Israel was in a state of euphoria after The Six Day War and The War of Attrition, we thought we were unbeatable, that no one could mess with us, this war changed that mindset very, very quickly, an amazing series that had me glued to the screen from the very first episode.
The answer was in the heads of Dayan and Golda ,Dado ,people who are not with us anymore ,and of course Zehira who is still with us the protocols of the defense cabinet are still under state secret even after 47 years,so we do not know what brought Golda and Dayan to avoid a general reserve call ,even after the information from King Hussein and the "angel" the Eygptian spy.the main guilt fall on Zehira who decided that there is no possibility to war.
Thanks to this series I got a intense talk with my father. He was in the Yom-Kippur-War as a psychologist for the soldiers coming back from the frontline. I think, he would never have told me what was going on there and in his life, if I wouldn't have seen the series. It was about time. Thanks a lot! Toda raba!
Good for you. Many people don't like talking about that war. My uncle was a mechanic during that war. To this day nearly fifty years later he still doesn't like talking about it. So sadly I know very little about what he went through. Even though I wish I did
This was honestly a fantastic and suspenseful military show, and the fact that its based on actual events is wild.
Wait for the second season, that will take place at the southern front against Egypt.

I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed it. I shot for a few days with the series as an extra. It's weird to know that my father would have been sacrificed had he not immigrated to the US as he was on the Bar Lev line. I know he still secretly harbours resentment at that, even if he'll never admit it. You can see me in the situation room scenes as a wireless operator as well as a wounded soldier. We had fun doing it, but I won't deny it was tiring as well.
Amazing series. My last two girlfriends were Jewish (One is no longer with us of blessed memory) and I really respect their culture and how they hang on tooth and nail to their traditions. Shalom Aleikhem my friends and good will amongst men to all.
The Jews have through history have been persecuted. and fight for survival.

@@itsonlyme9938 Thank you she was wonderful but passed away at 31 due to an allergic reaction to medication. I found out from my best friend as I was headed back home from a business trip. It was a tough time for everyone.

I’ve finally watched the last episode and I’ve loved every episode. since I watched a episode called greatest tank battles how so many few centurions tanks thought against thousands of t-55’s and also the t-62’s and stood their ground very brave. much respect from 🇬🇧

As a Moroccan , I totally enjoyed the serie especially the efforts made by actors trying to showcase the story of back then ( black panthers 🐆 fellow Moroccans ) , I loved hearing insults in Moroccan Arabic dialect , and this prove one ☝️ thing: that basically Jewish and Muslims Arabs are cousins and brothers , and ultimately there shall be peace ✌️ in Palestine 🇵🇸 / Israel 🇮🇱, the same way it was in Casablanca , Meknes , Fez , agadir , etc.. for 1000 of years , Salam and shalom to all ! Are you kidding me? That miniseries could and should have been done in a 2 hour movie. I love history and historical films, but it dragged out way too long. If you want to see a worthy miniseries watch Band of Bothers or anything that Ken Burns directed. Trust me.

@@ofribarak2005 I am just a little disgusted from a world view about the 70 year conflict in the middle east and all the harm it has done to so many people. I don't hate Israel . What causes me great concern from a global perspective is that neither side has been able to live together in peace for this long. Any reasonable person would ask themselves "why" Especially now that we are living in a nuclear age and your country is sill building settlements where they shouldn't be, it signals to me that Israel is going to keep land grabbing

Very realistic , especially for me as a Singaporean. The Israeli helped built and train our armed forces.
As an Arab guy really I enjoyed with this amazing series even if w've another tragedy story in same that period of history.

A brilliantly filmed series. The acting was exceptional. Very hard to watch at times, but this is a story that needed to be told.
I just finished watching Valley of tears. And while I mildly enjoyed it I found the acting to be 2nd rate and the writing even worse. That said I watched it in English and maybe the acting/dialogue would have been better in the original. But as it is I can only give it a C+. And that's probably only because I love this era of history and have a degree in the Arab/Israeli conflict.

Epsisode 7 came out tonight this is so hard to watch...my family lost somone who was a pilot at this war. its hurts to watch I sometimes shed a tear at the horiffics. for an outsider view it may not be so grusome but for an Israeli viewer if ya n Israeli goes through each episode and not stops it n cry at least... has no soul.

war was hard for both sides of the war, we won and achieved our strategic goal by getting our land back ( sinai ) , israel could have avoided all this shit if it didn't occupy our lands and tried to resolve the conflic peacefully.

I am from Israel and my grandfather died in this war. Such an exciting, powerful and chilling series. The plot is suspenseful and dramatic. The cast and production cast at the highest level there is a series that best explains what happened in this war.🇮🇱❤️

I was waiting for this series when I read that HBO got the licensed to show this. No wonder it's the most expensive so far in Israel. Production looks good. I hope HBO MAX will also get shows from China, Japan & others. Regardless of political views at least its a way of exposing foreign audience of why governments or countries behave in certain ways.

