Dear Dougal, he does smile you know!!!! Oh thank so much for that lovely day out, the sun, the train, a real tonic on a dark cold November evening. Take care.
Hi Andrew thank you for sharing this lovely Vlog, travels on the Steam Train, a lovely walk along the Riverside , a perfect Summers day for just chilling out! Lovely to see You & Dougal, Lots of Love to both of You 💖💖💜🐾🐾XX
Just lovely to look at a screen showing an idyllic, peaceful, normal bit of the world and escape from the usual doom and gloom! Perfect tonic Andrew & Dougal. 😊👍
That outro PTC at the end…. Oh-M-Goodness, amazing timing!! 👍👍👍 Great summer video too of course, especially watching it now during the colder months, but PTC wow!! 😉👍👍
Wherever you go you take the sun with you! We have not started winter yet and I can’t wait for the next spring/summer. Thank you for these lovely day in the sun (I can imagine myself there with the sunny day too ;-)
I know this heritage rail pretty well. Living in the Manchester area, we always take our family guests - when they visit us - to this jewel of Lancashire. Our son loved the Thomas the Tank engine days when he was a toddler. Thumbs 👍🏼
Thank you for bringing some sunshine on this snowy, grim Sunday! You make me smile!! I forgot to tell Shanna, she rocks that hairstyle, it really suits her! xxx
Thank you for another great vlog, always enjoy a train ride on a steam train and a walk with great scenery many thanks and stay safe and well both of you. x
What a lovely video. I love to watch old trains and, fortunately, you can’t get trains out of your blood either. The outtro was perfectly timed to have the Class 50 come through the frame. I smiled so Dougal would not have to.
Nice video Andrew! I recognise that caravan… oh yeah it’s on my drive😁😊 maybe I should take it back to Burrs, always wanted to go there. Cheers, Oliver
I'm originally from Middleton - my sister lives in Heywood - this is a much underrated part of the UK - OH and Bury black pudding is the best hangover cure I know lol
Looks like a great day out, somewhere to try if I am in the area. The steam train looks and sounds fantastic. Not sure about the appeal of the old diesel train?
Hi Andrew, loved the video. Quite timely for me, as going to visit friends in Bury this weekend. Planning on taking my dog to Burrs county park. Did you go to the lamppost cafe? Is it worth visiting?
@@andrewjditton If you ever visit again, I recommend a visit. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Also so welcoming of dogs, Barney enjoyed his carrot cake!
Yes, Andrew, I very much did enjoy that day out. Thanks for taking me along. A couple of questions for you Andrew, seeing as you are the font of all knowledge when it comes to trains. I love to see the steam engines on these heritage railways. However, it always seems strange to me when the loco is pulling backwards. I don't remember ever seeing that when I was a boy. Is that because I lived near a mainline (GWR Paddington to Cornwall at Dawlish Warren)? Did they actually run backwards on the branch lines back in the day? Or did they normally have a turntable available? (that's all one question, just broken down into simple parts!) The other question is regarding carriages with small compartments and a corridor. I remember in 1965 going on a chartered train that picked up through Cornwall and Devon then went through to Edinborough. (It was for a large Jehovah's Witness convention at Murrayfield, about a week long). We had each congregation assigned to a compartment or compartments. On such a long trip, one could walk up the train to find one's friends in neighbouring congregations. The point is, I normally only see open carriages on these heritage lines. What happened to all the compartment carriages?
Hi Neale, I'm no expert, BUT... Heritage Lines normally do not have the facility to turn a locomotive at the end of the line, hence it needs to run 'tender first' on the way back. Many branch lines were 'push-pull' back in the day, so the loco didn't need to run around, the driver could drive from the cab of an Autocoach. As for compartments, they DO exist on heritage lines, I've travelled in them on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and the Bluebell Railway. I think open coaches are better for viewing scenery and accommodating smaller groups (2 x 4, not 1 x 8) so I guess that's why they get used the most. But these are all a guess!
It's sad how yesterday's children have been replaced by today's dog Fifty years ago young people used to carry babies on their laps or walk with them in the garden now most young people carry dogs in their laps and walk with them in the garden
So, that's where it went… down the back of the sofa! I was expecting more heritage trains on your channel a while back. It's nice to see some sunshine - if only on screen. It was snowing in Sunny Norfolk, this morning. Yes, and worse in the North.

Ah, there are plenty of folk who love a growly old diesel, too! Thanks for watching.

Hi Gary, it was always busy when we were there at the summer, so I can't tell you I'm afraid. Enjoy your trip!
