    To people who are commenting on how they are mad that my scripts don't mention a deeper meaning in mvs we react to:
    what I say to begin reaction videos is all information taken from helpful fans on twitter. As a music major at a very strict music conservatory, I don't have time to do my own research for every video and group we react to. So I make sure to tweet before we react to any videos, asking fans for facts about the groups and music videos. So all info I get is from fans, and if I don't say something in my video script, it's because no one ever told me. I wish I could research and spend hours making sure I had all details right, but sadly if I spent time doing that, I would fail and drop out of college. If you are upset with the content of my scripts, make sure to check my twitter once and a while and contribute info about your favorite songs/groups when I ask! Thank you for understanding.

    i think the... concept of the mv kind of went over everyone's heads lol. hyuna is very known for doing concepts that korea would consider "taboo", and sorta doesn't care how much people think "ah this is a little too far or too sexy or too much".
    this mv specifically revolved around some of south korea's biggest issues: gang violence, sexual assault, and suicide.
    hui was the gang member getting into street fights, stealing, etc. hyuna was protecting herself from being raped/sexual harassment and accidentally ended up killing the guy (and ran away because even though the murder happened due to self defense, sk law and general public probably wouldn't have cared and she would have gotten in trouble). and e'dawn was the "crazy", craving death kid who just wanted to die so badly but couldn't seem to do it properly.

      I like your comment. I think they touched on a lot of important topics and ppl are all triggered bc it didn't show them kiss and makeup and dance into the sunset at the end. they committed suicide. bc they were all crazy in their own way. and that's reality it happens to ppl, maybe not always so extreme. anyway I think too many ppl want some happy ending but it doesn't work out that way. I mean even artists like BTS had abuse, murder, alcoholism, delusions, crime, suicide, etc. in their mvs and trailers and told beautiful stories and a lot of the time they didn't resolve themselves. freaking V put his head on a train track and didn't seem to care. like freaking no one talks about how that is glorifying suicide or jimin in the bathtub, V killing a man, I could go on. like i love bts bc they don't act like life is all rainbows and glitter and these are real traumatic things that happen in the world. same with triple h. I don't think the intent is to tell teens to do all this. besides no one with a brain will watch this and be like omg I wanna do it bc hui did it. like tf. if they do that its bc there were far deeper issues in their lives first. ugh. anyway sorry I'm jsut ranting now. but it bothers me how for bts or vixx or whoever even Melanie Martinez, when they include stuff like this everyone loves it and supports it and calls it art but then for triple h which did a very artistic mv with those same things, then it's terrible and a bad message and blah blah blah. pisses me off.

      I would agree with everyone on this thread if they were singing a completely different song with different lyrics. The problem is that their lyrics include things like 'so fresh whatever I do, hurry and follow me, keep it up, you can take it' etc. Also, are we even unpacking the meaning of '365 so fresh'? The effect of pairing this brightly coloured, 'aesthetic' video to this particular song does not portray the issues as a harsh/ignored reality, i feel like it does the opposite and makes light of them.

    • @jellybones1530
      @jellybones1530 6 лет назад +68

      wy wy the music itself doesn’t always have to line up directly with the context of the music video. i think i need you by bts is a good example of that, where the actual content matter of the mv is much darker than a song that’s just about heartbreak lmao. having bright music as a background to dark subject matter isn’t something that’s new- it’s done in movies all the time, and the juxtaposition of the two entities often times makes the story of the film/mv stand out more than it would’ve if the music fit 100%, thematically.

