Great tutorial as ever Glyn, will certainly help with some of my jobs. Keep up the good work, always look forward to Thursday mornings and your tutorial.
Glyn, really fantastic job. Sometimes it's easy to forget these tips, especially when you've been editing for a long time. I like how you show us in the curves window as it can be replicated in any photo editing tool, whether it be Aperture, Lightroom, Irident, Capture One, Photoshop or whatever.
Side note; when I use this technique, I find that the threshold adjustment layer for the mid-tones, should be moved left for the shadow area. That's where I find my mid-tones, the middle of the histogram picks up on the same highlights as the first step.
Great video! Here is a quicker way to get a similar result. Go to 'Image/Adjustments' then choose 'Match Color' then tick the' Neutralize' box and drag the 'Fade' slider to a value between 0-100 keep looking until you are happy with the cast removal. A fade value of about 25 is good for this image. Hope this helps someone.
+Dave Kelly match color is nowhere near as accurate as using thresholds, thing is glen should slide highlights and shadows a little bit deeper into the histogram, the results would be much better (especially in highlight area, there is a danger of targeting reflective surfaces, like skin or plastic, glass, whatever, and that will give you a false value) . i shoot portraits with xrite color checker and i remember running a comparison between several methods of correcting the white balance other than using a color card, threshold method is by far the closest one, though still not as good as using the color checker.
Hi Glyn, I am new to photoshop and find your videos very helpful, so thank you so much for showing me how to correct colour cast, I will be using these methods. I wonder if you could also show us how to remove local colour casts (i.e. when you have white on subject and a surface is green say, this result in a slight green refection on white shirt)
Another little Dave Cross trick (you think *I* could think this stuff up? :) ) -- when using the eyedroppers in the adjustment layer to click on your color sampler points, turn on CAPS LOCK. It makes your cursor a target that you can line up very precisely on your color sampler points.
Thanks Glyn another really helpful tutorial. I guess the photoshop method could be built into an action incorporating all the necessary adjustment layers which could then be turned on and off as necessary. With the photoshop and Color Efex Pro methods did you end up with precisely the same colour correction result or was one more "accurate" than the other?
Hey there, thanks for the tut. I'm having a problem with the gray balance part. I press new layer, fill with 50% gray and hit threshold but instead of a levels graph all I get in my threshold panel is a blank white graph with a line in the center. Help.
I have made an indoor photo of the hungarian parliment building. the lights are at the core far too bright, the rest too dark, and colours just weird. It seems a bit too green, would this be a nice way to filter that out?
I got a iPhone 7 in that that happened to me I don’t even know how to do it with the way you’re trying to say I don’t get all that stuff on my screen how do I get it
Hi Glyn When I try to set the mid tones, everything is fine until I open curves, then the mid tone point turns into a shadow, so from 127,127,127 0,0,0 must be doing something wrong HELP!
I think there is a much easier way. On a curves adjustment layer Alt or Option + click "Auto"; tick "Find Dark & Light Colors" and "Snap Neutral Midtones".
*PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL: How to Remove a Colour Cast* This episode was prompted by an email I had from one of my Online Buddies Donny Pellach where he asked if I knew a way to quickly and easily remove a colour cast that he had noticed on some pictures he had recently taken. I wrote back explaining one way it could be done along with returning one of his pictures to show the result but I figured it would be a good thing to share with everyone else too. So, in this episode I show you 3 ways you can do exactly that. Obviously Photoshop being Photoshop there are countless ways to do the same thing, but here’s 3 ways I use and that work for me… PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL: How to Remove a Colour Cast - FAST!
Great episode Glyn Dewis . I was familiar with the threshold technique, but did not know how to find the midtones. Thank you, this will be very useful!

This is ridiculous… Just take it into raw and change the color temperature. It should be that simple. And after all these years, how does Photoshop not have a white balance picker… That you just pick on something white and it will know what white is. This is insane. my editing program da Vinci resolve… One click and can balance itself. How can this not happen in Photoshop? Is Adobe like 10 years behind the times? Your method is a mess.
Seriously? When you take spontaneous photos of your children (if you have them) you stop and think about styling? Blimey...bundle of laughs you must be :) lol
Great to hear, thanks :)

Hey Vince, you are most welcome.

Thanks for this video. I've referred to this video multiple times now... I need to create an action lol
Thanks for helping us :D
EXCELLENT !....THANKS

Vernon...pretty much the same result to be honest or as good as anything
Some other videos say to only apply the 50% gray reset. Is that sufficient? or does one has to do that plus black and white?
fantastic!
Magic!
you are awesome man, thank you :)
Ah yes...it's a new plug in that's coming out in the Nik range ;)
Nice vid! thanks :)
Glyn, what's that "analog efex pro" that showed in your list in photoshop? :) Thanks for the tutorial!

Hi Robert. Sorry...are you trying to color correct a photograph in Photoshop that you've taken with your phone?
Hi Glyn

How do I get that nik collection color efex pro 4? Is it a add on? Can't find it.
I think there is a much easier way. On a curves adjustment layer Alt or Option + click "Auto"; tick "Find Dark & Light Colors" and "Snap Neutral Midtones".
nice
