absolutely love Stevie, I never heard this song till "high fidelity"
This great album was released when music changed by the day, when wonderful works of art were cast as if to the wind, and, when people felt the greatness would never end.
stevie is the son of Music.
Hard to believe this is a song by Stevie Wonder. It seems so unusual for his general style, and shows he's truly a master composer capable of writing in quite nearly any style.

no Laina Art only did a cover version it was written by Stevie wonder released in 1972 Arts cover released in 1975 either way I like both , also George Michael does nice cover of the song

When I heard this amazing song for the first time it was on the TV series High Fidelity. I literally thought it was Zoë Kravitz's father Lenny Kravitz singing.

i was just watching high fidelity and it prompted me to look this song up. its one of my all time " top " films and this song is a credit to the ending

Not many people understand me when I say that I want to dance with my husband to this song at my wedding. And to be whimsical, "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys. Mostly because I'm only 17, and people my age have no musical taste. But this is definitely my favorite Stevie song.

Wonderful song - many years ago an Australian singer Colleen Hewett recorded this song and it's a wonderful version if you can ever hear it. Love this too of course.

For what I can see this is a song about mature love, not about total surrender, but proceeding cautiously but in good faith and with a hopeful heart; and is all the better, and more true for it.

@Ainocorrida81 Yours sounds like a perfectly valid reading of the song; my understanding of it was similarly uplifting for most of the time I've known it.
My point was simply that the words "this time" alter the meaning by suggesting that the author has felt in the past that his love was eternal but it turned out not to be, and he hopes that maybe *this time* the love will be forever.

Awesome song, but am I wrong in thinking that the line sung just once - "I believe when i fall in love THIS TIME it'll be forever" gives this song a slightly jaded tone? I'm sure I can hear "with you" in the background vocals at the same time, and to me it suggests a barely whispered hope that maybe this time it might not die.
Of course, the funky bit at the end might blow my theory out the water... but still, whaddya think?

I was watching the Movie " High Fidelity " when this song was playing at the end. I turned to my sister and said " That's Stevie Wonder. "
We had this at our wedding. I've only just realised the God references, glad no-one noticed as we had a civil ceremony!
i need help. i'm starting to have a collection of the greatest of all time. stevie wonder is obviously on my list. i bought songs in the key of life. and i was thinking to buy his greatest collection. but i don't know anymore. should i buy all his albums?. but that's really expensive for a 14 year old girl. what should i do?
Buy this , Talking Book. You won't regret it. I havent got tired of playing this album for over 40years .
