I didn't play the original version of the game but we finally managed to buy the PS5 last week (December 7th 2021) and bought the new version. We have a surround speaker setup and at the right volume, the dragon chasing you along the bridge is genuinely spine tingling. We are in a detached house but I'm quite sure the neighbours can feel the rumbling lol. I just a few words. The game is fantastic.
I still prefer the original because of the nice bloom effect, earthier color tones and dingier textures which gives it a 80's fantasy movie lokk abd vibe to it
Can you compare Demon's Souls Remake with Dark Souls 3, it would be nice to see the different visual and artistic styles between Bluepoint and FromSoftware.
But I hope he compares Dark Souls 3 on PC in 4k (or 6k) with every setting maxed out. Same with Sekiro. I wonder what THESE results what look like. Might surprise some people...
This is the power of skipping over a gen before getting a remake/remaster. The fine folks at Bluepoint are masters of faithfully remaking beloved titles.
17:10 you can, by either playing offline or staying in Soul form though. The whole concept of human/ember form in DeS and future souls games is that it's a risk-reward system. If you're in Human form you have more HP (except DKS1) and have an ability to summon friendly phantoms at the cost of exposing yourself to potential invaders if you were to remove invasions, but keep friendly summoning, the whole concept of that risk-reward system is completely wiped (although there are world tendecy shenanigans, but it's an whole other deal)
I don't know personally I prefer the original art style. It felt much more ethereal and dream like to me and the new one whilst very high fidelity graphics wise just doesn't mesh with the old design philosophies and world design. Pretty to look at sure but as an old fan it just feels really jarring
It's really wild seeing the difference, I only just played all of these games over the past 5 years, starting on my roommates PS3 and an original copy of Demon's Souls. Playing these games all at once and seeing the transition through the generations is wild.
I can get used to the music change(except Maiden Astraea's) but what i hate about the remake, is the voice acting. It sounds off; if you compare it with the original as in Astraea's fight, it sounds more emotional in the original
I remember having original demon souls and never getting a chance to play it because i had to many games on my plate. This time around every thing else got deleted untill I beat it lol. Also, the sound comparison part is hard to judge because it still comes down to the player's setup.
I think the old one sounds better. I have no clue how to explain it, but it seems like the new one tries to add more bassy sounds that just don’t sound right. I’m sure some of the sounds are better in the new one, but most of the sounds like hitting something with your sword, enemies falling over, and the sound of the armor just sound so off to me. That’s like 90% of the game sound as well. And the talking sounds more muted. Probably more dynamic, but that’s a problem I have with movies and stuff these days anyways. Talking is really low, so you turn it up. Then action happens and your eardrums begin bleeding. It’s not a very great change.
@@ssutuh I think Meme Henson is pointing out a problem some of us have about the design decisions. It's not a headphone/speaker problem, it's a design issue. That issue being: exaggerated, overly bassy, electronic synth, high dynamism sound design.
I'm really glad this game was my introduction to the souls franchise. I've since gotten into bloodborne and finished my first play through of elden ring
Honestly while people like the new one because it technically had better graphics. I prefer the art direction and sound design/atmosphere of the original. Also the only thing old Souls games like DeS and DS1 need are QoL changes but honestly vision I think they look just fine. Saying this as someone who started with ER. I hope they never touch DS1 or 3. DS2’s issues needs far more than a new coat of paint though. Fromsoft would need to build that from the ground up themselves
Honestly the most impressive part is the controller. You can feel an enemies footsteps around the corner a second before they jump you or when they throw fire at you. 10/10...makes you FEEL like a controller
It felt like the team who worked on the mechanics and engine work held their ground against execs but the art department and modelers bastardized it. I hate the stylistic changes they've made.
It is quite impressive the amount of environmental detail in the original game. Beds, pots, shelves, barrels and a lot of clutter, especially in Boletaria and Latria.
I played through both the original and the remake, and I feel like the original had a more, dark scary feel. I dunno why this is, maybe it is the fact that the limitations of the old one forced the devs to use lighting at bloom to set the theme, but now there are none of those limitations. Some the enemies just don’t feel scary anymore, they look and feel just like something straight out of a mmo game.
The original does some things better still, this mainly has to do with OST, boss presentation (not the graphics), and certain enemy designs. Other than that it's a great remake.
I agree with the last points you made but I think the new ost fits well into the remake. I do agree that the original ost is more memorable but it also sounds 'cartoony' and doesn't fit the atmosphere of the game.
Awww Nick,You could have at least considered adding the PC's "Remastered" Version i.e RPCS3 version into the mix too as the emulator allows you play the game at 4k60fps,even further letting you see and appreciate all the finer details, atmosphere and aesthetics of the OG had to offer Seriously playing the game at such resolution made appreciate the OG even more..I'd dare to say the PS3 didn't do enough justice.
@@Nick930 Ah...Bummer but tottaly understandable. It's just nobody bothered to make a comparison between those two. It's only just the OG console vs the new.

