Band - Inearthed, song - Translucent image. Great example of melodic solo with some shreddy elements. To me, it's
even tastefull than all the solos on Wintersun's first album.

Band - Synergy, song - Midnight Madness. Mind-blowing lead part with speed, pentatonic wankery, outside notes, strong melodic parts etc.
There's no question who's a better player for me 😃

Let's cut the shit here. Alexi has written and played so many great songs that Archie could never come up with in a million years. Alexi also sounded like crap the last few years he was alive and it's debatable why that was. Archie is an incredible guitarist too that probably is a technical level above Alexi but hasn't written much that is memorable. Both are great and many many levels higher in talent as guitarists than myself and probably most of you. I'm just glad their are people like them out there giving us great music and finding new ways to please our ears.
Alexi had his own style. Archie only threw couple Zakk Wylde licks. No respect from here to Archie. Go Allu! RIP.
I used to be a hardcore Alexi fanboy for years, and I still respect his work. But be honest to yourself, Archie´s skills are on another level, musically and technically wise. In the end, it's great to see, such amazing guitarists came together, making music!
I thnk johnny (Joonas Parkkonen) is even better than archie and alexi
@@monke12355 Yep Parkkonen was the best musician in the band. Too bad they split, a fucking shame really. One of the few interesting Finnish bands in a long time (mainly for the guitar pyrotechnics though, don't think they had that many great songs... but it was okay too)

Playing really fast is cool n all but id prefer a guitar solo that had some melody to it. Thats the real trick, being able to improvise a melodic solo. Alexi may be able to shred really fast but Archie sounded a tiny bit more melodic. Id say Archie wins.

Pretty much no melodic input in either of those. But Archie has groove and should have been the guitarist in this band. Wrong band for Alexi who played too straight for classic rock n roll.

That is not as hard as the scale Alexi is using!!! but I don't know much about Arttu but I know that Alexi solos are influenced by real classical music like Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart and I think that Arttu plays 80'ies Glam Metal? so who's the best?

I've got no dog in the fight but you demonstrate your lack of guitar knowledge when you say picking a blues scale is simple and not as hard as the scale Alexei uses. For a start, picking a mainly 2 note per string scale at speed us harder than a 3 note per string scale. Secondly Archie doesn't simply play the blues scale. Thirdly all 3 note per string scales are pretty much as easy as each other. Stop making excuses for your favourite player.
I remember how hard it was for me to play the blues scale fast when I was starting out. It was harder than a three note per string scale like major or harmonic minor because you can’t economy pick so you basically either have to alternate pick in which case you need a well coordinated right hand, or play the thing legato in which case you need strong hammer-ons and pull-offs. Just because one scale has two fewer notes than another, doesn’t make it easier to play.

Alexi's first solo was weak but the second one kicked Arttu right in the groins and yeah you talk about picking technique...maybe Arttu is a little bit better but that's not the hardest of solos, if you notice how fast Alexi plays his sweeps and string skipping abilities....Alexi is far better than this kid!!!! and Im talking about learning Alexis solos on guitar.....MAN THAT'S HARD!!!

you actually can see that alexi´s picking technique is far away to be able to play as fast as arttu :D just a fact, cause i love alexi´s stuff more but if you talk about the technique this guy smokes alexi
they're only pentatonic scales played fast and some tapping shit..Alexi it's technically better, he uses Sweep tapping, he has only one Humbucker which makes it harder to play clean..
samwhisperer you clearly have not been playing guitar long enough to know this shit, go check out how to pick properly and so one videos so you can see already from the angle of alexi´s hand how its already making it hard to play fast and clean in that way, just the biology of a human and physics of picking. also sweeping and tapping are easy as fuck to play fast and clean

i've been playing guitar enough to say that, tapping and sweeping it's 10 times easy with 2 humbuckers, and playing that fast it's not impressive as a great constructed solo like alexi does.
samwhisperer then you should see that alexi´s songs and solos have sounded the same since cob´s first records and cant do anything new? ok probably he can but just dont want to and it is his style and his music and some solos are fucking awesome but if you play those solos you will know this, if you are not musical enough to hear it :)

15 years ago, Alexi would've shredded Archie to pieces.... but lately, Alexi has kinda lost the will to practice I guess, and therefor his technique has fallen deep. Archie wins these days ;)
He did also injure his shoulder awhile back, I'm sure that still affects his playing. He's also a bit older.
