I completes disagree about the second Creed lacking the heart of the first film. The scene where Adonis and Bianca check to see if their baby can hear will be a scene that I’ll never forget along with the scene where Rocky sees his grandson and tells him that he looks like his grandmother.
The worst beating Adonis got in that movie was not from Viktor. It was finding out that his daughter was born DEAF. The worst beating Rocky suffered in Rocky 3 was the death of Micky and his worst beating in Rocky 4 was Apollo's death. In some of these boxing movies the worst "beatings" that the protagonist suffers happen when nobody is punching them.
Yeah, but that’s only one part of the movie. It’s not really a plotline that permeates through the whole storyline. It’s not something that Adonis carries with him in to the ring, so to speak. In comparison to the first movie, where his abandonment and living in the shadow of his dad looms over everything he does heading into and during the fight.
@@thedefinitionisthis But in Creed 2 he has to deal with the struggle of finding something to fight for which includes his relationship with Bianca and his daughter and even Rocky. Also I would argue that the emotion is way more felt with Drago and his son as they are trying to prove to the woman who left their life that they are good enough and not a humiliation to their country.
@@kylearking8918 I’ll agree to a degree that the heart lies more in Drago’s storyline. But even that’s not developed 100% fully, and that’s give only a single scene. Adonis “losing” the fight didn’t really get me in the feels, because end of the day, it was just a bruised ego. Given what it took to get him to fight Drago the first time, it really was just ego. I dunno, everything just felt surface level to me in Creed 2. It wasn’t bad per se, but it just didn’t hit me the way the first movie builds to that one moment where Adonis just bluntly says that he has to prove that he’s not a mistake. For part 2, despite being the champ, he won’t feel like it unless he simply beats… another challenger. There was a deleted scene in Creed 2 that I wish was kept, as I feel that would’ve driven the emotion and themes home more, and possibly elevated the movie’s emotional core. After their second match, Adonis & Viktor share a heart-to-heart of sorts, and come to this understanding that they both need to not be consumed by whatever quarrel their fathers (and Rocky) had, and THAT is what let’s them both move on; not from fighting for foolish pride.
I have no sympathy for Sylvester Stallone on this issue. Here's why in order to make the first Rocky he begged borrowed pleaded and he sold the rights to the story so it can be made and negotiated so he wants to the Star of the movie. Off of that success he has had one of the most successful acting careers of the last 50 years. Specifically in the 80s and '90s. If he wanted to buy back the franchise he should have tried it before Rocky Balboa or afterwards. Before they even made the first Creed. This whole situation sounds to me like somebody who's greedy because something can be successful without him necessarily being front and center. I don't feel guilty for somebody who is complaining about money but has also made hundreds upon hundreds of millions of dollars more money than I will ever send my lifetime so I have zero sympathy for Sylvester Stallone on this specific issue

I dont agree that Creed had no connection with Drago, there was definitely a personal grudge there with Ivans dad literally KILLING Apollo in the ring. There was a huge personal connection between the two, even if Ivan wasn’t the one who did it directly.
He meant in terms of personal connection to his opponent in Viktor. Viktor didn't do anything to Adonis. Ivan did. As tantalizing as it is to have the sons of two former fighters go head-to-head, really what is solved by beating Drago's son in the ring? Both Adonis & Viktor have a superficial connection, but it's not like the two were ever really in each other's lives, until they were both essentially forced to fight one another. "Creed II" was more about bruised egos than anything. There was a deleted scene that actually kind of addressed this; the fact that they really didn't need to fight. I wish it was kept in, as it hammered home the message of these two young fighters distancing themselves from a feud that honestly has nothing to do with them as individuals.
That movie was very good. The beef that led up to the fight was kinda rushed. Otherwise, the acting of the main three characters and the stylized fights were awesome.
This whole situation behind the scenes with Sly just has me confused. I love Sly and always felt he, Michael B Jordan, and Ryan Coogler were strong friends and held great respect for one another, hence why Sly was hesitant to do another Rocky film again until Coogler came along with the script and be both loved it and trusted Coogler to handle the IP well. And because he enjoyed the first 2 projects, he felt comfortable enough to step away and allow the IP to continue. But since he and the producer have had a bad relationship, it feels like he backtracked and is now boycotting it. But I feel if he actually had respect for MBJ and Coogler, he wouldn't let that get in the way and hide that so he can show support for MBJ's first directorial debut. It just seems slightly petty on his part. I get it's mainly HIS IP but he's willing to shine a bad light on the film for an acting partner it seemed he respected and loved?
I wish Stallone had ownership of the franchise but his bitter feeling toward the Producer that own the IP isn't going to stop me from enjoying the Creed movies.
Exactlyyyyyyyyy! Creed 2 was very personal and emotional! Not just because he fought the son of the man who killed his dad. But the way Adonis took that lost, went into hiding, went through an emotional rollercoaster. He had an ego check because Rocky told him he wasn’t ready for this fight and needed more training to prepare him to go against his opponent
