Black girl who grew up in the suburbs and listened to them, even saw in concert twice. Some of the best harmonies ever. I’m lucky my parents listened to everything.
Shelia I’m a black girl too who grew up in a black neighborhood in Alabama and my parents exposed and taught us to embrace all kinds of music. I am a child of the 60’s and 70’s and my Mom had the radio on in our house all the time. We listened to a top 40 radio station and then in 1973 we got our first black r & b radio station which was owned by my cousin who was encouraged by James Brown to do so and it was amazing!!! I listened to both WLAY (top 40) and WZZA (r & b)…best of both worlds!!!

If I have to story correct, they were all at a party at Frank Zappa's home, and had never met each other before then. As musicians will, they decided to start jammin', and after a couple tunes, Crosby, with all 3 of them being pretty stunned by their chemistry, just said" Well, I think we now know what we'll be doing for the next couple of years!".

Jamal, being an old, OLD lady, I LOVE watching your reactions to all the different music that us older people grew up on. And that you get it, see the beauty in all of it. Thank you, way cool.

Thork Hammer couldn’t agree more. I truly, truly feel bad for those who didn’t grow up with this music. I was only 8 months old when Woodstock happened, but my father constantly had music playing. Either in the house (loud enough to hear outside while I was playing) or in his work van. My memories of the early-late 70's weren’t just memorable... they were grand.
I agree with you totally. I love how popular the Beatles are with young people today! I grew up with the Beatles and are my favorite band. They changed music forever!

I saw their first show after Judy Blue Eyes came out. Fillmore East, Friday night, early show. It was their first song, and I think they may have been worried about the reaction they would get. We all clapped and hollered and they jumped around high-fiving each other. Hearing the song brings it all back.
These songs of csn are simple amazing esp when you realize this is the very beginning. When they came together and actually heard themselves imagine the feeling they had it’s just mind blowing
You are making this virus problem totally enjoyable. I love music as you do. I feel the joy of growing up in the 70s! I'm glad you are loving the "oldies". It brings a big smile to my heart and soul. Btw, you have the cutest dimples that I've seen. God bless you and yours Jamal.
Of of the greatest "long songs" of the rock and roll era. And Stills is so underrated as an acoustic guitarist. His playing is magnificent, and the transitions in this song are faultless. This song never gets old.
All these many years, and there's still never been a song like this. I was mesmerized back in the day hearing it on the radio. And still am. Harmonies, words, pecussion, and it all goes bloody nuts at the end. Magic.
Being an old fart I especially love the line "Don't let the past remind us of what we are now." Everybody changes and hopefully growing and becoming a better human being.
I hear it as "Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now." It means, to me, when you think back on really happy times enjoying your happy memories, dont get down thinking you'll never have those great feelings that you once had when you were young or younger.than you are now. If you get older, I think most everybody does that. You miss those types of great times and feelings you had in life when you were younger, and you realize that things are different now and you are also older and are afraid you'll never get those types of great times and feelings back like you had when you were younger - than you are now. Don't let that happen. Don't give up on yourself being able to continue to be thankful and happy enjoying special moments in your life. That is what this song means to me, anyway. Stephen is saying this (in the song's lyrics) to his ex girlfriend who he misses and wants back in his life.
That bass breakdown is epic. The entire So Far album is a masterpiece. No one can do harmony like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I stole that album from my dad 20 years ago, and never gave it back.
the Spanish Meant " How happy it makes me to think of Cuba, the smiles of the Caribbean Sea, Sunny sky has no blood, and how sad that I’m not able to go Oh go, oh go go "
Fun fact: Stephen Stills auditioned to be in the Monkees. He didn't get the job, but probably to his benefit. I'd love to see you react to some Monkees songs. Last Train to Clarksville, Daydream Believer, even their TV show theme song.
I don't think I have said this on this song with you but this is my parents song as they loved it so much when they were courting. My dad had perfect pitch and sang this to her. This whole album was a "house" album in our house and still is. They have been married for 46 years and still in love. So happy you like it.
My favorite song by this super group. It was the first one that I heard them sing, and I've never tired of it. Love the way your background matches the album background.
OH...you are so lovely! Thank you so much, for listening to our favorite songs. That you can hear this one time, and give it so much open attention, thank you. It is so much fun, to see you dance, and notice I am making the same exact moves, it's a gift. I was so excited to see your happy face as soon as they sang, "how can you catch the SPARROW? I hug you as my brother for that. Have a great night, everyone....
And, these sublimely talented men would replicate this harmony perfectly live.....before they got all pissed at each other. Catch some live vids for your own pleasure.
I'm so happy to be a part of that generation. We didn't have all the techno audio wizardy stuff they use today. No synthesizers, 50 track mixers with punch in/out or auto tune. We just got together (maybe with a cheap tape recorder running) and started playing the tunes and singing them for the world to hear. And some of us got pretty well known for those songs. It was the times and the way everyone felt as though we could change the world by telling our stories through music. And we DID.
I love the parts where their voices lift up together and float off into the ether. When I watch your reactions I always feel like we are having this musical experience together,