While I wouldn't mind the remake coming to PC, playing the original on RPCS3 at 4K60 with improved textures and working multiplayer is all I need. I prefer the sound, music and atmosphere of the original.
Visually. the remake is absolutely breathtaking. The voice acting feels a little odd across the board. Overall an incredible reimagining of an iconic game I never thought I would play again.
All high definition looks nice, but the art direction is more generic and looks like it is trying to emulate DS3 and Bloodborne setting aside the uniqueness and coherent attention to detail
Fifteen years ago, I thought PS3's Graphics was Hi-tech at the time, but now looking back and comparing to PS5's Graphics, it doesn't look that great anymore.
@@zed6740 People said that on PS1 - PS4 but there is always improvement. PS5 graphics is very good but not yet the same graphics like the real world. If you wear a VR.. you would know that it is still a fake world
There’s no denying it’s an incredible overhaul and better in just about every way, but some stylistic choices were better in the original imo. the maiden in black for example looks much more ominous and on brand in the ps3 version
The helmet design was changed for the Fluted Set in order to differenciate it from Oscar of Bolitaria's design, which retains the original helmet design. You can still get Oscar's helmet if you beat the tutorial boss.
I felt that the sound affects of the Bearbugs in 2-2 exploding sounded way more powerful in the original. False King Allant also sounded much more intimidating in the original. But I thought it was a solid remake overall.
I've been playing, and really enjoying, the remake. My only issue is that movement feels really off compared to how I remember playing the original. I don't know if it's just me or if there were some other tweaks besides the rolling.
BluePoint really does a good job of remaking games. shadow of the colossus on ps4 was amazing. i really wish they could remake the syphon Filter trilogy from the ps1.
I got a PS5 a couple years ago and I still think it was a waste of money. They still release most good games on PS4, with a few rare good PS5 exclusives. PS5 is also ugly and takes up too much space, and it practically requires you to sit it vertical.
There's still a charm from the original. The excess fog and grey colour space really created a game of its time. I really enjoy that foreboding atmosphere. I can't quite get that feeling here. The old one had such a "lost realm" vibe to it. It was dingy and damp. The new one feels more like it's within the time period that the structures were created opposed to looking at ancient ruins from the old. I can't quite put my finger on it but I'd love if there was filter on the new one to desaturate the colour space to mimic the old a bit.
I have both versions, really enjoying the remake. There's not that much to criticise but as a fan of the original I think the voice acting has lost so much of the charm from the original and some of the redesigns are not so good.
That's actually a great idea. It would really great to have GOW 1&2 on the PS5 with next-gen graphics and I personally liked the first two better than GOW 3. Plus it would give something to GOW fans who miss the old-style combat.
Completely disagree. Looking like trash and forcing brown hue over everything is not an artistic choice, but a limitation that was forced. It's not "atmospheric" lol
@@pheaseyy Not even that, the cutscene where Bluepoint added unnecessary explosion noises and a huge explosion totally changed the tone of the cutscene
Looks impressive, but it seems more like bloodborne or ds3. I dont get any gothic art design feeling in the original, seems the same, but definetly doesnt feel the same. In the remake everything is orange and blue colors contrast, mobs looks groast and evil. Thats not the finesse and classy art design in the original intention...
tcnically better of course, but a lot of unnecessary redesigns, startng with the castle, that is something that would fit more n bloodborne, it's not like the original stile was like that becaue of limitations. And i have to say sme sond effects are better in the original, like csting magic, or when the tower knight slams his shield, in the old you hear and see the stone crashing, in the new one it just goes puff with the blue flame, wich look very cool but it doesn't have the same impact when it hits
Really wished to see you talk about the soundtrack, since the new one is quite different. Actually, the new soundtrack is pretty much the only thing I didn't like at all in the remake, it's too epic/grand and doesn't really set the same tone as the original, which was a lot simpler and didn't have a wide orchestral sound, but was a lot more memorable, and matched the game's ominous and gloomy atmosphere much better. Aside from the soundtrack, the remake improved on practically everything, including the game's style (which most remakes completely ruin)
One of the best games ever made and the beginning of the souls' era games 😍 . Like many others, I'm happy that it's been resurrected and it runs on 60 FPS on PS5. Thanks for the video!
If only those guys could remake Bioshock 1/2 like they did here. Christ ! That would be so good. Game look amazing without raytracing. kuddos to the lighting artists. Insane level.
I love every aspect of the remake except for the traditional opera singer replacing Kokia. There was a uniqueness to her voice that can't be replicated.
The original was made by FromSoftware and had the more authentic look and feel IMHO. Demon's souls remake looks great visually but does it really improve on the original besides graphics?
Japan Studio created the 2008 original as their own Elder Scrolls take FromSoftware joined later combining both studios to rebuild it into what it came to be

