how incredibly lucky we are to have a masterclass by Rowan Atkinson himself readily available for free on youtube.
Massive thanks to the uploader
a masterclass that effortlessly puts to shame the competition, if one might add.
nothing's free
No one can replace this legend. Just at his face expression made me laugh so hard. What a brilliant.
Brilliant! Felt like a well researched thesis on audio visual comedy, presented in a breezy Atkinson way.
Its one of the valuable documents created in contemporary human civilization.
I love how this is both educational and hilarious.
I love how this is framed as a mockumentary but its legit one of the most densely informative documentaries I've seen in ages! Absolutely brilliant.
Rowan atkinston is a natural charming man cuz his hand when giving a convo is just appealing and the way he talk makes me want to know more
catch my new naturetrphic video lov
😁
Intriguing documentary about the explanation of the art of physical comedy. Outstanding performance as always by Mr Atkinson. Thanks for the post!
This is my FAVORITE work of his!!!!Rowan.... Thank you for your life's work!!
My performing arts teacher showed me this and now I can’t stop watching it
Well i saw this with my sis when I was 11!
I can't imagine Master Chief doing well in a performing arts class
@@BountyGames1 I can :) lol
I hope you don't smoke.
finally a full version video, thanks.
Hi animal plant, do you know of any other full version youtube videos? Thanks- just in case!
😮
This was epic work by Rowan Atkinson! Been a Mr Bean fan since about 10 yo and I never saw this work before! I was half crying half laughing, this was amazing! This is where Rowan stands out more than most comedians....he has such a unique physical comedy that everyone seems to love.
4:56. “Kevin will now demonstrate three principles of visual comedy using only... the banana”. I lost it
Rowan Atkinson is a genius. What a 1992 Time Capsule! It's amazing how single-camera observer mockumentary fly on the wall style comedy has changed everything since then. Arrested Development, The Office. Always Sunny in Philly does not do "yes, and...", but instead it's, "No, but .."

3:56 love how he's "sorrow" face has no emotion on it lol
I think the comedy started at 0:53 , when he can't keep the specs in the pocket in the first go. This man is like, a GOD.
I am thinking if that was actually scripted? Or one of multiple takes, and that was the one kept because of this?
I dunno, the reference to the Benjamin P. Hill library was that first tickled my funny bone.
The delayed eyebrow raise at 13:00 is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Hahahah yes so good
I remember I tried to do that when I first watched this but however much I tried I couldn't raise just the one eyebrow without raising the other one too! I actually can now but it took a lot of practice!😄😄😄
4:15 I never thought I would see Mr.Bean smoking. rofl But here we are.
2:58 A bit funnier when Hugh is in the house. :)
To this day charlie chaplin makes me laugh. I didn't have access to hundreds of tv/radio channels and seeing a new movie was about once or twice a year but sitting in my grandmothers livingroom in my favorite chair by the radiator under the window watching charlie chaplin is one of my fondest memories
I completely agree, he was a genius
Absolutely brilliant , I have never seen anything like this video , what a fantastic way in the way this video was made . 😀😀👍
😁 me too hehehehe
Thanks for uploading this brilliant documentary, this is one of the most interesting one I've ever watched!
my sentiments exactly!!!
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
That made my day! I was so stressed but this made me smile!! Thank you, Rowan!
Wonderful stuff! I love what he's doing as the presenter - subtle, but very amusing
Prime example of showing instead of telling. Accurate and trustworthy analysis of comedy done using comedy as medium. As such Ít is also example of unexpected behavior in comedy.

I remember watched this video when i was kid. thought it was the ‘ordinary’ mr.bean. Turns out it much more than that😂
Samaa, dulu nonton gk paham apa2, sekarang udah gede udah bisa paham isinya.
Hes my second favourite comedian 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.
Rowan thanks for this video. Interesting and entertaining. Rowan was GREAT at the England Olympic Ending Extravaganza a few years ago.

