Nice you met Dawn Marie Summers (Marie's not her middle name, but it oddly fits her) played by Michelle Trachtenberg. She worked with SMG on the now-late daytime soap opera, "All My Children". They're still friends and informal foster sisters to this day. Freddie Prinze Jr, SMG's husband, even taught her how to drive.
Trust us all here Dakara: this season requires your patience, but it's THE greatest season of television ever.

Who's been attracted to Xander list: Willow the Witch, Praying Mantis Lady, Inca Mummy Girl, Kendra the Slayer, Cordelia (she now has visions and a link to The Powers That Be), Anya the former Vengeance Demon, and now Dawn... Notice a pattern?
The best way to understand the superb Season 5 is to just sit back and enjoy. Everyone has received the information to solve the puzzle, but they have been left over several seasons...yes over a long period of time. Do not fret or be confused I enjoy your upbeat reactions and keep it going. Buffy is ramping up the storylines and character development that makes the show special and the most underrated show in television history. Go with your initial thoughts and do not overthink. The ride is the payoff, and your prize will be a very unique and wonderful story.
Season 5 is actually my least liked season. But then again, season 6 is my favourite, and I know lots of people despise it.

I agree but I view the entire Buffyverse differently now. I see Buffy in 3 different acts. The first covers the initial 3 seasons ending with high school. The next 3 are the young adult making life choices and mistakes. Season 7 stands alone to make everyone who they are and are to become. Season 6 us the second half of the play that is Season5. Season 6 makes no sense without season5. @@jossland1628

Good to finally get a Dawn-centric episode. her character was really ignored in the previous seasons

Personally I love the fact that this episode doesn't just immediately give away the answers to what's going on and why Dawn is instantly there. It's better that we get to know the new main character first.
I don't blame Dawn for unintentionally inviting Harmony in so much as I blame Xander for opening the door and confronting/talking to her to begin with. Same goes for Buffy. Blaming Dawn, not only when Xander opened the door to confront Harmony instead of ignoring her, but also blaming her when her mom (who, with her own words, said she invited Dracula in because she was lonely and not because she was under a thrall) invited one of the most famous vampires into the house one week earlier. Even if Dawn is to blame for her part, Xander and Joyce have known the rules longer. What's their excuse and why isn't Buffy chastising/yelling at either of them? Everything Buffy says once she's worried about them equates to their mistakes as well. Perhaps that is why Buffy doesn't rat Dawn out for going outside. Because maybe she realizes she is just as much at fault for Dawn being outside. Her being upset enough to say what she did made a fourteen year old upset to the point of wanting to distance herself with breaking rules. The difference is she is fourteen, while Xander is 20 and Joyce is in her forties. I don't give them leeway compared to Dawn.
If Tara feels like an outsoder to the group, Willow isn't going to change that. Not when Tara was using herself as a way totry getting Dawn to be more accepted. Willow missed Tara's point completely.
The coming of Dawn was foreseen in Buffy’s dreams. 🤠
To be fair to Giles and Spike, Passions was an amazing campy delight.

Good Reaction :^)... I'm glad Dawn is finally getting more screen time. Now that she's a teenager she can be more involved in the monster fighting and Scooby Gang side of things... I don't understand people's confusion about Dawn.

Oddly, most people who watched the series never noticed Dawn. She played a minor role (but major series arc) WAY back in Season 2. 🙂

Sure, jokes can be amusing on it... but literally EVERYONE won't shut up with their "very clever jokes" and it quickly becomes extremely unfunny ><

Such a great time in the show. You had some excellent incites. This is where the show really builds in a lot of the setup they've been making the whole show. I'm not going to say much, because this isn't the time. I will give a very cryptic clue.
Season two's episode Ted built up some of the lore that is vitally important to understanding an aspect of this episde. It's not the only episode, it's one of many.
Have fun and enjoy the confusion. Like with WandaVision, you only get that first experience once.
It is my favourite season as well, but yes, I will wait and just watch. There is a special place in hell for people who spoil things.

