Thank you for posting this. I had the privilege of seeing Ms. Channing in Portland (Pink Martini's hometown)in "Hello Dolly." I was so star-struck, I couldn't stop shedding tears of awe throughout the performance. Long live Carol Channing!
This woman oozes class, in her 80s she still has more star quality than some have in their 20s. Carol should live to be 120 and I bet she will still be able to out-perform people 100 years younger than her! You guys in the US should honor her as a national treasure, what an inspiration!
You really see how deliberate Channing's approach is to this song. She has something going on deep below the surface - as if she's got a secret that she'll let us peak into - but never fully reveal. There is not one gesture, facial expression, or dance step that is extraneous. What a brilliant performer.