I thought I've exhausted all Western series that I like to watch so I decided to explore. There's a lot of good Chinese series (period dramas) that's not on Netflix that HBO can buy the license or collaborate with them. It can educate the Western audience why China is like this big and why it's a communist country. At one point I got addicted to Turkish dizi. South Korea has so much exposure already. So other countries should be able to showcase their shows if given a chance.
Why was this show so expensive? Compared to Band of Brothers it's so low budget.
@@chrisk920 What I gathered from the news - it's the most expensive so far by Israeili TV series' standard. They claimed it's about $1 million per episode. Now, Band of brothers was actually very expensive more than Game of Thrones. HBO & other production companies spent $125 million for the entire series. Whereas GOT cost $50-$60 million for its first season.
@@laviniajanehollis4064 Exactly. And most of BoB was filmed in a British aircraft hangar using CGI with Hanks/Spielberg money. I can't understand the comparison between the two series as they are so inherently different. I just wish the Golan setting was less drought-ridden and green, as it was in the 70s. But I'd rather this depiction than fake CGI.

I just finished binge watching all ten episodes and it was pretty good. I was disappointed the series should have shown the phone call Golda made to President Nixon when she blatantly told him “Mr President, without the immediate assistance from the united states, Israel may cease to exist”. Also i strongly recommend y’all watch a CNN documentary called “Against All Odds” about modern 1948-2000 and it covers many miracles occurring in Israel 🇮🇱. I’m really hoping for a 2nd season but I just Googled it and the HBO article said they canceled production of season 2. I’m assuming because of Covid but I’m not sure why. I really hope HBO Max reconsiders. I want to see the southern front of the 1973 War against Egypt.

A brilliant watch, even for us who are not Arab nor Israeli and the 1973 war is just a name. It is really exhausting even claustrophobic, making you how it feels to be stuck in a war. But you can not stop to watch, episode after episode. it just sticks you to the screen, turning it into a ten hour movie.

Unfortunately HBO Max doesn't seem to air in UK, Germany, Italy and other European countries before 2025. Does anyone have informations how or where you can watch it in Germany or when a DVD/Bluray release is scheduled? My Hebrew is not good enough to watch it in the original language, but with English subtitles it wouldn't be a problem. I really would like to watch it.
I really enjoyed this programme on More 4 on British TV. The opening credits and music was amazing, an Israel at peace with itself and enjoying life until war came. I hope I can see the second season as I wasn't aware there was one until reading other the comments. Can anyone tell me what the final song on the very last episode was, thanks.

I'm from Israel. my father fought in this war, as a solider in the Israeli Infantry in the southern front of the Sinai desert. he used to say exactly the same thing - that in the Yom Kippur war (1973) the enemy catched us with our pants down. your comment reminded me this because you said the same thing

As an Israeli who was in Special Recon Infantry during that war in Syria ,want to point out: all these guys are mainly tank units who had finished their 3 years army draft and were called up for reserves for the war. Maybe the producers needed to add a lot of emotional BS that I never saw during 72 months service and 2 wars. During those years most Israeli men were called up to fight. Showing stress spreads.Much of the emotion here might be pandering to an audience viewing events 48 years after.Western World men today allow themselves to gush tears. I never saw tears, surely the tears did flow but only when the men finally got home. Many of us died there within a very short time of months.
Yea they even mentioned adding some fiction into the series but overall they added a story inside a story inside a story that they made one big story out of.
@@Nicolay406 !! One thing I learned in THAT war. There IS no "1 story". Fighting in a war, you don't even know what is happening 15 kilometers away. War is the whole Big Picture. I was hoping to watch this and stopped after a few minutes.

What you see on thr TV is nothing comparing to what really happened there , even though the Israelis won this war it still their worst war so far. And it all happened because of the yearning of the Arabs for war and because the indifference of the Israelis after the six days war. The Arabs treated them horrible. They tortured the Israeli soldiers , burnt them alive.... And they are all kids.... 18, 19 20 years old , those Israelis. Watching their friends dying , burning tortured.... Everyone was so traumatic after this war more than any war!

I don’t mind the Golan Heights campaign for the Israeli side of the war. I’m worried about the Syrian war crimes in the present. I’m just glad there was an episode where two soldiers on both sides meet each other without drawing First Blood. What’s the name of the Israeli soldier with a pet hedgehog...? 🇮🇱 🦔

There are innumerable reasons to respect and admire the Israeli people regardless of their government leaders. I could only watch the '73 war from America on television, and even from there I could tell the situation was dire. What they had to do was impossible. But they did it. i did not know this series was on until it was reported in the New York Times today. Cueing it up tonight.

Those are both clumsy translations, even if you are technically right that נעילה is "locking", "Lock Hour" sounds wrong in English. "Closing Time" is better, and נעילה refers to the end of Yom ha Kippurim.