    I don’t think they were glorifying these horrible things. These things are hard to talk about it korea so I think they were trying to put it out in a video and be open that these are problems we are facing- korea has the highest suicide rate for an oecd country yet it’s rarely talked about - I think they were trying to show that

    I think if the music didn't contrast with the MV so much, it would be more inappropriate. I feel like you really are supposed to be uneasy watching it. There are also some lyrics in the song that when you match them with the MV it kinda makes sense, like Fresh till death etc. Death, depression, suicidal tendencies and all that shit is a theme of a lot of young people.
    What I got from the MV and the song combined, was three young adults who were lost, had no idea where to go in life, didn't even want to live all that much. But instead of working through it, they just killed their time however they could, because they didn't know better and were in pain. I think when they all met they decided then and there they would kill themselves together and went on to enjoy life and go all out as much as they could in their last moments. They had sex, they partied, they drank and then it was time to end it.
    It's all very sad, but they didn't want to acknowledge it, nobody around them knew, to anyone else they were just wild fresh kids, but the truth behind it was different, that's why the beat is so happy and upbeat. It's not that they are happy about their situation, it's that nobody can see their pain.
    And this is actually a huge problem in South Korea. They have the highest rate of suicides in the world but it's taboo to talk about mental health or suicides or depression and you cant even get much help. And it's a huge problem in the Kpop industry as well. A lot of idols suffer from mental issues but they have to act happy, they cannot tell anyone, and nobody pays it much attention, until they actually kill themselves, or try to. So yea I think this whole thing makes a lot of sense.
    PS: The stage and the dance is actually the upbeat funky vibe that matches the song, which is even more ironic, because all those people on the shows are dancing and cheering to a song that sounds happy but has a very dark meaning.

    • @xJProductionsx
      @xJProductionsx 6 лет назад +57

      Exactly! That's the impression I always got from the contradiction between the upbeat song and the dark af MV. Like having to look and sound happy while there's an invisible gun to your head.

    • @Cristyface
      @Cristyface 6 лет назад +42

      That's exactly what I got out of the music video. Idk I don't think it's wrong to portray depression in this way. Songs take artistic liberty all the time to express their points. This is probably one of the few ways they can actually put out a song that touches on suicide and depression because of how upbeat it seems.

    I never thought of the video as THAT controversial when i saw it initially, yeah it's really different from typical kpop stuff, but the narrative of the video i think is supposed to contrast with the song and i personally liked how they went with a cinematic rather than a performance video because it sets them apart and shows how they're unique.
    Maybe it's because I don't get triggered or feel uncomfortable with things that show violent/sexual/illicit themes, but I really thought that the music was unexpectedly complimentary to the video and wasn't intending to make light of the serious problems portrayed rather than just tell a story. It's purely conceptual in my opinion, similar to BTS' HYYH/Wings/Highlight Reel, it's fictional and probably has a deeper meaning. I'm excited to see what they do next.

    i already said this on patreon but, again, this mv being controversial in its presentation is something that i think was wholly intentional. hyuna handled most of the creative direction for triple h and you can tell that she had a vision that she brought to life- you can be controversial through the use of taboo topics/imagery (esp in korea lol.. the sexual assault and attempted suicide scenes aren’t something you see in korean media often for a reason. censorship is a big problem over there: that’s why the cigarette had to be blurred out) just like she has in her other mvs. not to mention the way this was shot is beautiful, and i think it fits the music.

    • @inferiorinferno8859
      @inferiorinferno8859 6 лет назад +10

      True, HyunA knows how to tell a story with taboo subjects. Occasionally I ask myself if she ever is interested in film making, because her creativity and how she's not that ashamed of using those taboo topics could make for an excellent show or movie. I would love a movie produced by a team that includes HyunA.

    Lol i keep forgetting for some people they just can't handle their gore or get in deep. This video felt great for the song cause it was Tarantino influenced and a little don't drive in cars with boys. Personally if it's rated 19 then it should be fine. Change pop around, it gets boring when you see the same kind of bubblegum pop all the time and triple h really took it there. How much more is there to restrict.

    This is one of the best MVs in Kpop 💜 The song represents how the troubled youngsters cover up their pain and tell themselves that they are fine. The try to drown their sorrows in partying. That's how society sees them. Society sees them as troublemakers and no one helps them. The MV criticizes Korean society that takes mentall illness and suicide lightly. In the end they commit suicide but still no one cares. This is reality. The MV shoves it in our faces so we will want to bring a change.