Posting my BUFFY REWATCH recap for ‘Real Me’. May contain spoilers.
With this episode we have the introduction of a brand new main character... only we’re not supposed to think of her as brand new. We are given no explanation as to why Dawn Summers has never been mentioned before the start of this season until later in it. Therefore, it’s odd to us how all the other characters act as if she’s always been there with them. Part of their lives as Buffy’s little sister.
That being said - it means we have to acknowledge that all the other characters have had different experiences and situations happen to them than what we have seen and remember with the inclusion of Dawn to the show. Especially with Tara - who Dawn has seemed to have established a personal connection with more than anyone else. And it appears that the reason why is that they’re both outsiders to the tight-knit team of the Scooby Gang family. They feel excluded.
When Dawn is told to wait outside the Magic Box store while the Gang deal with the murder of the owner, Tara eventually goes looking for Dawn, knowing that she has no real business helping the other characters with their detective work. They bond and share in their discomfort at being “in the way” as “non-Scoobies”.
Later, as Willow and Tara are unpacking belongings in an apartment - now taking the step of moving into an off-campus living environment together, Tara relays her concerns about Dawn feeling left out - to which Willow intuitively senses that it’s not just Dawn that feels that way. Tara does too. And she refuses to let the conversation drop when Tara tries to change the subject. As I mentioned in my recap for ‘Hush’ - this is one of the ways in which Willow and Tara bond emotionally. In being outcasted or rejected from society. In their individual feelings of being ostracized or invalidated in particular. And here’s the thing - every protagonist character does to some degree at different points in the show. In this season, it appears to be Tara and Dawn that does as they are the “newbies” to the group dynamic and haven’t really found their feet in how they can be useful or beneficial to the team-working machine yet. As the season progresses, we learn much more about these characters and we see the romantic relationship between Tara and Willow really blossom because of it.

When I reached season 5, I remembered that little tidbit, but since you don't, it would feel spoilery to just tell you.
So, I will wait until you have reached a point, when it will no longer spoil anything, before I share it.

Trying not to spoil your reactions, but it's it's going to be hard. Love the way you're analyzing Dawn and her assessment of the group, particularly what she thinks of Willow. Harmonys' inclusion in the episode was great. She always gets a laugh. I think I said it before, but it does bear repeating - Harmony is too stupid to be evil.

Don't worry, you are not alone. First time round we had no idea where Dawn came from either. People who now say they did...didn't. It's only on re-watching that you pick up the subtle little references. Answers however are slow in coming. You just have to stick with it and enjoy the ride. We'll be here with you all the way!
I don't understand why people act like they don't recognize dawn. Sure Michelle Trachtenberg grew a lot since the last season. But it's not like we haven't been watching her grow up the last four seasons, since she was 10.

These clever comments hinting at the season are just there to spoil the reactors experience, fuck them and switch off comments .
It's sad how they gave Dawn so little screen time in the beginning of the show but this episode really makes up for it.

This was adorable. The way Willow just came and embraced her. Held on to her knowing she was feeling the way she was feeling. See she can be so giving sometimes. It just depends where her head is at.
You know I think part of the reason Willow was so insistent on convincing Tara that she wasn’t an outsider and that she was useful is because she hates feeling that way herself. And she won’t let her girlfriend think of herself in that way. Tara is supposed to remind us of the early Willow with the shyness etc.
But I just think it’s far more justified for Tara than it ever is for Willow to feel so insecure. I’m not saying Willow’s insecurities aren’t valid. They certainly are. It’s just if you’re comparing emotional strength - it’s clearly Tara that wins with this because she’s gone through far more bullying and abuse and ostracizing.
But then I also understand that different people feel different things to different degrees. There really isn’t a bar for how one feels or should feel based on the situation or circumstance. It’s a spectrum of emotion.
Real Me is where we get to meet Dawn properly. Of course she is a stroppy teenager, and causes Buffy all sorts of problems, but it will all make sense shortly. Dawn is a pivotal character for the this Season. The writers were just laying the groundwork. Dawn's story will again make sense shortly as the arc of the Season develops. Great scene when Dawn thinks it's just Xander who is going to babysit, then Anya turns up. The sibling rivalry well portrayed too, with Buffy being as annoying as Dawn when they both talk about each other. Comedy gold again from Harmony, possibly the most underrated character in The Buffyverse, from High School Airhead to Vampire Airhead. 'Ah Slayer at last we meet at last'. Hilarious!
Harmony's basically the Harley Quinn of the Buffyverse. 🙂
So Buffy was laughing her a** off when she learned that Harmony has a gang. And guess what, 2 hours later they captured Dawn. Was also really funny, right, Buffy? I don't like arrogance.
And I like how Dakara reacts to Harmony. She has a humble smile but understands everything at the same time. Not full of negative emotions, arrogance, disdain and despise like they write someone else there. But it only shows that the author is like this.
I can’t believe you never noticed Dawn. Remember in the 1st episode when Joyce brought Buffy to school, and Dawn was in the back seat. Joyce said she was keep Dawn home for a bit, because she was still upset about the move and the divorce. I guess it’s not completely you fault, because they had to reduce Michelle Tratchtenberg role in the show early on because she kept blowing her lines, & they didn’t want to recast her.
Has it occurred to you that you just ignored her for the 1st 4 seasons? Maybe you should go back and re-watch the 1st four seasons.
