I love how this video allows Andrew to vent about his worst airport experiences. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from business and talk pleasure. 😁
I agree Don Muang is horrendous. I was flying back to Thailand for my wedding. I had plenty of money in cash, a tourist visa and a flight ticket out. They denied me and deported me without asking me anything. I had to use another border to attend my wedding and I'm still in Thailand to this day. I'm never flying to Don Muang again.
I concur with you about Poland airport, a really strange logistic system they have set-up for travelers. On a side note, when I missed a connection flight getting free meal waivers was really easy and not a problem. Have you ever traveled through St. Petersburg, Russia Airport quite a spectacular piece of architecture; also the Scandinavian airports have some cool designs, Stockholm and Helsinki come to mind for me. Have you ever flown through these airports? Cheers to your channel also great content!
Well done Andrew even my wife finds you interesting now because you were not afraid to show your acting skills at 5:55 but you bested yourself a few seconds later "YOUR IN POLAND HAAAA" Class. Keep up the professional videos with occasional gags!
ha, my first experience at Okęcie had me, with no Polish, arriving with a flight with many Asians, and a female Polish officer with no English who had it in her head that I was stealing from baggage claim
Before you got going I was thinking two of my least favourites are LAX and MNL. What a surprise! I guess any US airport these days is a dismal experience. As for the Philippines Cebu now has an awesome new international terminal. Airlines are beginning to add more service there as opposed to Manila. When flying international I avoid the US and Manila at all costs!
Sydney is a terrible airport with ridiculous car park pricing and an even more ridiculous passenger pick up system at the domestic terminals. Brisbane is by far the easiest and best International terminal in Australia.
What makes a huge difference for me when traveling to Europe is connecting via Washington rather than Newark/JFK, and Copenhagen rather than Heathrow. So much faster and more efficient.
Every American airport is like a 3rd World airport. Except maybe Dulles in DC. Casablanca for inland transfer is horrible. CDG is ugly af. Top airports imo are: Doha, Incheon, Hong Kong & Singapore. Doha is especially nice & efficient, perfect for layovers
Dulles? Perhaps its changed, but I Still only think about riding on stupid “mobile lounges” when rest of the world had trains at jet bridges. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_lounge
My other most unpleasant experience was at Paris’ CDG. They had a bottleneck at the passport control that caused many of us to miss our connection. The worst part was the disorganized way that the airport staff were letting some people skip to the front of the line but not others. Not cool when everyone there is late.
You did not mention Hong Kong. I had to stop there to transfer from my flight from Toronto, Canada on back to Chiang Mai, Thailand (where I NEVER should have left). That was in the fall of 2019. I had a few hours before the connecting flight. The airport is like the siz.e of a city in my experience. I waited and watched the schedules for my connecting flight until there was barely an hour left and the flight was not appearing on the board. I learned I was in the wrong airport!. I had to walk a long ways to an elevator and down to the flight deck and onto a bus with a few doen other people and across a 1/2 mile of runway to the right airport. Through customs again and trying to hurry as there was barely time. But there was no way to make the people do their jobs fast. So I got to the flight gate just minutes late and watched my plane sit there and then take off. I had to stay there 36 hours to get the next flight out. I do not know how the people in charge can set things up like this. I mean how is a simple, old veteran supposed to know these things if no one bothers to make them clear?
Atlanta is bad. The overly frequent public announcements are set at an obnoxiously high volume. It is difficult to have a phone conversation or listen to music even with headphones.
Cairo is terrible. Addis Ababa isn't great. DMK in Bangkok is bad. BKK can be worse if landing on tarmac, bus in, million passengers pending time of day. AEP in Buenos Aires is shit. Even TXL im Berlin is exceptionally bad especially in German terms. Major USA domestic terminals are terrible for Australian passengers getting fully frisked everytime. SIN Changi is my favourite. ICN in South Korea is great. MEL is great. HGK is good too.
Very interesting and great tips thankyou. Worst airport I encountered was Rio de Janeiro Brazil (Galao) Last time i was there although they were rebuilding at the time. Also LAX...yuk!! Nicest I've been through were AUKLAND NZ BRISBANE AUSTRALIA and for a small airport.. NOUMEA NEW CALEDONIA But one of the most magnificent to fly into is QUEENSTOWN NZ Absolutely stunning. One of the most beautiful places in the world.
Love Belgium! I’ve only heard negative things about Warsaw. I don’t like JFK people are always rude and the connecting flight gate is always far away, I’ve almost missed flights. I also don’t like Paris CDG, the worst! I rather connect in Frankfurt any day! My favourites are LHR & ATL!
Djibouti is the worst damn airport ever. I went there and they locked us in and I had to wait 17 hours in it. We were the only ones there my family and I, the cops were sleeping and smoking cigarettes where while covering up a sign that says do not smoke. Also they just let me go in and open all the bags there were and I assume all those were kept for no reason here from previous customers, it smells so fucking bad, and it’s really small. The restrooms water is all salty, not just salty but extremely salty, there is no food or anything
Shenzhen Bao An airport... Beautiful on top, stunning roof structure (not much to sit on), but very modern. Then very cold war themed security and vibe, then sliding doors open to luxury duty free zone followed by largely empty concourse/gate where you wait for a bus to take you to your plane.
