I remember way back in the mid 80's when Daryl was playing with sting on the French tour and he was awesome along with Omar Hakim on drums and they were a great combination together.
I interviewed Darryl in Shreveport Louisiana at Blade Studios, for the film trade magazine, "Filming Louisiana." I found his passion for his music and great knowledge for his art enthralling. I cannot wait to hear his latest album when it is released.
"I found the J-Bass...maybe Jaco Pastorius had a little bit to do with that." This was the largest understatement in bass history, right next to "Darryl Jones is an ultra-musical, under-recognized bass titan." Also, P-Bass forever.
eight inches sure, but still, no one cares about them. Ask anyone in the street to name 3 bassists. You would lucky if they give you a name after McCartney. (if they think about him as a bassist in the first place lol)
CastelDawn Bill Wyman, Noel Redding, John Paul Jones, Jack Bruce, Timothy B. Schmidt, Glenn Cornick, John Ernstwhile (spelling?), etc. PS...people do think of McCartney as a bassist.
James Jamerson, Bootsy Collins, John Paul Jones, Rick James, Flea, Stuart Zender, Bill Wyman, Jermaine Jackson, Noel Redding, John Deacon, Gene Simmons, Jason Newstead,
Robert Massarelli....... you are so right my friend. check out Willie weeks on everything is everything on the Donny Hathaway live album. Wow!!!! My brother used to listen to this cranked up loud on massive home made speakers in our basement. Needles to say .........every floor, 2 to be exact.......was resonating and vibrating with Willie weeks powerful bass line. Yeah, back in the 70's.......everything was everything. Peace and love.🎶🎶🎶
Alphonso Johnson wasn't on Weather Report's "Mysterious Traveler." That was Miroslav Vitous whose sounds created with such stark clarity and boldness unlike everyone who followed since -- Johnson, Bailey, Jaco. Just one's man opinion.
Amazing bassist. Compare Wyman & Jones bass playing, if you can. Mick & Keith don’t mind him doing his own thing with Stones music. Now Keith & Ronnie are supposedly dry, their last gigs were really tight & brilliant. The tempo & timing has improved beyond belief. Reckon Charlie & Jones are in a league of their own.
I Agree, he doesn’t get enough respect due to the time in which he came in. People don’t seem to get that it’s not really about the money as much as the respect one is worthy of.
I thought he played Lakland basses as they make his Signature Daryl Jones Lakland bass. P bass just has the one tone and you change it by playing it differently or changing strings. Jazz basses hum. Leo Fender made better basses when he designed the Stingray and G&L basses.
Played a stingray for a bit and it may have been the comfiest bass ever until your hands get sweaty. If only companies would start putting a little less gloss on the back of their necks.
The thing about Darryl is that he actually performs his job the same Wyman. He simply does what needs to be done while adding a bit of his own thinking without getting in the others way. So, Darryl actually brings a lot of good to the Stones. I think it’s hard for a lot of Stones fans to appreciate that due to Wyman being an official member for years and was around in the earlier days. It’s hard to let go of original recipe. But if people actually listen to Darryl‘s playing they’ll hear that he serves the music what it needs when it needs it similar to Wyman. So, the wobble is still there, a new player is simply providing it. Darryl’s innovation is largely outside of the Stones, due to his not being an official member. But he is known for having brought a lot to bass over the years. As to Wyman isn’t recognise, it could have something to do with Wyman’s end. Based the documentary I saw of him recently, I get the sense that he wanted to be hidden a bit more as far as the Stones was concerned.
@@JRCGuitarist Jones is a great player but he does nothing for me in the Stones. Bill Wyman had a very unique way of phrasing and creating bass lines. Jones is slick and smooth but very generic sounding in the Stones.

Yeah...and then 20 years playing shite music with Mick.
I first saw the duo of Daryl and Omar at the Hollywood bowl, playing in Miles Davis' band. Wow!

