Yep I have this game, twice, bought this one when it was new back when it first came out in 92 then lost it when I moved house. Then i bought it recently a few years ago from Noble Knight games, and I had a blast playing it again.
Yah as I remember it GDW did a lot of marketing and support for Dark Conspiracy including novels , stuff in their house magazine challenge along with adverts in Dragon magazine. betting on the Cyberpunk and horror genre which were very popular at the time(namely Cyberpunk 2020 and vampire the Masquerade) , this game was a flop at the time and one of the reasons which led to the bankruptcy and dissolution of GDW.

It's a cool little game. I really thought more Dungeon Dive viewers would be interested in seeing a video on it! Wow was I ever wrong!

Im interested! :D I've never heard of it! Im always curious to know about weird alternate history fiction stuff and like legend monsters. This seems a little different than some of the IPs I've been familiar with that have same kinda story.
I buy some vintage games, not many, but I found them at right time and got good deals, so if this had a hook for me in some way that really intrigued me, I might get it. Unless I only find ridiculously expensive examples. Lol

@@d.aardent9382 yah it was a cool game the system is modified from Twilight 2000 2nd ed. I believe back in the day the 90s when it first came out, yah a good number of modern horror rpgs came out , even white wolf tried to merge cyberpunk 2020 with vampire the masquerade with a bunch of articles in their house mag white wolf magazine.

On a side note since Twilight 2000 was mentioned - 4th edition from Free League is amazing.

Thanks for showing this one off! 😄
Love the Larry Elmore paintings and some of that very ’90s graphic design. It seems like a fun pulpy setting. I presume if one was familiar with the Dark Conspiracy TTRPG it would be a lot easier to divine the context for what's going on here.
Seems like a fun, fast loop of gameplay and a reasonable engine for adventure. The variety of application in the equipment cards looks like it adds a bit more texture than the game might otherwise have had. The most egregious offence for me is not having any plot on the plot cards!! 😡
Given the heavy emphasis on random encounters, I imagine one could homebrew some additional fun into the game with alternative/supplementary tables. It could be interesting to try to introduce some changes in the world state based on progress along the plot/plot points trackers, but that would be rather more work.
The hospital tracker really cracks me up. It’s hilarious that you could keep getting F’d up and ending back in intensive care before you make it out the door. Ideally though I think I’d want an encounter table for this that tied back into other narrative elements of play (such as plots!) rather than being along the same lines of thematic veneer as a Monopoly “you won second prize in a beauty contest.”

It's the most dangerous hospital in the world! LOL!

I was also marveling at the 90s aesthetic.

Great video! Love that mix of overworld map and a small location / event / career path! - remind me I need to steal that idea!
I agree more flavour text & art (like talisman) would definitly elevate game like this to a much higher level.

Genuinely never heard of this one - seems like a real hidden gem. The fact that you can still play it in 2024 and it most works is pretty impressive, imho. So many "classic" games I've tried to go back and play just don't hold up - best to leave them in your mind.