@Virendra Singh Panwar Imagine thinking GoT has bad graphics. It's a stylized approach and looks clean. Also that shouldn't decide wether you like a game or not.
Theres a secondary fluted armor set in the Remake thats accurate to the original design. Just an FYI.
I don't know, the feel of the original seems better to me, especially in the sound. Thanks for the comparison.
CRYTEK AND SABER INTERACTIVE NEEDS TO SEE THIS LMAO

If Crytek hired Blue Point, we would see something really amazing, but at this point I think BP will not work for another company than Sony.
I still prefer the original because of the nice bloom effect, earthier color tones and dingier textures which gives it a 80's fantasy movie lokk abd vibe to it
This comparison make me remember how good was the PS3 and how I have played on that console.
Can you compare Demon's Souls Remake with Dark Souls 3, it would be nice to see the different visual and artistic styles between Bluepoint and FromSoftware.
What a great idea, hell even Sekiro. Would defintely do that if i had a ps5
Yeah, I would love to see this as well.
@Gareth El Paladín Biónico There's already a remake of MGS, matey.
Why that pfp tho
"Ray Tracing isn't everything" That is correct sir
I live 3 miles from Bluepoint’s building, and I would shake everyone’s hand there if I was allowed to. This was a fantastic remake.
haha you can leave a letter in the door right?
Yeah, let's not spread more viruses than we already do. Just buy and enjoy the game. That's the best compliment they can ask for.
@Le Groper Karen? Haha ok kiddo.
@Le Groper Yeah, you're just an idiot.
@Le Groper I love the idea of calling a black man, Karen.
Totally agree
Why? My dreams are that vivid.
yes agree and the same wit sound desgin and music
It's really wild seeing the difference, I only just played all of these games over the past 5 years, starting on my roommates PS3 and an original copy of Demon's Souls. Playing these games all at once and seeing the transition through the generations is wild.

I can get used to the music change(except Maiden Astraea's) but what i hate about the remake, is the voice acting. It sounds off; if you compare it with the original as in Astraea's fight, it sounds more emotional in the original
The new one is a pretty game, but doesn’t feel like a souls game. I prefer the original.
I remember having original demon souls and never getting a chance to play it because i had to many games on my plate. This time around every thing else got deleted untill I beat it lol. Also, the sound comparison part is hard to judge because it still comes down to the player's setup.
Dude. The atmosphere in the remake is gorgoeus!
I played like 70h, and the attention to detail still gets me.
Stunning game. Fucking stunning.
A massive technical achievement for sure, though I do worry that a ton of Fromsoft's original atmosphere and art direction got lost in translation
seems like the original game was more high fantasy themed, tbh.
What art direction, the game barely had any effects going on and I'm almost shocked it managed to have textures. Absolutely pure delusion.
Yeah bluepoint killed Demon's Souls literally
2:00 IDK why but the original kinda heavy looking walk animation looks so much better for me.
Im sorry but your speakers are probably not well tuned i had no issues with what you're talking about
the new stuff is made with the new sound capabilities in mind. a decent pair of headphones or a nice speaker will eliminate the problem you're having
@@ssutuh I think Meme Henson is pointing out a problem some of us have about the design decisions. It's not a headphone/speaker problem, it's a design issue. That issue being: exaggerated, overly bassy, electronic synth, high dynamism sound design.
Never purchased the original one on the PS3 but I always heard it was one of the most challenging and hardest games ever but fun at the same time
I'm really glad this game was my introduction to the souls franchise.
Beds, pots, shelves, barrels and a lot of clutter, especially in Boletaria and Latria.
casting spells sounds amazing on the ps5. soul arrow and rapid fireballs especially. The flying manta rays sound like space whales.
Also the music added to it's creep factor. That flameluker and maneater themes are key examples
Yup, the remake looks incredible but lacks that ambience the original had, that's why i like the original more
@@Terminated_Accountthe remake looks good because of the hardware it's on. It's lacking the art direction that made the original so good.
17:07 u can disable invasions actually, the game allows you to play it offline
In terms of sound design, I realized that the game doesn't live up to the original. It lost a lot of its ambience and sense of intimidation.
This always happens with remakes honestly, older consoles just had more punchy sound quality.
The original does some things better still, this mainly has to do with OST, boss presentation (not the graphics), and certain enemy designs. Other than that it's a great remake.
Rip old fat official, especially his laugh
@@armando1is1great Ya the new one is just a L4D Boomer rip off.
Yeah, the nexus music isn't there is it?
Ye, i prefer the art and style of the original. Bluepoint did a good job tho
I agree with the last points you made but I think the new ost fits well into the remake. I do agree that the original ost is more memorable but it also sounds 'cartoony' and doesn't fit the atmosphere of the game.
Awww Nick,You could have at least considered adding the PC's "Remastered" Version i.e RPCS3 version into the mix too as the emulator allows you play the game at 4k60fps,even further letting you see and appreciate all the finer details, atmosphere and aesthetics of the OG had to offer
Seriously playing the game at such resolution made appreciate the OG even more..I'd dare to say the PS3 didn't do enough justice.
Emulators are really cool - but I prefer to only play on original hardware when doing these comparisons.

