Maggie Stables is one of the most important actors in BF history, not only was she in the first ever release Sirens of Time but her work as Evelyn set the standard that BF could make entirely new companions because of just how great she was with Six.
23:00 I do love Ten's cameo, just by rights of him immediately being shooed out for them already having enough Doctors. And so he tries to stay explaining how he's worked out what the villain's plan is, and the rest of them are just like, "yes, yes, we worked that out before you arrived, please leave."
This video is great! I've really been looking to see more of 6's audios since diving into Classic Who before Ncuti's first season and this made me really excited to check out his stuff. I also loved your editing.
From my best attempt to map out Six's life chronologically (because I once had a slow day in the office) from only the show and Big Finish (in release date order) I have 1. The Twin Dilemma + Season 22, with Davros thrown in the middle 2. All of Six and Peri's audios from Whispers of Terror to Breaking Bubbles (including their Lost Stories audios) 3. Trial of a time Lord 4. All of Six and Evelyn from The Marian Conspiracy to Industrial Evolution (followed immediately by The Wrong Doctors) 5. Six's two audios with Frobisher 6. All his solo stories from The Ratings War to Urgent Calls 7. Six and Charley from The Condemned to Blue Forgotten Planet (plus their adventures realeased afterwards) 8. The two Ultimate Adventur audios 9. The Land of Fiction trilogy with Jamie 10. Peri and the Piscon Paradox 11. Jago & Litefoot series 3 & 4 + the two adventures with them as companions 12. The Flip audios from Curse of Davros to Scavenger 13. Peri's return to the Tardis and every Peri audio onwards from Widow's Assassin to Plight of the Pimpernel (no conclusion as of yet) 14. His solo travels from the 2014 Worlds of Doctor Who release to last of the cybermen 15. Travels with Constance from Criss Cross to Absolute Power (plus all releases afterwards in between) 16. Constance and Flip from Quicksilver to the Lovecraft Invasion (no conclusion as of yet) 17. Jago & Litefoot Series 11 18. All his solo audios from Vampire of the Mind to Together in ecclectic dreams 19. Mel's audios from The One Doctor to The Mind of the Hodiac 20. Mel and Hebe's audios (no conclusion as of yet) 21. Any Mel audios released from here on 22. The Brink of Death (his regeneration)
@@DiamandaHaganSo I've listened to The Quinn Dilemma and Six listing his companions in order...I'm.....not even gonna attempt to make sense or revise my original comment lol
Favorite 6th doctor Big Finish moment for me? Tough call, but I'm going to have to go with The Doctor being jailed for 5 years in "The Widow's Assassin." Seeing a post Mindwarp Peri reunite with her Doctor is one of Big Finish's all time great 6th doctor stories. It added so many layers to their relationship. - Christopher -
I love that you're starting with my favorite Doctor. 6 wasn't the first Doctor I listened to with Big Finish, but he definitely was the one that got me to stay
omgosh YES! i have tried to get into big finish but just couldn't work out where to start! you have utterly convinced me of 6's awesomeness even if his words of 'mr darcy space bastard' hadn't already piqued my subbie side!
Ooo, this seems like a fun new thing to try out. I'm looking forward to seeing what you rec because... well going to the site there's a lot of material to wade through
Not a perfect comparison, but as the Doctor's "best friend" (and not taking the Doctor's crap), I once heard it described that Evelyn is a book smart Donna, and Donna is a street smart Evelyn. I though it was apt
15:57 Oh so is that why there is so much emphasis on Hebe's disability in these sets? Because it's a response to recent events in the UK regarding Disability rights?
Evelyn, Charley, Flip, Constance, Peri (again), Constance and Flip, Mel, Mel and Hebe are all set then but you don;t need to hear them. They're just good, Evelyn (and Constance and Flip) especially.
Some of my all time favourite Sixth Doctor Big Finish releases: The Marian Conspiracy The Holy Terror (my favourite 6th Doctor story) The One Doctor Jubilee Doctor Who and the Pirates Davros Arrangements for War Urgent Calls (part of I.D) Peri and the Piscon Paradox The Widow's Assassin Masters of Earth Static The Sixth Doctor & Peri box set Plight of the Pimpernel Together in Eclectic Dreams I hope they come back to the Sixth Doctor's travels with post-Mindwarp Peri soon, the conclusion to that story arc and Peri's final goodbye should be amazing
Those are his very best big finish stories. I love how big finish gives you a greater perspective of each doctor, especially the 6th doctor. There are around 200x 6th doctor big finish audios, and 12x 6th doctor tv stories. Therefore big finish accounts for 94% of his era.
