Saw him for the first time last night at an small intimate venue. He was awesome... I can't believe I waited so long to see him. His voice is still amazing. You are absolutely right. He uses those chords a lot I noticed last night. I was wondering what they were... thanks for the tutorial.
yea i ve watched hundreds of people trying to teach how to play this and you're the only one who does it exactly the way the original music is. the only one
Close but no cigar. That chord you're looking for is actually a B with the 3rd in the bass. So it is 6X447X or 3rd finger on the 6th fret of the E string, A string is not played, 1st finger barres the 4th fret of the D and G strings, and the pinky on the 7th fret of the B string. High E is not played. This makes the transition from that chord to the next slightly more complex but musically the B chord is in the key of E whereas your chord is not properly in the key. You are effectively doing an F# major as your chord is 2 frets high than the next chord which is E in first inversion. And in the key of E, the II chord is supposed to be minor, not major. Note: I went around RUclips looking for more info on this and found that Ed has been doing a slightly different version of this. I was using a version of this song that was labeled "I'll Be [Acoustic Version]" where the notes of the chords were all picked rather than strummed. To my ears, there's a B in first inversion as I described above. The difference is very small but I prefer the B, not the F# major. I find the song much more beautiful when played this way but I have only the audio to go by. It's also much more difficult to play and I was searching RUclips videos to see if I could find an alternate turning of a capo kinda thing to make it easier to play. That other chord you describe is merely a G#m7, most easily played as a bar chord similar to a 9th chord but with G# (4th fret E string) played by the middle finger and a simple bar with the ring finger on strings D, G, and B on the 4fth fret. The A and E strings are muted.(although technically the high E string could be fingered at the 4th fret too).

Thanks man! Been trying this one for a while and always knew what I was doing wasn't quite right... Big help. You do mute the A string for those tricky chords right?
You’re on the right path!! I pla i it almost the same. Studio and live versions are played a little different. BUT don’t know about ya playing with Edwin (down to earth as he is) lol. I’ve met and spent quality time with him. I respect that man and hold him in the highest.. As a musician myself he tested me the same. I play it almost identical as you. Nice job though!!
Thanks. Even Ed plays it differently depending on the day. Same chords, of course, but played at different places on the neck. I was lucky enough to spend time with Ed, Larry, Craig, and even Phil who ran sound for them back in the 90s. Good times. And as you said, great people. Ask him about good ole Stubbs BBQ in Austin. 😊 Good luck with your music!
@@DustyBelew thanks! Loving this lesson. So cool that you played with him! Wow that chord uses 4 fingers? I didn’t catch that in the video. If it’s 4 fingers it could also be played with the ring finger doing a partial barre over 3 strings. Can you tell me what key this is in? It is B major?
@@PaulChaplo I haven't played this in a while, but it's definitely in B! As for the partial barre - whichever way is easiest for you is the right way! Happy playing!
short vid but seems accurate..gotta try practicing these..i've been searchng for the ryt keys for a long time but all of them not sounded like the orignal..unlike ths 1.👍👍👍
Im not being a troll or anything but the chords you are playing are inversions of the "junk or crap chords" that you are reffering to, you are just rooting them off of the 3rd instead of the 1. I see all these comments from people trying to make them more complicated than they have to be. A#m#5 = Fmaj & G#m#5 = E maj... Just throwing that out there so people wont believe these are some sort of alien chords.. i use these as comp chords in alot of jazz and country.
I actually played with Edwin many years ago, so I learned it all from Larry Chaney - his guitar player back then. So it's definitely accurate. Straight from the man himself.
Yeah, I said it backwards. Just understand that I count top down 1-6 instead of bottom up, which is what I should have done. It's pretty easy to watch and see what I mean.
Awesome thanks for the tip. I will take up for all the guys doing it wrong by saying you should never copy an artist 100% unless your playing for/with them. Otherwise you will never develop your own sound.
@@DustyBelew I heard you say that which is awesome, but the other people who are doing it their way wasn't playing with him. All i'm saying is musicians should rarely copy someone exactly. But that's my opinion and I know lots of guitar players who pride themselves on being exact so whatever floats your boat. I guess my definition of being wrong isn't as strict as yours when it comes to music.
@@DustyBelew I just watched a live video of Edwin playing this song and this is 100% how he played it. I wasn't 100% sure of the walkdown chords from watching him but you've confirmed it.

I've been wondering why I have never been able to play the song like Edwin. The chord progression has been wrong. This sounds excellent!
This video tutorial is a gem...thanks man..💕
Thanks Bro! This is 100% Accurate, watched him play it like this in recordings. Now, Could you possibly do a video on the Picking Pattern?!
Thank you, Dusty. It's much appreciated.
Thanks Dusty for sharing, I'm looking to other guitar tabs you have shared.
Thanks Dusty! I wanted to learn how to play the song exactly how Edwin plays it! Great job on the video! Thanks for sharing! Tom
That i think is the guitar voicing
“that F# & E & B6”.
Great job!

Hi dusty do you have a finger strum and flucking tutorial for this newbie guitar here. ❤️ thanks
Thanks man! Been trying this one for a while and always knew what I was doing wasn't quite right... Big help. You do mute the A string for those tricky chords right?
You can lay your middle finger on the A string to mute it if you like - I just don't play it :)
I love when people call out cheating/laziness.. Not to be disrespectful but I want to play it the correct way and this is it.
it was published on my birthday date... yaaayyyy

Can someone please explain the picking pattern? I can't find it anywhere online.
solid tutorial man thanks
Hi, I'm having trouble with the first chord beginning the bridge where it seems like 303300 but it sounds wrong. Am I doing it wrong?

is this standard tuning?