He seems like a really awesome guy. Thank you!
Love Darryl Jones!
Me too.
He is from America and the heartbeat for the Stones, how cool is that. He is the man.
South America, Central America or North America?
"I found the J-Bass...maybe Jaco Pastorius had a little bit to do with that." This was the largest understatement in bass history, right next to "Darryl Jones is an ultra-musical, under-recognized bass titan." Also, P-Bass forever.
Absolutely! Sold my 1966 fender Jazz
Bass because I really never needed to use it. My 72 precision is going to be buried with me ☺️
Alphonso Johnson is the man. Very underrated player. Very overshadowed by Jaco haha
"I wish I could play bass like Daryl"
Anthony R. Yup Mr Jones played with Miles Fucking Davis
WTF Mr Jones is the bassist for Miles to the Stones get under it.
It's funny how Darryl has been the Rolling Stones bassist for 20 some years now but he's not considered a Stone. He 's like a hired gun.
meh, no one cares about bass players anyway
CastelDawn
Well you're wrong there. Bass players and drummers are a bands rhythm section. Without a good rhythm section your band sucks.
eight inches

His bass playing reminds me of Abe Laboriel (who presumably played bass on Rise by Herb Alpert
I love him. Once day when his generation is gone, it will really suck.
Willie Weeks had a great Precision sound. Check out Donny Hathaway Live recordings/videos.

Darryl Jones worlds greatest bassist !👍💗💜💙👌💓💚💕💝💋💞💫✌👄⏫❇🌠🗽🔅💜💗💯✔

Yes he was bro both Alphonso and Miroslav - Miroslav played upright bass on track 2
the incredible FREDDIE " READY FREDDIE " WASHINGTON played the P bass on the forget me nots tune

around twenty to be exact. You been doing Hard Time???
sorry Mr D.,I thought Patrice Rushun played a Gibson Grabber on Forget me Not
Freddy Washington played a '72 P-bass on Forget Me Nots
He's gotta be holding back the laughter sitting in front of that ridiculous Fender coffee table.
This man needs more credit than he is given
He s earned his place,I hope he is getting a progressive $ over all the years he s been with them.
I Agree, he doesn’t get enough respect due to the time in which he came in. People don’t seem to get that it’s not really about the money as much as the respect one is worthy of.
I want that coffee table.
@johnny1972ism Are you joking? He replaced Bill Wyman. He's been with the Stones for almost twenty years.
D Angelo + Steve Jordan

He does play Laklands, and he endorses them. He plays others though, including the Fender P.
LJPV777 Take one of those sponges with the green scrubby part and slide it over your neck. It takes the finish off without damaging the neck.
#DaryllJones #RollingStones #Mach3
munchie!
Habib faye, Étienne mbapee. Richard bonna
P basses are OK but I prefer J basses. Fretted or fretless I love J basses.
Sooo... Paul Simonon looks like Dr House nowadays, did ya notice? Then Darryl Jones must be Foreman...
That's some suntan Bill's got.
Nice suntan Bill !!!
what does this have to do with the subject thread
Fender are so expensive 1550 for one no way
Matteo Salafricaprobably one of the least expensive, world class basses made. skip a few meals.
Better eating
Matteo Salafrica Mexican Fenders can be had used for about a third of that...
Matteo Salafrica cheaper than a Gibson
inching closer to $2000 for a new Fender bass and still doesn't nearly as good as the older ones
I never saw him at parties or on stage.
Great player but the wobble left with Wyman
Bill is extremely underrated...he's a very innovative player and made that machine work!

I had a beautiful Squire P Bass. It was white with tortoise pick guard... someone stole it.
Terrible.
no, definately a precision.
Pea bass in the subtitles lol
It’s a P Bass not a Pea Bass lol
he clearly looks stoned.
Great player but he looks like Pepe the Frog.
Was not aware the stones had a black band member
his eyes are bulging he might have a thyroid problem
His bulging eyes he might have a thyroid problem
...he's totally Blipped.
