This Northern fella has helped me no end become a competent DIY'er. I am already a qualified painter and decorator, so to look up this channel just furthers any skills. I even fixed my pensioner mates toilet. Plumber wanted 50 quid, I ordered the part for him and it cost £11.00. Not to mention my Mum's problem with her light fitting, last year. Top bloke! Thank you so much and love that accent! I'm not doing bad 'for a Girl!'

Thank you! I always struggle with these! literally just bought a silicone gun and spent half an hour trying to release the mechanism before resorting to you tube...it was the thing you point out in the first five seconds, how to use the lever at the back. Which now I see it, works perfectly. I'd still be struggling away now if hadn't found your video, so thank you again!

Thanks for this video! I am a retired lady (irish was my dog) and an avid HGTV watcher here in the USA. Now that I am retired I have lots of time to take on some home repair! I enjoy interior design but we will see how much I like being a handyman...or is it a handy-lady! I was going to have ask the sales person at the hardware store how to use a caulking gun!! You saved me from that bit of embarrassment!! I loved your soap on the finger for smoothing caulk lines..very neat for clean-up!!

I watched a few other videos and still had questions. This was by far the best video. No one showed my how to release the spring to load the caulk. The only difference is the caulk gun I have has a little hole on the side to insert the tube & cut the tip off so you don't have to use a razor. Also has a swivel pin-type thing to insert in the tube to release any build up to open up the flow of the caulk. Thanks - now I can go fix my project.

Thanks, female diyer her, first time I used a Caulk gun. I followed your other video, how to drill through tiles, first time, no cracks and was able to put my mum cooker chimey hood on. The only issue was, there was a big gap in the ceiling border from the previous chimney hood. Thankfully, my local screwfix had decorative caulk on hand, was only a £1 and brought a caulk gun. Was a big gap, so once I used the caulk gun, using a spreader to push the filler in so it doesn't fall out. Now, it looks a bit ugly, waitng for that to dry before going over it to get a smoother result. Once it has dried, will give it a sand and then paint over it. Many thanks for the easy video.

Great thanks! I use these so rarely, I always forget how to open them! I've been tugging away at the little lever for ages thinking that must be how to remove the old, dried cartridge, but I never thought of pulling the plunger back. D'oh! The rest of the video is good too. I like the washing up liquid tip. I usually just use bare fingers and that tends to be a bit messy. Nice work, thanks.

The video was very useful. I filled the gaps between the cupboard and the wall today. Additional thing I would like to mention is that I had to get a wet cloth/water (realized in the middle) to remove any spill overs and wipe the fingers; a thread, as I did not find a right fit screw to close; Filling area that was horizontally facing downwards was bit difficult compared to vertical/horizontal fills. Once again thanks.

Installing a screw in the end of the tube works great and if you hang the tube upside down in your work space or service truck it will last much longer. Also when buying any caulk make sure there's recent date code on the tube. Otherwise the product may not adhere or cure correctly. Retired electrician mechanic 25 years used a lot of caulk in my time.

Thanks from Australia. I've been buggerising around trying to work out how best to apply the filler on our patio ceiling. Your tips were spot on what I needed. I eventually worked out for myself how to release the trigger, to relieve the pressure & stop the stuff dribbling away. Really liked the tip of the 45 degree cut & the screw going into the tip after the job to help preserve the filler. Thanks again.

never knew the about using the washing up liquid but I learnt about relieving the pressure of the tube the hard way.

The difficult part I found was running my finger over it after applying the initial bead. The fair lipsquid trick will be the next method to try - i like that.
    Nice little vid.

You can also use the tip you cut off to plug the end. Good video!

To cap a silicone tube for a longer time, cut off a finger from the disposable glove you should be wearing!
Place that piece over the end tip, hold it and squeeze a little into the glove as a cap.
Squish it around the nozzle as a plug.
Apply a tight band of insulation tape around the neck of the glove finger.
This will be removable upto and over a year later and it works for grab adhesive, window caulks, acrylic, silicones too!
Mostly for DIY chappies, but it works.

That was so helpful - thank you. I didn't have a clue and your video has helped me create a pretty neat job in my bathroom, if I say so myself.

I got a tip...use Baby Wipes when caulking for wiping off stuff...ie your hands, tip of the gun etc. I
I came across this idea while I was looking for a rag. Saw some leftover Baby Wipes and thought ...sheesh those should work ok. Was great...clean up easy...throw in the trash as I went along.
Perhaps they are already a widely used thing by others when caulking.