This is absolute brilliance. Watched it a few times, lead me on to further physical comedians from way back when. Nothing better
3:00 it's always a delight seeing Hugh Laurie
His piano bit at the Olympics was so wonderful and so very British I loved it
very good thing to watch... im lucky ive watched this right before writing a comedy script...
30:04 that Benny hill clip still makes me laugh. This is a familiar document. It was also aired on Finnish television and still have it at Vhs somewhere.
Am I wrong or is the scene at 12:52 cut? If I remember it correctly the guy in this scene doesn't stop punching the other one with the frying pan and the situation changes from pretty brutal to hilariously funny because it's so over the top.
Rowan Atkinson king of physical comedy
You can watch one in nerdwriter. The title is Mr.Bean though
@@men_del12 came here aftr watching tht
Yes
catch my new naturetrphic video lor
What about Charlie Chaplin? He too did comedy without uttering a word.
Well it's everything about the acting that there is, if we're not talking about the dialogues and the script. I mean if you could follow just this one documentary, you just need a cameraman, production manager and a script writer of course....... and wallah you can make your own little move.
This is called a masterpiece 👏
Carl Segan from COSMOS - the very first scene
Amazing visual comedy !!
The nod to Benny Hill was nice too
In the style of old 70s-80s Open University lectures shown on night-time television
This is so great, Rowan really does know great comedy!
I remember renting this on VHS back in 2004. The VHS looked like no one had ever seen it before so I was quite glad to find it was more well known than I thought
This man made my childwood from Algeria ❤🇩🇿
Wait, am I supposed to laugh at this or take notes?
Somehow I think the two actions don't go hand in hand
You're supposed to note this and take laughs.
I think you're supposed to take this and note laughs.
Youre meant to take notes and MAKE laughs, people.
**turns into a tiny banana**
I do believe that, 😂 the true act of comedy is to except our existence and laugh because no matter how terrifying it could be true.
@@DocRunaway If you have been laughing in the past, yes. If new to it, no.
This is, basically a guide on how to become Mr Bean. This is the comedy technique often used by him
If i watch this more than 20 times, I'm certain the subtitles will enhance viewing this piece of splendid education.
Was nearly crying at the chair scenes 😂
Excellent teaching on comedy. RA is superb. Knowledgeable, aware & an extradinary performer. Glad its being used to teach others.
That jumpsuit he was in was certainly revealing...
It's like taking comedy serious.
I'm certain he does.
Rowan Atkinson king of physical comedy
It's dead serious work and sometimes costly, as Robin Williams found out.
The mechanics of visual humour
Brilliant! Thanks a tonne!!
I must share this! Excellent.
They say 'if you gotta explain your joke it aint funny' Well this is the exception to the rule ...
Very grateful that this entire presentation is here. Usually it’s been cut up because of Bots but the entire performance is here for us to enjoy. Please upload again if it gets caught.
I didn't see the "stay puff" on the giant Michelin monster before today... Now it gets increasingly funnier in my head!
I loved this vid, it was great!
This was so delightful and truly educational. 🔥🎬🔥
Much more fascinating explanation than reading from a book.
Im crying Brilliant. Thank You
12:56 I show the joke coming and yet Rowan still made kill myself laught. Brilliantly done and great doc.
I feel that the minions were inspired by Kevin and his banana.
6:13 so thats where they found the idea
One day another comedian shall talk about a documentary about comedy and Rowan Atkinson shall be there as the man who made funny through strategic use of the different elements of comedy.
I haven't seen that in decades. Brilliant.

If it’s anything I’ve learned from this documentary, it’s that size really does matter.
utterly fantastic!
Waaaaaaaiiiiit fooooooor meeeeeee!!!!!😂😂😂😂
Gold nuggets Ahead!
Truly interesting and educational!
if had to send to space a documentary about comedy so that aliens might pick it up someday, needn't say, it 'd be this!!!
Just seeing Mr.Beans balls made me laugh 1:54
Thoroughly enjoyed this.
Hello, Can anyone tell me where can I watch the rest of the episodes please?
I’ll remember this when I’m writing comedy
I'll remember it when I'm getting a haircut.
Ive been searching for this for decades
This is a different edit to the doc I saw in 1993 whilst living in America. For instance you saw Rowan wearing an even smaller grey suit before the 4:05 mark. That version had clips from the Steve Martin Film 'The Jerk' and where Rowan pretends to fly on the ironing board, the music was different and faster and more dynamic. But really it's the same film all round.

to put it politely, national f***ing treasure.
I had this on VHS back in the day, anyone know what the choir are singing in the intro at 0:23? It sounds like something in latin.🤔
Imagine if Rowan Atkinson paired up with Leslie Nielsen.
Interesting. Both of them are/were geniuses, both at verbal AND physical comedy.
glad that this masterpiece is archived
We love Rowan Atkinson in Bolivia 🇧🇴🇧🇴. He has the same quality as Charles Chaplin in his movies, they both speak a universal language of physical comedy. 💕💕💕
I think people still laugh at Chapin. He was truly funny without crude language and lewd behavior.
I agree! I used his Modern Times in a world History class trying to explain the darker side of industrialisation! I broke up my footage into two parts, getting my class to concentrate first on a scene of accelerated conveyor belts, and the second on....you'll get what I mean!
it's not as if, though, there wasn't comedy with crude language and lewd behavior before Chaplin's time, Aristophanes comedies are infested with that kind of comedy. talking about key elements here.
@@millybuxx3650 There has always been crude comments in very generation but in the past it was the exception not the rule.
A persiflage of "Why beauty matters" with Roger Scruton.
i still need a bloody track ID of that techno tune around the 40 min mark !!! HEEELPH
Really great!!
Smugness killed me
Such an interesting documentary
Just woke up with this playing. Didn't even know this documentary existed and apparently there's six 50 minute parts! I think one is enough tbh as it's a bit dry but with Rowan Atkinson's narration and acting out the skits makes it watchable and funny enough. I'm sure if they put Rowan Atkinson in the title it'd have twice as many views

Best Dutch language lesson ever
damn l never thought l was going to see Mr Bean junk ever
I've known pretty much all of this already from Schopenhauer and Henri Bergson. Or the principles and essentials. And they could only work with literature. Quite interesting. (I actually have become too dumb to give convincing, eloquent proof of it at the moment, but clearly contrasts and contradiction, e.g. between levels of "sophistication" of elements, or understatement, overstatement, are central to comedy, as well as making a human seem more mechanical, which was just mentioned before I decided to write this.)
Had this on VHS. Didnt remember the title but I thought it was a Mr. Bean episode, since it had some Bean's episodes. The assassination part got stuck in my head, so I searched for a "Mr. Bean gets shot"
Laughing matters! Very educational and very interesting to know about😂😆How to make people laugh😆😂 indeed! Laughing becomes very-very healthy physically and mentally the time when it is:
😂Natural and Genuine😂
"Self stimulated laughter" always becomes very damaging and disturbing to the health of human beings socially and personally. We all must make sure that our laughter is not disturbing any body else...!
Him knowing and showing naked gun makes me happy
Lovely as always! Rowan Atkinson ❤️
Broccoli sounded the "realest" to me heh
Cheers to this great vid
5:27 well... I was going to make a joke about Dani but I changed my mind
Any way to watch the rest of the laughing matters series?
