I live in Topeka, KS, so the drive to their facilities is only a couple of hours away. I've visited their offices and their pressing plant a few times. Great, passionate people work there. I'll continue to buy their LPs.
@4:20 - Dave Brubeck's 'Time Out' Is forever a classic GREAT. Wasn't that recorded in 1959?
I have around 100 Mofi standard albums and round 30 Analogue Productions albums, as well as 9 Mofi One-Steps and 4 UHQRs. I can listen to either of them (Mofi / Analogue Productions) and be completely blown away with the sound. I bought the Counting Crows press when they did their 1st run back in 2012 and have alway been stunned how good that album sounds.
I think they both do a great job of releasing incredible sounding albums. I only have a few MoFi albums but they definitely sound great. MoFi (at least prior to digital step controversy) has long been held up as the pinnacle of audiophile releases, but I think AP is going to start taking more and more of MoFi’s market share over the next couple of years.
I get all my inner sleeves through acoustic sounds. They're the same as mofi and I buy in bulk so they're cheaper.
I've had some QC issues with both companies, Analogue productions always makes it right. One order 4/6 LPs had off center spindle holes including the 45 Kind of Blue UHQR. The other was Getz/Gilberto.
The UHQR of Are you Experienced I had to contact a couple times. it arrived without liner notes and two copies of the included ad. When I contacted them for a replacement they send TWO (for some reason) copies of the certificate of authenticity. After contacting again they finally sent (another) two copies of the liner notes. So I have 2 ads, three CoAs and 2 liner notes in the end.
Almost all of my MoFis have some sort of surface scratching including one steps, there's bad sibilance on Dire Straits self titled album Side 1 (they never responded to my email about it) and the more recent titles stopped including the wrap around ads that kept the LPs from sliding around so they have seam splits.
Analogue productions/QRP gets the last laugh on that one because all the MoFis end up on a QRP sleeve after cleaning lol
OH MY GOODNESS. 4 out of 4 with analogue productions. Terrible. Only 1 out of 3 records was actually a round circle. 2 out of 4 could not go down onto the spindle. Pressed them down, had to shimmy and flex the record to get it back off the platter. UNREAL for this price. Yet so many other pressing plants who do NOT claim to be the best in the world seem to know how to make ROUND RECORDS EVERY SINGLE TIME and never have residue all over every record with chips of dried vinyl still stuck to the record which gave it scratches on the way to me. I frankly don't care that they offered to swap them out. 4 out of 4 is A TOTAL FAIL. At those prices they should be ashamed. But they're not. They didn't care at all. I will NEVER buy from them again and will continue to warn vinyl record buyers to steer clear of those gouging clowns. I gave them a chance to make it right and they could not have cared less. Thankfully, I recorded my unboxing. I will be posting at some point. I genuinely have no idea how these people are not embarrassed to go on the internet and claim they are the best in the world and charge four, five and six times what the records should cost. They claim it goes into the "extra care and attention to detail." Nonsense. Chad is a total fraud. I can't stand how many people get turned off to vinyl due to this price-gouging. I can afford it. But many can't. I will spend my money elsewhere. I urge you to do the same.
I agree with you about the Counting Crow album! Amazing quality overall!!!
8:11 I couldn't agree more.
you know I don't know I have about four or five mofi releases and probably about 10 analog production. for my money I just like the analog production better, I guess one of the reasons being is cost, consistently the prices on them are better than the mofi releases
.also the other thing too I guess is the fact that with the analog production I can't help but get the feeling I'm hearing stuff I've never heard before ,where with the mofi I sort of feel like I'm just kind of hearing what I've always heard from those particular releases just they're a bit less noisy and maybe a bit more dynamic.
My favorite album I have of analog is the best of the James gang
AP is hands down the best. Chad and company really know what they’re doing
I’ve definitely been more interested in their last eat releases more than what MoFi has put out.
Is MoFi still a consideration here. I just unloaded all mine at a local record store for a fair price.
Ive purchased a lot from Analogue Productions great quality, got all 6 Doors , an a few others.
Hands down AP / no contest....
Agreed AP is better
It's Chad. All the way. MFSL is good, but they've learned not very much in terms of full package quality and QC.
You lost me at Counting Crows.
AP all the way over Mofi
