  • Despite being restricted with a slideshow video maker when I first started out, it wasn't long before I began to experiment with the still images, creating collages and the
like. In this video I used static images and then layered other images in and out of the picture or layered as many as four different frames. Plus, I introduced the backup female singers one by one by name. So, still fun to watch and a great song, one of my favorites by Lou Christie.
No description was required back in 2012 and 2013. RUclips started bugging us to provide descriptions in late 2013, and in some cases I went back and retroactively wrote some for certain of the earlier videos. I don't believe I bothered to do one for this video though.

Good job. Don't underrate the simple slide show. Remember, you are evoking a specific time and sensibility. Too much 21st Century dazzle might clash with the power of the music and images to revive the experience.

Thanks JG! In this case I was able to take a slightly different approach towards the slide show by 1) Introducing the backup singers by name each frame and 2) using a collage effect by creating different versions of the same image and adding the backup singers in the background and lightning effects, then running the fade transition between each image slowly so that these appear to slowly materialize and then vanish slowly. I was using Picasa then, and Picasa made it possible to run the fade transition much more slowly (up to 60 seconds between each frame) than what is possible on Windows Movie Maker (only 10 seconds). I was still thrilled to get WMM though in June 2013 so I could use motion picture which pretty much took over by 2013-14. Random slide shows were okay, but I liked to add something special to them if I could, as I did in this case. Ironically, I am back to slideshows on some of my newer videos, but technically they are not slideshows in the old sense. They are photo stories, each image fairly consistent with characters used and in line with lyrical narrative. Impossible to do back in the day of Google Images, now possible thanks to AI image generation in either line drawing or photo realism. Still a lot of editing involved though, lol. Like a photographer documenting a news event or filming a model, you sometimes have to get up to 10 x the pictures you need so that you can select the best ones to use. That can take up to 16 hours or more, even 24 hours if you don't mind forcing yourself to stay awake.