Andrew you’re totally right about lox airline and Warsaw airport and terminal, pathetic, also I totally agree with you about Manila airport, it’s a shame that its never gotten better in the last 10 years....
My London Heathrow experience has been one of the worst ever... I'm sure they're decent most days but I had multiple awful encounters with employees that ended up costing hundreds of USD worth problems.
The worst airport I've been at has to be Tirana International Airport in Albania. They may have improved things there over the years. Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport in Suriname won't be winning any prizes for efficiency and service anytime soon either.
I disliked the airport in San Jose, Costa Rica, because they wanted to imitate the TSA and the worst part of US airports. Also, the Santiago, Chile airport sucks. LIma, Peru is nice, and Madrid is one of my favorites, especially their duty free cigar selection. And a nice word about Malta---customs and immigration took the day off, and we walked straight from the plane to the exit with no stop whatsoever! Also Frankfurt gets kudos for nice customs officials, and oddly, so does Managua, because you just wouldn't expect it. The steel drum band in Nassau was a cute touch, too!
I hate Frankfurt. Will never try a 45 minute transfer there. 90 mons is needed. As their customs line is always long as freak. And airport is too long. In winter i'd say one needs a 2 hr trans. Or prepare to stay overnight
I’d add Frankfurt Airport to the list for sure. Awful security - you have to empty out your bag of all electronics including cables. And do they really need to carry out transfer security when arriving from a place like London Heathrow? Amsterdam somehow avoids it for not only Schengen but also safe non-Schengen destinations like UK or US.
On Saudi Arabian I had a layover in the KSA that was quite shitty. It might have been in Jeddah, but I don’t recall. Possibly there is a new airport in the same city, but the one I had to stop at had a “mall” that was a store that looked like it had opened in the 1970s and that they were still trying to sell their original inventory. The best part of that airport was watching the janitor clean the floor, which was at least reassuring that they did clean some parts.
I was laughing when you mentioned fly Dubai. I got my tickets on Emirates to Tbilisi from Bali. Got to fly dubai terminal 😕to transfer ... awful. Missed out on the lovely lounge. Agreed LAX is awful and now I have added SF in USA. Awful.
The "no fly list" for me is Dulles, JFK, LAX, Chopin in Warsaw, Dublin, and Istanbul (but they are improving). Worst EVER? Frankfurt, Germany. - The international terminal at JFK is a chicken and goat away from being its own 3rd world country. - LAX is miserable and when you leave the airport you get to enjoy all the traffic in LA. - Chopin is not bad. I disagree with Andrew. But LOT is the worst European airline. - Dulles sucked 20 years ago... it sucks now. AVOID. - Dublin is shite. The security queue is just a "gangbang". So unorganized. - Istanbul is improving and may soon fall off the list. But it is just too small an airport. - Frankfurt Germany is really the poorest planned airport I've ever seen. Having to renegotiate security to change gates. LONG walks for transfers. Unacceptable.
I'm going to give away my age here, but.... If you think LAX (Los Angeles) is bad NOW, you should have seen it before the 1984 Olympics! The comparison is like Night and Day, LOL! It's 1000% better NOW than compared to the way it USED TO BE!!!!
Cairo Airport. Just horrible especially when you are traveling within the middle east. I do love Doha Airport. Based only on food choices. I'm shocked how poor the food choices are at JFK and LGA but am happy with LAX for that reason.
hate to say but my home airport Liverpool is embarrassing, the arrivals is a shambles and as a whole a very grubby airport inside and out.....also Charlerio Brussels chaos outside.........good regional airport is Porto very impressed, Sofia T2 nice
I get it, but this is totally trivial and superficial. I could care less about how flashy or luxury or poshy the airport is. I just want the airport to be functional and the flight leaves on time - with my bags if they are checked! You only mentioned 1 or 2 minor inefficiencies, try going to Lagos where you have to bribe your way through security to get to the gate. Travel standards have come a long way in the last 30-50 years and travel has opened up to more people who, in previous generations could not travel around the world multiple times. Let’s not lose sight of how good we really have it.
At least they are both pretty small, so you are out quick. Although the baggage handling in Denpasar is slow and often your bags doesn't arrive on the right belt...
Any American airport for transit. The security requirement to enter the US and then go back through security into the terminal? It’s absurd.
For Sure.
We should abolish the TSA it's wack
Every American agrees
As a US Citizen, I consciously avoid passing through the USA whenever possible.

Can you add LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to your list?
Yesssss...OMG that airport almost breaks you by the time you sit down on the plane and then you get delayed...at this point you just accept it...
Havana, Cuba. No contest.
Yep, they broke my ( wrapped) case while trying to get inside it -on the return to Mexico, so no goodies inside!

Not surprised. That's my typical Poland experience, not just at airports but everywhere in Poland. I avoid that country, too many chauvinists.