7:27-this was the reaction I was hoping for. Thank you, Jamel.
And, you’re welcome.
Of of the greatest "long songs" of the rock and roll era. And Stills is so underrated as an acoustic guitarist. His playing is magnificent, and the transitions in this song are faultless. This song never gets old.
The guitar in this song is definitely magnificent.
Some of the best voices in the business.
".....of what we are *_not_* now
I am 15 lol 😂
I hear it as
"Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now."
It means, to me, when you think back on really happy times enjoying your happy memories, dont get down thinking you'll never have those great feelings that you once had when you were young or younger.than you are now.
Bla bla bla, it can be summarized by saying to exist is to experience constant change. That's it.
Right On Brother 👍✌️
That bass breakdown is epic. The entire So Far album is a masterpiece. No one can do harmony like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I stole that album from my dad 20 years ago, and never gave it back.
the Spanish Meant " How happy it makes me to think of Cuba,
the smiles of the Caribbean Sea,
Sunny sky has no blood, and how sad that
I’m not able to go
Oh go, oh go go "
Several voices that sound like one. Amazing. My era of music. The real deal.
Takes me back to Jr. HIGH - always loved singing to this song while doing my chores and harmonizing this with my friends. It was like magic.
Ugh I love this song. CSN and CSNY have some absolute bangers. You can’t go wrong. And each individual’s solo stuff is all great too.
If you look up Harmony in the dictionary, ...I believe it says "Crosby, Stills and Nash".
And sometimes Young
...and Cantrell/Staley
Beach boys
Beach Boys, Beatles or Bee Gees
@@alrivers2297 all great for their harmonies. you forgot Simon And Garfunkel
For another song of theirs with multiple parts and some Stephen Stills electric guitar, try "Carry On".
Not to mention EPIC harmonies!
PLease, please, please do some more CSN or CSNY.
Agree! Carry On is even more musically adventurous than this song. Ohio right after that.
Yes. CSN are so talented.
Plus the deep message. Classic CSN 💖
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes is one of my favorite songs. You should listen to Black Water by the Doobie Brothers for some more excellent harmonies.
Omg such a great song
I believe he already did a reaction to Black Water.
The Doobies played "Black Water" and other classics live on the sitcom "What's Happening." Good times.
Absolutely!
Gregg Reeves a brother played bass, it can't be understated how unreal it is, it drives the groove constantly.
I love the journey you’re on sir! You can’t go wrong with any of the music you’re choosing. Such goodness and positive vibes!!! Stay safe my friend.
Fun fact: Stephen Stills auditioned to be in the Monkees. He didn't get the job, but probably to his benefit.
I'd love to see you react to some Monkees songs. Last Train to Clarksville, Daydream Believer, even their TV show theme song.
You gotta hear David Crosby's guitar part in 8 Miles High, when he was with the Byrds. It will blow you away
I don't think I have said this on this song with you but this is my parents song as they loved it so much when they were courting. My dad had perfect pitch and sang this to her. This whole album was a "house" album in our house and still is. They have been married for 46 years and still in love. So happy you like it.
Many may disagree with me, but I think this is their greatest song. Impeccable harmonies and effortless transitions.
Judy Collins said Tuesday mornings were the days she went to therapy, she appreciated Steven's mentioning it.
This is one of the greatest songs ever written. Your reaction made me happy. I NEVER get tired of these harmonies.
My favorite song by this super group. It was the first one that I heard them sing, and I've never tired of it. Love the way your background matches the album background.
Gorgeous harmonies, heartfelt, poetic lyrics and marvelous guitar playing and rhythms! Just exceptional.
Judy Collins who has incredible blue eyes is a Great artist herself
Possibly the greatest beauty on stage of that era.
@@jamessweet5341 James ironically when I heard the title for Judy blue eyes I thought it was Sweet Judy blue eyes like your last name LOL.
And, these sublimely talented men would replicate this harmony perfectly live.....before they got all pissed at each other. Catch some live vids for your own pleasure.
I would love it if you would please react to “Teach your children” one of my favorite CSN songs
The lyrics just may bring a tear to his eyes 😊
GREAT song 🎶
Captain MufDyven yes I agree with what he said I think anyone can relate to this song
Anita R Swillinger yes I think it might
I'm so happy to be a part of that generation.
And we DID.
I've been enjoying this song for 50 years, and I never knew the story behind it. Thanks!
Google images of Judy Collins & take a look at those blue eyes. Saw a recent interview with her & Stephen. In their 70's & still very close friends.💙
For the younger ones, don't miss out on the whole "Four Way Street" Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young live album, it's a gem. Regards
Love that record..
4 way st ..... GREAT ALBUM
@@MrPlooky That was the first album I ever bought!
HE PLAYED WITH NEIL YOUNG AND BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD. CROSBY WAS WITH THE BYRDS, NASH WAS WITH THE HOLLIES. :) HOPE YOU GOT ALL THAT.
Bob Delp you left out Stills was also in Manassas
@@brucetapert9045 What a great band Manassas was! I absolutely love that double album!
Love the Hollies... Their songs have a certain atmosphere.
I love the parts where their voices lift up together and float off into the ether. When I watch your reactions I always feel like we are having this musical experience together,
This song moves my soul. I have great memories of listening to this with great friends and I’m instantly transported back to those days when I hear this now.
