This guy was voted italian Footballer of the year in 1989 and got third at the Ballon d'or. This means he won that award vs van Basten Gullit, Mätthäus, Platini, Maradona etc. all playing the same league. I think that says it all
Not only, in 1990 he deserved the balloon d'or. He was great in defence and scored or created goals in the round 16, quarter final, semi final and final. For my personal opinion, the best performance in the history of the world cup.
Andreas Brehme immediately changed Inter Milan. Ambidextrous, fast, with a phenomenal eye to set up center forwards with precise flanks....many Seria A teams had no answer to his constantly switching position....a Leader that never ever played statical. In my opinion the absolute greatest leftback Germany ever produced. The way he and Lothar Matthäus made every match a battle was spectacular. Both were phenomenal under Trapattoni. And upfront you had Klinsmann just waiting for the precise flanks Brehme would provide. He was the Arjen Robben of Leftbacks....fast, dynamic, charismatic....his left foot was Brazilian, his right foot German. Rest in peace you damn Legend....
@@الشابالأفريقي Roberto Carlos was not both footed, however I said both footed. Very few players have this very characteristic, that means being both footed.
Andreas Brehme we will remember you forever, world champion, that Argentina guy that day didn't even give him a scoring opportunity to deserve something.
What a player Brehme was. 1986 Mexico: scored on a penalty with his left foot (vs. Mexico), 1990 Italia: scored on penalties with his right foot (twice, vs England and Argentina). Brilliant.
With his shooting it was impressive how often he'd take one touch and then BAM, he'd catch keepers out so often, and look at some of those crosses! He's the greatest full back ever because he also knew how to defend, absolutely ridiculous, RIP that man.
He was in one of the greatest German teams ever. It was during that time when Gary Lineker coined the expression “football is about 22 men chasing a ball and eventually Germany win”. He was very energetic and technically gifted left back. Although I always hated German teams he was one of them I admired a lot. R.I.P.
Andreas Bremehe was a fantastic player was very strong, so fast he has a lot of skills and capacities, and above all of that he shoted the most wonderful penalty in the history of football in the final of world cup 1990 against Argentina
I think that Zizou and his panenka in 2006, was better than Brehmen's penalty. But anyway, Andreas was one of the greatest players in the 80's and 90's. Amazing skills for a defense.
He was an elite player that was able to shoot and pass perfectly with both feet and was also very strong. this made him absolutely lethal for the oponents. Rest in peace Legend.
Andreas Brehme , Sinisa Mijahilovic , Ronald Koeman , Roberto Carlos , Gave a Quality plus that litlle players can did . REst In peace Master . Grettings from Argentina
He was also much better skilled with the ball than it looked like. He never made tricks, but when he stopped the ball, it seems that the ball was without air pressure.
El simple hecho de usar los dos perfiles a la perfección y pegarle a la pelota de la misma manera con los dos pies ya era un fenómeno un crack saludo desde Argentina
Definitely the best left back of all time.. He could play equally well with both feet but I am quite sure he's right-footed - his right foot for accuracy (the winning penalty/goal in WC1990) while his left foot for power (the penalty vs Morocco in in WC1986)...
back then there were lots of defender who can score lots of goals as well as strikers...(baresi, maldini, roberto carlos, pasarella, mihailovic, roberto carlos, fernando hierro, beckenbauer, fachetti, matthaus and this one) now we only have sergio ramos who can just shoot without direction
Baresi + Maldini= 1600 games, 66 goals. Hierro + Ramos= 1600 games, 286 goals. Passarella + Koeman= 1234 games, 371 goals. That Milan defense was insane, but they didn't had much goal...
R.I.P. Andreas, I was four and watched my first ever World Cup in 90, my only memory (or maybe lifting the trophy also)was the penalty kick you made in the final, and I become a West Germany/Germany fan ever since.
RIP Brehme !! MUNDIAL 1990 was the 1st football competition that I ever watched as a 6 year old child in Greece. Let's not forget that the only 6 players that played in both 1986 and 1990 World Cup finals were Brehme, Matheus and Berthold from W. Germany and Ruggeri , Burruchaga and Maradona from Argentina.
Yes. And he scored a free kick goal in semi final with his left foot against England and in the final a penalty with his left foot.... Nobody ever did that previously or after
Vengo a ver un maravilloso jugador ambidiestro nunca te mire jugar pero los libros de historia hablan y narran la excelente calida que tenias para jugar al fútbol descansa en paz leyenda
My favourite left back along Stuart Pearce and Kenny Sansom. Please, make a video of Manfred Kaltz, one of the best and most underrated right backs, with a similar playing style to Andreas Brehme.
Great Andreas brehme...i remenber of world Cup 1990..in italy... amazing soccer..my favorite in Brazil 🇧🇷...my congratulations 😎👍🇧🇷.... Andreas brehme..god bless you 😎👍🇩🇪...champion.. Deutschland.. wowwwww...🇩🇪🙃😎
Brehme said he was naturally left footed and that was his more powerful foot.. He was more accurate with the right though.. The most two footed player in history.
He was something...was a left foot player initially, but could use his right just as well...as a matter of fact he often used his right foot for penalty kicks...which he converted at a very very high ratio!!!
In World Cup 1986 he made the penalty with the left (Mexico) and in 1990 (Argentina) with the right. He answered a journalist who was asking him: Why? I don´t know.
People below name quite often the 3 best left backs of all times: R. Carlos, Maldini and Brehme. I surely agree but there was another one. Who remembers the Belgian Eric Gerets. He was as good as those 3 for sure.
Rest in Peace, Legend! One of the best fullbacks ever.

Well Platini had retired but yes
Not only, in 1990 he deserved the balloon d'or. He was great in defence and scored or created goals in the round 16, quarter final, semi final and final. For my personal opinion, the best performance in the history of the world cup.
Maradona actually wasn't elligible for the award because until 1995 only Europeans playing in Europe were elligible for it.
Played at a high level for close to a decade. He was the first full back that enthralled me as a kid. He was just such a quality player
Rest in Peace, Champ. Brehme was one of the best fullbacks I've seen and the trio Matthaus, Klinsmann and him was spectacular.
Left foot, right foot, doesnt matter. Personification of no weakness. Amazing player, RIP Andi. Wir werden dich nicht vergessen!
Amazing skills.
Andy, wir werden dich nie vergessen!
This guy would be worth 100million these days. Sensational player.
He retired over 25 years ago and we still don't know his favorite foot

I'm a big fan of him but Paulo maldini is on a different level in my opinion but he is certainly top 5
Sad news today, one of the all time great left backs ( superb with both feet) was Andy Brehme.RIP.
Ciao campione riposa in pace, rimarrai unico. Che bello che e stato vederti ogni domenica.

One of the most underrated wing back of all the time! I think is similar of Roberto Carlos!
true
He is a taller Roberto Carlos with two left feet
No!
Roberto Carlos No es buen defensa.
Andreas Brehmme era excelente defensor.
Brehme >>> Roberto Carlos.
He is much better than Roberto Carlos. I watched him in 3 World cups, i know what i am talking about.
One of the best left backs ever. R.I.P 😢

He only decided shortly before a penalty whether he would shoot with his right or left foot.
It was absolutely unique.
He was in one of the greatest German teams ever. It was during that time when Gary Lineker coined the expression “football is about 22 men chasing a ball and eventually Germany win”. it was a good shot and his crosses was like Manfred Kaltz
alex kanyima Completely true. Kaltz was a beast at crossing and a very complete full back.