    What’s so special about Triple H is that:
    1- The 3 members are so different yet they create some hot mess synergy
    2- The MV was full of over-expressed or dramatized social and mental problems the youth is actually experiencing
    3- 365 So Fresh is a song that we needed, funk is a genre that we needed
    4- The album was filled with BOPS, it’s been a year and I still listen to every side track
    5- Hyuna, Hui and Edawn are talent freaks

  • @morgantbird
    @morgantbird 6 лет назад +55

    Personally, I think the irreverence regarding the issues of suicide, violence, sexual harassment, etc. is part of the point this MV was trying to make. By juxtaposing these issues with a catchy dance track and partying and such, it reflects Korea’s and much of the world’d attitude toward these issues where victim blaming is common and mental illness is ignored or shamed. In a way, they are intentionally making light of these issues with the purpose of making the viewer uncomfortable with that. You should be disconcerted by pairing this song with these images and it should make you think about what that says about how we view these issues in our daily life.

    the thing about the video is that it wasn’t meant to be light in any way. it was more of a social commentary. they do slide to suicide and sexual abuse and the subsequent murder but all of that is shit that happens and none of it is talked about enough in korea or the rest of the world. we marginalize the concept so much that it’s important to have this type of video out there

    ty for the nice reaction as always! totally agree with how nicely distinct their voices are! Hyuna, hui and edawn are an unexpected combo but they sound so good tgt! and yeah it's a bit troubling how it seemed like they're making light of certain issues, but the intent was more of like, artistic expression ig? In an interview Hyuna said she wanted to portray "an unsustainable lifestyle" bc she felt like that's what youth is all about. Personally i don't rlly mind the reactors' reaction to the thematic things cus honestly most of that go over ppl's heads and this channel is mainly dedicated to reacting to the music so like even if you don't know everything abt the concepts/groups it's honestly fine
    On another note, yall should check out more of ptg and hyuna's stuff too, they both contribute a lot in the production process. Pentagon even has multiple members who've composed songs for themselves and other idols like kino (Violet), wooseok + edawn (organic song, most of rapline unit songs), and hui (honestly most of ptg's titles, thank you, you are. wanna one's never and energetic, etc)

    Wow, this reaction really surprised me. I agree that the topic is dark, and that the rating is appropriate, but the point of the video is about escaping from your troubles and the things that weigh you down. Finding a way to be happy despite the bad stuff. In a perfect world the video would have a trigger warning, but I don’t thing the video is making light of the subjects it portrays.

    i think the biggest thing that i liked about this particular song / mv was that it DID show struggles that regular people go through - suicide, sexual harassment things like that, you don't really find a TON of that in the k-pop industry i guess? ( i mean obviously there are artists like BAP that talk about things like that but for the most part it still isn't a huge part of the industry) anyways i thought the way they showed it and the things that they showed was cool. in contrast the music is very bright and fun idk i could be reading into things too deep but that could also be seen as although these people have shit going on in their lives there is also a certain facade that they can put up to make them appear happy, hence the poppy bright music. The ending could've turned out better though lol, still shaken over that but all in all it was still one of my fave 2017 releases. thank you for reacting to it!

    I knew Kevin would love this. Bother the music and the video. I was hoping someone else would get all the video references and why it connects with the song. Because now I feel old, lol. Isaac definitely wouldn't like Troublemaker's Now and potentially BTS' I Need U.

    This is quite clearly a Tarantino movie about how mafia-Hui adopted a stray-accidental-murdered (who killed an abuser) and a stray-suicidal-junkie before they went on a Thelma and Louise-like adventure. There are important themes here, and the contrast is smart imo.

    HYUNA! She's also a former member of Wonder Girls with Sunmi. Her music videos are always Rated19, she's a total risk taker and bad ass chic. React to Now and Troublemaker by her former group Troublemaker pleasssseee!!!!
