As the producer of the 15th Anniversary DVD and the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray, I can tell you that no commentary was ever recorded. Mick Jackson was unavailable in 2006 and Steve Martin declined to participate (despite ongoing pleading at the time from producer Daniel Melnick). For the 30th, Mr. Jackson immediately agreed to sit down for the new interview (I literally received a phone call from him less than an hour after submitting the request with his reps) but he told me straight away he wasn’t interested in recording a commentary. But thanks for the great review!
Thanks for the interesting info, and thanks for helping get this release finally out the door. I have the Japanese blu-ray, but I think I might still pick this up for the special features and DTS-HD audio. Is this a new scan of the negative? Also, was there just no budget for a 4K release, or is the negative lost or something? Thank you!
@@KevinBrian as far as I know it’s not a new scan but it IS a new encode, which should be improved over previous international releases. As for 4K, it was hard enough to justify getting this released to Blu-ray so a new 4K transfer and release was definitely out of the question. LA Story didn’t even get carried in store by places like Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Target so the only way people knew to buy it was if they ALREADY knew it was being released. These Carolco films are actually part of the Studio Canal library and they generally call the shots, but in the case of LA Story I at least had the room to create the new Interview with director Mick Jackson and also update/fix some of the special features I produced for the 15th Anniversary DVD in 2006.
@@MrOffthecliff Great information, again-thank you, Cliff! Just received the Blu-ray from Amazon, as I very much wanted to support your work and thank the studio for finally putting out a disc. It’s a very well done Blu-ray-I love the new interview. Mick seems like a nice man, and it’s great to hear him discuss the film. Some of those deleted scenes are priceless (Scott Bakula?!), and I appreciate that they’re fully edited scenes. The location tour is great, too, especially if you live in L.A., which I do. All this to say, well worth the $11 for any fan of this film. Maybe when you’re making the 40th anniversary disc you can convince them to give us that 4K scan, ey? :) Thank you, again!
I like this movie as a time capsule for the early 90s, which I miss terribly. 1990 was a weird time, it had all the bombast of the late 80s with a lot of insane experimentation that doesn't fit with any of the rest of the decade, especially with colors.
If you like Steve Martin you should really check out his new show “Only Murders in the Building” it’s probably my favorite performance of his since his earlier work
What’s crazy about this movie for me is I originally thought it was just ok when I watched it when I lived in Louisiana. But when I moved to LA and say it again I found it brilliant because so many of the little jokes ring true about the lifestyle out here and I appreciated it on a whole new level. Can’t wait to pick it up.
What a coincidence. We have an out of town campsite we own have have an RV. No internet so I always keep Blu Rays and DVDS handy in our trailer. I just so happened to watch LA Story on DVD last night in bed. It looked surprisingly good for DVD. Going to stick with what I because this just isn’t a title I am going to revisit often. Especially since I already have it at least on DVD.
@@midlevelmedia Glad u liked it Ken it's a cool movie so many cameos the acting is good story by Steve Martin is quirky its a snapshot of LA during the late 80s and it just works. I'm getting mine next week from Best buy and I still have the original DVD..👍
Never really heard of this movie but sounds good, Steve Martin is always great. Have you watch Casual S3X yet? (Had to censor that because I think RUclips will take the comment down because of that word) I was wondering if that was any good or not, I might just end up getting it.
I'm watching that tonight actually. I'll let you know, because probably won't do a stand alone review for it. Thanks for watching and consider LA Story.
In the day I worked for WB and he preformed his “ wild and crazy guy” stand up at our dinner in Florida which was great!!
Ohhh that's awesome! Martin is the best!

Yes. This really felt like a mix of both 90s and 80s.
L.A Story is one of my favorites, so glad it came to blu ray. I Have watched this one so many times, 4.5 out of 5 for me.
It was really fun! May go up for me on rewatches!