Really interesting and informative video. I liked it a lot. Just a heads-up, and I can tell that no offence was meant but "wheel chair bound" is kind of an offensive term, as many wheel chair users are not bound to their chair and it implies that they are owned by their chair. I look forward to your future breakdowns.
godsdamnit... i wrote a huge grovelly comment about jow awesome you are and how much you've brought me to love vkassic who and fucking youtube fucking crashed... just... you're amazing! thank you!
I've been trying to collect Big Finish for years. The only problem is I'm a physical media nut and refuse to download anything. And I started when they were discontinuing main range 51-100. It's hard being a Doctor Who fan sometimes. So I'm grateful for this series, to be sure! I'll get to know things!
I'm also a physical media nut but the downloads are useful too, especially the oldest and cheapest. I'm trying to get all of 6's CD's and for the others I'd prefer it but will take downloads.
@@DiamandaHagan Yeah, that's fair. Because I'm also a prude, Classic Doctor Who remains the only thing I've ever pirated, because I wanted to buy the DVDs but just did not have the money. I'm not above listening to Big Finish through non-CD avenues. I'm just not to that point Yet.
Diamanda, got a Dr Who question for you and I wanted to find one of your more recent Who vids to put it to you. Found an archive online that has all the Classic Who episodes, so my question is: where should I start? Or more to the point, what is a good early season that is not full of lost episodes? I watched your guide videos, but honestly I should’ve been taking notes.
The start of a new Doctor is a good place to begin. The later on the show is the closer it feels to New Who so McCoy might be good, but if you're used to older TV then try Pertwee or Tom Baker. Both P and TB have strong early years, while McCoy's era gets better as it goes on and ends high. When you feel confident to handle missing eps try Troughton.
I think the reason I don't like it as much is that it feels like a "backtracking" against the original costume rather than as a natural evolution. Like if it was still patchwork with the same colors but the colors were arranged symmetrically, that would make more sense and then the Doctor could settle on a solid color or two-tone look for a final costume.
Some of thse adventures would be fun to see as tv but logistics makes them impossible (ones that havent been looked at after)... and complexity. Its easier for audio than filming to get away with it.
As you mentioned the UK's ongoing inditment for crimes against the disabled its well worth mentioning that Antidote to Oblivion is a very subtle as a brick allagory for those atrocities with Sil making a speech straight from Gobbell's T4 playbook. Nabil Shaban has said that aside from his own play "The First to Go" its the best bit of pro-disabled media since the rise of the "fascist Blair government"
I've scripted but not recorded that video yet and I briefly talk about it but your comment makes me think I should relisten and expand on the point, thanks.
@@DiamandaHagan No problem, it is a fantastic episode and it is very telling that they don't have Nabil's comments on the making of. The BBC have actually blacklisted him from working directly for them and weren't exactly pleased with Big Finish for bringing him back twice.
Oh no, a bunch of videos of you discussing your favourite doctor. How awful. One of my partners is an ambulatory wheel chair user. She can manage some walking, but between her joints and her chronic fatigue, if we have a lot on in a day, she does better in a wheel chair. We went to France without it for a few days once, and by the end every step she took was agony.
The thing that will always keep me from being able to listen to these is that they cram the space with too much sound! Always running water, peas and carrots, or beeping, it drives me absolutely nuts. Add to that a pholio artists idea of what sheers sound like, a crying woman, and people reacting to love (all be it misguided) in war with more hate.
I love the second doctor coming in and saying " I have no clue who any of these people are, but I have to assume they're on the up and up."
😊

“Intellectual equals” and then a picture of Romana II comes up - I’m sorry but that’s perfect.
I really had no idea how expansive the audio dramas were
Expansive and expensive.
You forgot to mention in her first "Making of" Miranda Raison makes a Joel Schumacher style appology for Daleks in Manhattan.

Yup, eventually! Be a while because the vids take a long time and I'm currently on 6 (and 5 will be after 6).
