  • In this brief tutorial I share mt technique using plastic doilies to coffee stain my paper with a decorative finish. Using simple techniques and household products to achieve some stunning results.
    You could leave all the paper to soak over night for a much deeper finished colour or simply follow my quick method using a air dryer or heat source.
    Please protect your hands and work surface with plastic sheeting as coffee will stain.

    This is such a unique way to such a pretty design, Michelle. I like the way it covers the entire surface. I use paper doilies, dipped in coffee & lay them on the coffee dipped paper and then bake them in the oven. Then I have the paper and the coffee dyed doilies also. I just did almost 150 sheets of paper today and several different shapes of doilies. Yes...my cuticles are brown and my hands smell like vanilla coffee. lol! I do love your technique. Enjoyed the video! Thanks for sharing. ...Carol

      One of my favourite fragrances is vanilla and not only does your finished coffee stained paper look so dark, and rich! You have have such a delicate aroma of vanilla to add another dimension. I love all the pieces of coffee stained doilies you have gifted on, so much so I'm still holding back from using them as they are beautiful just as they are. Now I know the secret I shall have to try for myself. Thank you Carol.....

    • @carolfarney-creativethough2725
      @carolfarney-creativethough2725 6 лет назад

      To go a step further with the "secret" is to make sure you use PURE vanilla. It is more expensive but soooo worth it in the end result. I think it adds to the color and the fragrance is heavenly. Have fun!

    Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I purchased a set (of 5) large doily-like place-mats last year at Michael's. They were so pretty & I pictured them for coffee/tea staining, but every method I'd seen until recently used the oven. As we speak, my first batch is drying. This is beautiful ! Now I will have to find some plastic doilies ! I think I have a plastic doilies tablecloth somewhere, that isn't in great condition, & might just use sections of it.
    You know instead of scrubbing your hands, you can soak your nails in lemon juice & baking soda, or household peroxide to whiten your nails. So give that a try next time before scrubbing your hands & see if it makes a difference. Tfs Michelle ! I'm a new sub ! ❤😊

      @@mashbash1 Mitchalisia Hi, I haven't tried it yet, I'm trying to finish a mixed media paintings 8x10 album for my teenage niece birthday, On the last one, but life gets in the way, hoping by end of week, bc I've got to get all my out of state Christmas cards done by midweek next week & in the mail, & also try to get my tree up ! Usually by now I'd be finished with all that, but since my niece is so into art, I decided to make one for her one as an extra gift, & have worked all November on it. It will be a keepsake for her, & it's turned out so beautiful ! She's a December baby, so l try to make sure she gets birthday gifts & Christmas gifts too. I'm a November Thanksgiving baby, & when I was a young girl, many times some family would wait til Christmas & say it was for both my birthday & Christmas, so a lot of November/ December people get shortchanged, so l make it a point to, not to lump them both together for her ! I plan to try the coffee papers after the holidays. Once I'm finished with her art project, I'm taking an art hiatus until the New Year ! Those coffee papers would really make a pretty art journal for me ! I just started mixed media painting in August, & I had all these angel pictures from old calendars I've been saving for yrs, & from August to October I made my first album, some with Angel verses, some whimsical with beautiful quotes, & some quirky & funny, I love to do the quirky funny ones ! Its 5x8 , all made from doubled over paper grocery sacks, folded, painted modpodged, & I made most of the embellishments for it, its absolutely beautiful ! I still have a dozen Angel pictures left, so I'm going to make another one, as I just love Angels, & now I can look at all those beautiful pictures, instead of keeping them filed away. I always knew someday I would make something with them ! The coffee papers I would like to use for a Victorian journal, lush with roses & cream colored lace, & maybe journal in them all about my Sweet Sweet Mother, my paternal grandmother ( the only one still around when I was born ), and all my Aunties. All are gone now, so it would be a nice tribute to all of them ! ❤😊
      P.S. another thing for washing hands is orange hand cleaner, sold at auto parts stores, & automotive dept. in retail stores have it too. Mechanics use it to get the oil & grime stains off, & it smells good ! Comet/ Ajax cleanser works, but it's so drying to your hands ! Hope one of those methods helps you out ! 😊

    Don't know if there's a chance you'll see this but forget the stove top, dump everything in a slow cooker and stir - once at beginning and before you serve the chili or more often if your better than me. I precook ground meat and freeze it and just dump the frozen block of meat into the pot. I'm old, you do things the easy way ; -)

    Where can we find plastic/vinyl, silicone lace placemats ?? I just went online to ebay, wish, and walmart. $18.00 for a set of 6 is a bit more than I need for 6 of the same one. Lol

      I have to confess that I brought the selection of plastic/vinyl place mats from a trunk sale. Then a girlfriend sent some from Portugal. In the U.K we have a poundland which also sells plastic mats but as you said they all match. I gift some to other ladies and always look in second hand shops. Stencils also work well.

    Love this technique Michelle. But WOW are plastic doilies expensive. You can not just buy one, you have to buy in quantity's of 4, 6, or12. Fifteen to thirty dollars a set. I do not know if it is worth the price just to coffee stain papers, because I would want different patterns of course. Hummmm, will have to think about this one.

    • @mashbash1
      @mashbash1  6 лет назад +1

      OMG Laurie, that sounds really expensive and I'd forget the idea until I found a secondhand one or had some luck in a dollar store. You can always try some lace trim and the worst thing that could happen is poor results....apart from having a coffee stained page and some coffee stained lace rather than a transfer.
