.
Example: 4:08 It sounds like they're saying Dö/Död, while at 3:27 they're saying Flå

I know I'm very late to the game, but I have to join those that hear two different variants of the chant. At 2:07 it's definitely FLÅ-FLÅ-FLÅ, but at several other times I hear DÖ-DÖ-DÖ (DIE-DIE-DIE).
I'm not disputing the fact that these might be the lyrics given by Mick Gordon, but maybe they changed it last minute or something, happens all the time. To a Swede there is a very clear difference between the chants at 0:46 for example and the one at 2:07, surprised that not everyone can hear it.

Wait so if Spinal has no muscles obviously then how does his skeleton body become animated without his soul or and residual lifeforce energy? The lyrics makes this song and character make no sense even from a fantasy standpoint. Because the people called forth Spinals spirit to possess his body in revival to aid them in crushing their enemies. So if his spirit inhabits his body from the summoning then how does it makes sense to say in said lyrics that he is "soulless"

Actually, Sweden was pretty brutal up to just about 400 years ago. xD One wouldn't think it. But they had conquered most of the balcan area in Europe. They even had a hand in what formed Germany and their main issues that led to the first world war (Although to be fair, a lot of countries contributed to that).
There are even some statues left in Poland of the Swedish King at that time that was a warmongerer.

When i first saw the new shield i briefly thought, it was actually carved wood idol of Cthulu actually part of the shield's material.... and its moving and stuff, was magical animation, kinda like spinal himself.
apex2000 It could be something like that. Maybe the shield is just like a Cthulu spawn's spirit or something and it's the source of the magic holding him together? Which is why it can just straight-up absorb energy and give him skulls. Because the shield IS the main being or something.