I agree! It beats Cyberbug.

Visually. the remake is absolutely breathtaking. The voice acting feels a little odd across the board. Overall an incredible reimagining of an iconic game I never thought I would play again.
So glad I got a PS5, best console I've ever owned. It's mind blowing just how fast and how powerful it is
All high definition looks nice, but the art direction is more generic and looks like it is trying to emulate DS3 and Bloodborne setting aside the uniqueness and coherent attention to detail
And the flamelurker looks just like another Baalrog rip-off
Fifteen years ago, I thought PS3's Graphics was Hi-tech at the time, but now looking back and comparing to PS5's Graphics, it doesn't look that great anymore.

There’s no denying it’s an incredible overhaul and better in just about every way, but some stylistic choices were better in the original imo. the maiden in black for example looks much more ominous and on brand in the ps3 version
It’s such a big difference I can’t wait to get it one day
The helmet design was changed for the Fluted Set in order to differenciate it from Oscar of Bolitaria's design, which retains the original helmet design.
Playing this for the 1st time right now! new to the whole souls universe! Was just curious how much they improved it and HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!!!!!!
Its mainly a downgrade aside from the graphics, they look great
@ThinKwiQ BotW is not a Soulslike wtf
@ThinKwiQ Soulsborne games are a treat brother enjoy also Botw is amazing
BluePoint really does a good job of remaking games. shadow of the colossus on ps4 was amazing. i really wish they could remake the syphon Filter trilogy from the ps1.
The remake makes me want to go out and get a PS5, but the only thing holding me back is the hope that one day this game gets ported to PC.
Still holding on to the hope that bloodborne gets ported to pc… starting to have second thoughts
Critics are drooling over the new graphics, but I'm drooling over just how well the original holds up imo
If Bluepoint announces that their next project will be a GOW1&2 remake I might just drop dead.
I need this
i just barely got into gow so that would be cool
Black Kratos with body type B? Interesting...
That's actually a great idea. It would really great to have GOW 1&2 on the PS5 with next-gen graphics and I personally liked the first two better than GOW 3. Plus it would give something to GOW fans who miss the old-style combat.
they already did the hd collection of god of war and uncharted
It looks way better, and yet, the original atmosphere was lost. Too many things were modified just for the sake of it.
this type of thing always happens with remakes i'm tired of seeing these happening with the atmosphere and people commenting about it
Completely disagree.
The old one still Looks good for the age
tcnically better of course, but a lot of unnecessary redesigns, startng with the castle, that is something that would fit more n bloodborne, it's not like the original stile was like that becaue of limitations.
Aside from the soundtrack, the remake improved on practically everything, including the game's style (which most remakes completely ruin)
some enemy designs and some lighting decisions also feel completely unnecessary which makes me worry for anything bluepoint related
One of the best games ever made and the beginning of the souls' era games 😍 . Like many others, I'm happy that it's been resurrected and it runs on 60 FPS on PS5. Thanks for the video!
Original looks great to me.
They both look amazing!
If only those guys could remake Bioshock 1/2 like they did here. Christ ! That would be so good.
Game look amazing without raytracing. kuddos to the lighting artists. Insane level.
I think those games still look pretty good, could definitely use higher res textures though
The sound design in the remake blew me away.
