This sounds like something that Hunter would sing in reference to Luz. She gave him a choice to be her friend and kept the opportunity open for him even if he didn't earn it. She never resented him or judged him. She opened the door to making actual friends and having value beyond what he could do for you. So this really fits their relationship in a platonic way.
