I , flew those for Scenic Air tours in the Hawaiian Islands in the early 80's showing and taking people to all the islands. It was one of the greatest times in my flying career. Thanks for the ride down memory lane. CFIAM/A&P JOE COVINO, Lake Havasu City, Arizona.
I can imagine Joe how nice it was to fly in the islands. I soloed off of Ford Island and later in life, flying the DC-10 into HNL was always my favorite trip.
I worked on that airplane once back in the 1990's in NC. N26PL right? Back then it belonged to Perrone Leather Co. They brought it down to NC because Charles Stites was going to write an article about it (and them) and we also did a photoshoot over Jordan Lake near Raleigh-Durham. I piloted the camera plane but didn't get that acknowledgement I was promised when it was used on the cover of Trade-A-Plane. C'est la vie!
My uncle was a sales rep for Beech at Hanscom Field back in the early 70's. Often, he invited me to look over his inventory of Beechcraft airplanes. The 18s were always my favorite, especially the H Model with the nose wheel because they were so rare. Really enjoyed the video. Enjoyed Major Wiggins' flight training stories. Interesting that he plans to keep the steam gauges.
Only to say, what a great beautiful airplane. And a nice guy keeping it. By the way the best friend you can have, is the beautiful beech 18. Always save flights.
@@1capcarl Yes Sir 🤔 When I was ten years old boy I rode my bike to the hanger if the other FBO down from a Air Heavin and saw a Beech 18 fusalodge strapped to a flatbed trailer and it looks like it was in a belly landing 😮 and I asked the guy standing by it. " Are you going to scrap it?" & He said son, that's $20,000 Of Beech 18 fusalodge and I am not going to scrap it "but 🤔 he gave me a old tecometer and an engine cylinder head tempature gauge and I took I Aircraft techomiter to use as a pretend one on my huffy 3 speed stingray style bicycle 🚲
Hey, thanks for posting. I've been seeing this airplane sitting on the line at CMA for a few months as I come in and out of there, and I've been wondering about the story behind it. I used to fly H models years and years ago - plus the turbo models. Always enjoyed them. What class...
Love the Golden Age vibe. We don't have the skills and capability to build these industrial age works of art, today. Just ask the USAF trying to buy a modern P-47 as the Light Attack Aircraft; industry says: can't be done, not at any price.
The Brazilian Airforce sold all their H 18 to Mr. Angelo Simioni, who was a pilot and Airplane Trader (he died during an Airshow with his NA T-6, PT-KSZ). My father and his partner got 1 of the H 18 as payment for the electronic works done prior sales of these beautiful and near "New" H 18. Our flew as PT-KXM. After Simioni's dead, the plane was sold.
Hey cap!!! What a great aircraft growing up my dad had a friend that had a beech 18 I'm sure you remember those but this aircraft is much nicer the visibility is incredible and the room inside from what I remember in the beech 18 is not as big you can't beat a radial engine my favorite by far my dad's stearman had a radial I would love to see this airplane hopefully I run into it while flying around socal I loved this video what a plane almost like a Electra
Hey Captain has anyone suggested you should try out for Jeopardy ? Or your own talk show ? If it works out I would be willing to waive my agent's fee in exchange for a few hours of instruction in the 210 !
The King Air has no linage from the Model 18. The entire Queen Air/King Air family of aircraft descend directly from the Model 50, better known as the Twin Bonanza.
Steve, you are correct. I owned a T Bone D50 for many years. I think what we were trying to convey was that the Beech 18's became somewhat obsolete when the turbine King Airs came out. Good comment.

He likes the look of the steam gauges. Never argue with a marine !
Polished spinners always make a classic even more classic ..... Awesome aircraft sir ! 😎😎😎

Wow, I'm jealous. What a beautiful aircraft.
It really is!
This was a great video of a fantastic plane but the conversation with the Major was the Best!
Yes it was!
Only to say, what a great beautiful airplane. And a nice guy keeping it. By the way the best friend you can have, is the beautiful beech 18. Always save flights.
Couldn't agree more!
When I flew the DC8 a lot of my F/O's were comedians - but they didn't know it. More videos please.
We have another Beech 18 video coming soon !
What a great looking machine. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful plane, thanks for inviting us along for the flight.

Great story. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful bird!!!
It really is!
As a kid I used to walk to Red Bird private airport in Dallas Texas where I occasionally had the opportunity to see that legend of civil aviation 💖🤔💯
very cool !

Carl - great video content. Thanks for sharing.

What a sweet plane. Piper missed out on this one.
She may still get a chance when we do the air to air shoot.
An interesting year (64), providing a great view -"Beech side". You all look like you're living the dream...Seasons greetings.
Happy holidays!
Absolutely beautiful airplane, congratulations Major.
Tricycle Beech 18s look to me like somehow Lockheed built a twin Constellation.
Well said!
years ago a tri gear was taxing out at Idlewild behind a TWA connie and someone heard on ground freq....' Mama'.....

Mega, It just returned to KCMA.

We can't seem to fly to the moon anymore. New technology works great half of the time.
Spectacular
It was a fun ride !

ed it should be on the field for the airshow at CMA on the 21st and 22nd.
Epic! Wow👏👏
Thank you
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL AIRCRAFT!!!!!! what was cruise speed compared to a standard 18???
the same
When I flew these things for a living in the late 70's early 80's a Covington overhaul was about 20,000. I can't even guess what one would cost now.
A ton of money !
Very cool👍
We agree !
That cockpit is so roomy!
Crazy roomy !
When it's right, you'll know it.
Very true
i like Beechcraft...my asset managers will handle this
great !
I wanted to see those pratts fire up? I guess there are pratts that sucks
Roger, we are going to get some air to air shots and start up as well. Good call.
no... im not flying T-38s...although i might lol

@@1capcarl In reality, the Twin Bonanza and the Queen Air made the Model 18 redundant. The King Air simply inflicted the coup de grace.
You put the tailwheel on the wrong end!!! All that does is reduce the useful load!
The tailwheel original version would be even more fun to fly. It is on my bucket list.
no time rn...
